Next Pvblivs Figure Set

As you can see our very good friend  Mathias has sent us a photo of the next Pvblivs  figure set.  The set is Battle of Peipus Lake. The set has six different figures.  According to Wikipedia “In 1242, the southern part of Lake Peipus hosted a major historical battle where Teutonic Knights were defeated by the Russian troops from Novgorod led by Alexander Nevsky. The battle is remarkable in that it was mostly fought on the frozen surface of the lake and is therefore called the Battle on the Ice.[19][

Interesting back to 2D pose/mold casting!?As first sets and for the first time they mix two armies/nations in one set.

    • Hello Erwin,
not the first time. The two first sets of the Peipus lake battle were in white and red too… as the three sets of the Grunwald battle.
      Best from France.

Thank you Mathias. I forgot about those sets as mix armies. I skip them so far; sometimes I confuse/mix the two different Russian resent brand making limited run sets in my mind.
Do you know if they going to do any horse mounted figures for same battles as Knight used in the time at both battles and had not been done or they will continue with foot knights and men at arms still!?.
        Best
        Erwin

    Nice sculpts!
If I collected knights, I’d be in 100%

Fun movie made about that battle by Sergei Eisenstein I watched during a course in Russian History. I found the film interesting in that it was made in 1938 and the Teutonic Knights reminded me a lot of another bunch of Germans that were on the move at the time – not to mention a stern warning from the guy playing Nevsky to anyone who would dare invade Mother Russia. But, of course, at the time Uncle Joe was buddies with Uncle Adolf so it was probably just a coincidence. Some interesting figures, made more interesting to me because they remind me of that movie.

I had seen the movie and like it too.In fact that movie as wrongly portrait as the true battle was fought mostly by Latvian/Lithuanian and Danish allied and few hundred German Teutonic knights//sargents.But as the movie was done in a time of political tumoil,it was as any soviet film political motivated; specially with infantryman wearing German infantryman pre ww2 helmets. A very realistic part I should say in the movie is the Russian rider messenger who come so fast and the horse slip/slide in the ice-was in fact real;(back in that time hoses were kill in movies like we kill fly).In that film more than 20 were kill. After seen the interview done later to Russian filmmaker about that scene the director said he kept it as was very real.

Oh yes, the contemporary politics were not lost on me watching the film. We also watched Eisenstein’s “Ivan the Terrible” (Part I). The actor who played Nevsky also played (and over-acted the part of Ivan – the faked death scene had us in stitches, still enjoyed the film). I understand Stalin loved that film because it portrayed Ivan as an enemy to the boyars – putting Ivan in the image of a hero of the proletariat against the evil nobility (who represented the bourgeoisie). Eisenstein fell out of favor with the second installment though because it represents the period where Ivan earned his title of “the Terrible.” Maybe it hit too close to home for Joe? The second part wasn’t released until after Stalin’s – and Eisenstein’s deaths.

Wayne, yes I agree with you on those two movie as well. Russian acting is unquestionable very good specially if like true classic theater portrait. Directors and Eisenstein and S.B. were the best they had so far.
I’m wondering. Even I know the horse figures are more difficult to know now, if this company is planning to do knight on horses. Sample this battle was fought by mounted troops as well infantry, many other knights sets need to be represented in same way.
The flat(1D) soviet era figures of same era and battle were depicted in both types/mounted and infantry, the same on the revolutions sets still recast and sold at eBay and by same seller of these figures too.
I know is a limited production run and will probably make the figures more priced but will made a nice addition to. I think!!
