Odds and Ends April 2016

Odds and Ends  April 2016

Odds and Ends  April 2016 I am finally getting a chance to catch up on things. The weather is nice now so we will see what turns up. I lost one show this month due to high winds. The show was about two hours away, the problem was a big part of the trip was on turnpike and I did not want to get stuck on it.  The days I have to be at a show despite the weather are gone.  I rather be safe than sorry.

Manurba Pirates

Odds and Ends April 2016

Our very good friend Andreas Dittmann sent this photo of the Manurba Pirates. This series of semi flat figures they did in Germany. Andreas thought he had his list complete in his check list on Dom Plastic .

Odds and Ends April 2016

A collector friend of his  Malte Ristau recently discovered an old paper surprise-bag from KOHO  (another Germany toy company) with a list of all the poses on the backside and one flat pirate inside. The pirate is a MANURBA pirate. So the new “sensation” is that the MANURBA semi-flat pirates were also used by KOHO in their surprise-bags. (Surprise bags are similar to Cracker Jacks)
The three missing poses in my checklists are not figures but a canon and two ships (see attached photos and a scan from the 1968 MANURBA catalogue.

I have acquired a dew of the figures and I will try to find them and do a photo in the near future.

Marx Playset

Next up we have a photo of various the Marx Playset

Odds and Ends April 2016

First up for Odds and Ends  April 2016 is the Marx Freight Terminal playset.  I believe there were two versions one with tin litho vehicles and another with plastic vehicles. The freight terminal building shows up at shows and flea markets.  It would be a great companion for the Untouchables playset. None of the parts or figures have shown up in reissue so far.

Timmee Clowns

Odds and Ends April 2016

Here we have the Timmee clown in an original bags. To find these  figures in a original bags as the cellophane bags has a tendency to disintegrate.  I have found the interest in the clowns has died off for my customers. The mold ended up in Mexico and was run in the early 1980’s.

Flea Market Find

Odds and Ends April 2016

The figures in the above photo were purchased on two different trips to one of my regular  flea markets I go to. Two women on the left are from my most recent visit to the flea market.  The woman on the far left is two inches high and will go in my collection modern civilians. Some day I should do a post of how civilian figures have changed especially female figures. The other woman is a Britains nurse which was  part of Britains hospital sets.  There are three different  nurses and Laurie and I would pick them up in the UK. I would also look out for some of the other people  from the hospital sets.  The other two figures are from the New Ray Wild Hunting series. While I have a number of their box sets. I have never got any of the figures loose until now.  I think these figures could be converted into cowboys or even Alamo defenders. I will keep them as they are and use them as scouts.

Very interesting in the Pirates, they are very o rare poses actually, looking in some as Malaysia/Asian pirates may be base in Sandakan/other character ?.I see what appear one killing a tiger or lion, other with harpoon, two are Chinese or have Chinese/Japanese,asian typical conical hat, other has a bow ,One is either a woman or a (” mermaid”)?,one have India typical headwear and one ship is definitely Asian style. Never see such combination poses/type in a pirate set.
I had fail to get the NR hunters as I see them great for boers with minor adaptation.
The Tim mee clowns had been reissue later in Mexico too. I have a set bought two about 3 years ago. A variation set made in HK was also made and see often.Nice mint bag to be in that condition. I agree in many vehicles from Marx great to be used. I’m always looking for flat nose truck but always end too high…

As soon as I hit Powerball, I will assemble my Marx “Super Dream Set” of Freight Terminal, Untouchables, and Skyscraper!!

  3. Don Perkins says:

Andy thinks like I do: I always thought adding the Marx Freight Terminal and Marx Skyscraper to the Marx Untouchables Playset would create a Super Untouchables Dreamwish Playset.

Big fan of the New Ray products. I especially like the 1/32 horses. I’ve had good luck finding inexpensive New Ray stuff at local thrift stores. Check out it out!

The New Ray hunters and fishermen make excellent modern US militia when Kim Jon Un and his North Koreans invade the US.

I agree with New Ray western sets also being of good quality. The farmhouse, windmill, rodeo sets, stagecoaches, and even the Amish sets all add to any western-themed set up.

  6. Erwin says:

New ray hunters rodeo, amish and farm are 60mm or taller.Same on building and wagons x those sets too.

    • Andy says:

Thanks Erwin. Although I’m not that exacting on scale, I recall that they were kind of big compared to 54mm Marx, Airfix, etc.. Have to take another look at bull rider rodeo set.

  7. Erwin says:

    Your welcome.
They stoll match w Marx 60 mm long line 60 mm western and other.
Jack, yes they could be great x many .Red Down type scene will be great .Good point.
Last film version in my opinion was a trash as most today remake.
    I love the original.
Also there one australian verssion done in
2006 that was intersting and left for a second part not yet done.
In it they portraid as N.Korean and Chinese invassion after a cup and take over of half US,but action developed in Australia and some young rebels.

  8. Jack Gibbons says:

The New Ray figures are larger, but don’t appear to have the “girth” that would make them too big.

Erwin, as to “Red Dawn” the first version is a guilty indulgence as a classic that I always have to stop and watch when flipping cable channels. The remake, like most, was bad. They even bowed to Chinese pressure to switch the invaders to North Koreans, and had to redo most of the enemy scenes.

As to the New Ray bowhunters I have a friend who has modified one to wearing a cowboy hat and brandishing a pony tail – and presto, you have a Ted Nugent figure leading the Michigan militia!
