Dollar Tree Mounted Knights

Dollar Tree Stores where no item is over $1.00 recently started to offer four mounted knights. The figures are sold separately. The poses are with sword, with mace and two different with lance. The figures are 54mm. The horses are not bad, but they could have had more armor. Only one of the figures did not stand up right. These additions to the dollar store market are a welcome relief after seeing tons poorly made police, firemen and western figures. We can only hope Dollar Tree does more figures like this.

    Paul,
The figures are rather nice. They are not 60mm but good ol’ 54 mm and fit with any of the marx, etc stuff. The knight figure is rubbery SP while the horse is HP and hollow (two halves sealed). While the ball of the “morningstar” wielder is oversized, and the lances undersized, the rest is pretty good. The detail of the figures is clear and historically correct and the proportion good. The box has photos that indicate there are foot figures. The horses are somewhat undersized, but no surprise there.
Also, I wanted to say that, here in FL, Dollar Tree had them, which I find remarkable. Seems in THIS market, toy figures are not popular so I expected they’d only be up there in the north like PA, ect. And; they had all four. That was in Orlando I found them. Not far from a US Toy store which is one of few in the nation. A big store and they have a few figures. Maybe I can get some of their gothic-looking Crusaders (all in standing positions) and take a photo for your site, but the co. has an internet site anyone can find that has photos of their “own” few sets of figures including Romans and “vikings”. The sets of 10 figures (5 dif?) are not terrible but I didn’t buy any. But I like seeing them. Also of note is the chain “Hobby Lobby” which carries BMC, Imex and Armies in Plastic which is nice. Sort of like a “Michael’s” with all sorts of art/craft stuff – and models! It is good to know that, even here in FL, kids can get toy soldiers.

      Hi Don
I have to correct that size. I was surprised on the figures as well. I have an overdue article on US Toys figures. The figures are not exicting but they give you some different poses. I have a US Toy Store about 30 miles away which I did after getting some sports figures for a person in Europe. I have pictures of the Crusaders and will put them and other pictures up tonight. Glad to hear about Hobby Lobby. We do not have one in my area.

Paul, I didn’t have any problem getting mine to stand up. Also, Dollar Tree has some giant bugs hanging near the knights that make great replacements for Horrible Hamilton. Especially the lady bug and grasshopper.

I love the Horrible Hamilton, but never got any of them. A friend told me a story of having one as a child. He was behind the sofa where his baby sitter was on and let one of the bugs come out. When she saw it she screamed and and smashed it to pieces. You see the figures but never the bugs.

One more word about the knights as pictured:
I was going to say that mine were painted exactly as those you show, but that is not quite true; there was one small exception.
    Two things – no, three – kept me from getting the two jousting figures;
    1. I’m cheap (and at a dollar store!)
    2. The lances were short
    3. Your photo shows part of the horse cape painted yellow. The ones here were PINK in that part. Now, I don’t know the historical accuracy of the dyes of the time and their popularity and use, ….but pink?
So, as you often say; “that’s the whole thing there.”

Thanks for the tip on the 4 mounted knight poses at Dollar Tree. Friday afternoon after work I rushed right down. There are two locations within 5 minutes of my home. Both locations had all 4 poses. I bought a total of 3 boxes of each of the 4 poses, which allows me to interchange riders and horses for a total of 12 different mounted knights configurations. None of my horses had any problems standing. The only negative, as one person mentioned, was the short wimpy lances. I solved that problem by replacing the cheap, short lances with the nice solid jousting lances from my Timpo Miedeval weapons pack. Now I have a nice, colorful, line of 12 mounted 1/32 scale knights that fit in perfectly with the Marx 54mm Robin Hood figures. And the sculpting of both horse and riders is pretty good. Actually, when you put the 12 figures in a line they are so colorful and well-scaled they resemble a line of Britain’s 1/32 scale Herald mounted knights. Not bad for $1.00 a piece.

I agree these knights are nice and are great addition to your knight army. The figure I selected was a exception to the rule. Great idea on changing the lances.

  5. Lynn Graves says:

Actually, the color is more mauve than pink. No offense intended.

  6. Lynn Graves says:

Paul, I didn’t have the Horrible Hamilton either. I have acquired and resold the soldiers through the years. It amazes me with the prices that this stuff goes for on Ebay. I think it is a throw back to the 1950’s monster movies. Again, check out the Dollar Tree bugs. They look great even going up against the knights.

    • admin says:

Once this crazy weather stops I will take a look at the bugs. I agree the Remco soldiers have gone up in price. If you ever see them in red they are from a Star Trek set that Remco. I have yet to see the red color. Ebay is amazing for some the crazy prices people get and the low prices good items get. I glance at some invoices from 2001 of Ebay items we sold and saw some the prices back then and thought would they go higher or lower? For myself I amazed on the items I sell. It may be item I pick in a lot and it sells before the good items.

      • Lynn Graves says:

Well, I actually meant the bugs and the prices they go for. Someone keeps listing a complete boxed set on Ebay for $1,500.

        • admin says:

          Lynn
That price is ridiculous. Ebay has a number of items with silly prices. The question do they sell? Just because someone has that price on an item. does not mean it will sell. Usually when I see that price I LOL. If someone buys one of these high price item it means broke the rule of knowledge in collecting. That means you research first before making a purchase like that.

  7. Lynn Graves says:

You are correct. He is yet to sell it I noticed.

  8. Don Ducote says:

Lynn; The color is pink. Mauve refers to a lavender, or bluish-purple pastel.
This paint color is well into the red side of what might be perceived by slightly color-deficient-sighted individuals or badly adjusted video monitors as in the middle of the interim between blue and red.
There is also the problem of some people being mislead at some time in their lives what color a name refers to. They, in turn, mislead others who do not otherwise know.

I have dealt with color in many aspects of my life; from laboratory chemistry (colormetric analysis), theatric stage lighting, plastic coloring, photography, video component-color adjustment, RBG adjustment, and (of course) painting. I will not go into the analytical proof of a pantone number or color sphere coordinate, but people need to know the picture Paul put up depicts PINK, not mauve.

Perhaps you can do some internet research before posting a “correction”, if you feel corrections are necessary and that you are the proper authority to do so.

  9. Andy Keliar says:

Must be the same set mentioned above now re-listed on eBay for 30 days ’til 10/4/11:
Remco Hamilton’s Invaders playset MIB monster spider 64
Item number: 260847710553 US $1,350.00 Buy It Now
I’m just not sure of exact colors?

Seriously, what’s a realistic price on this one??

    • admin says:

      Andy
It is a hard thing to say what is a fair price. For me $1350.00 is too high, for someone who has been looking for a box set of Hamilton Invaders it might be a fair price. If I had a set similar to sell, it would depend on what I had into it I would sell it for $500 to $700.00. I usually pass on these items due to the higher risk. At flea market we did today; a party had Mego Star Trek walkie talkies in the box for $150.00. I pass on them. I also passed on some light blue Cape Carnaveral figure and Baseball tv camera man for $15.00. Both these item would have been for resale so I pass. When I am buying for myself it depends how much the figure interests to what I will pay.

  10. Whit Knight says:

Justa quick note, those “Dollar Tree” knights are distributed by Greenbriar International, Chesapeake, VA. They are nice figures. I’ve posted some photos of one of them on my Profile page on Facebook. Thanks for your time!
