Mars Figure Upcoming Releases

mars-modruss4Mars Figures  just when we thought there would be any more new figure news for 2015.  Our very good friend Denitz from Russia has photos of  two new figure sets from this company. Mars is from the Ukraine and is known for their  1/72 scale figures. There had been rumors of Mars Figures going into 1/32 scale figures. As you can see from the photos of the test shots, the rumors are true. Prior to this Mars Figure has done four  1/32 scale Taliban figures, but they have been without opponents for years.

The first set Mars Figures is doing is Russian soldiers in Afghanistan. The Soviet-Afghan War  was from 1979 to 1989. The war lead to fall of Communist Russia.  For Russia it was their Vietnam war.  The their invasion lead to an ongoing war instead of a quick victory.  Frustrated that the war was not going the way they thought it would go and finally after years of frustration the  Russia left Afghanistan.

The Russians in Afghanistan  set has six different poses: Russian soldier kneeling firing sniper  rifle, Russian soldier kneeling missile launcher, Russian soldier with automatic weapon at waist,  Russian  soldier holding  automatic weapon, Russian soldier kneeling left leg down and Russian soldier  charging with automatic weapon.

If that not enough a surprise, Mars Figures is also going to be doing Vietcong  figures.  This is a set of figures collectors have wanted for years in 1/32 scale. The Vietcong figure set has six poses: Vietcong kneeling firing missile launcher, Vietcong Standing firing rifle, Vietcong standing firing automatic rifle, Vietcong kneeling on knees firing rifle, Vietcong firing automatic weapon at waist and Vietcong throwing grenade and holding an automatic weapon.  The figures are done in various styles of dress ranging from street dress to uniform.

Denitz is hoping these figures will be available very soon. You will be able get these figures from Denitz  at his site at this link. Denitz deals in plastic and metal figures.

We would like to thank  Denitz and Mathias for help in this article.

Great, looks like Russian and Ukrainians are going ahead of US and rest producing now. Poses looks nice and perfect match with ESCI Russian and two Russian made sets done plus AIP and Russian made Taliban sets.
Vietnam era Vietcong come true way ahead of others not yet done .The uniforms looks a mix of Former US gear with Chinese supplied uniforms, well done.
Hope they come out soon and prices not as insane as others.

  2. ERWIN says:

I hope they do Americans x Vietnam soon too !!!
Even in 1.72 the war had been poor represented.
ESCI and Italeri did the first sets I guess as I’m not counting MARX using non historical figures for their small scale sets.

Another thing ,special by today demand in this small hobby is the fact that figures makers should take some consideration in the correlation of statures of figures/PERSON base in same scale used. I know some my not like it.But in my opinion and it has not been taken before I guess is the fact that generally European and north American are taller than east Asian and some many others. So for instance if same company is doing Vietcong and US marines or infantry. They should/could be done in a relative different tall size as per said a 5.8- 6 foot American/European person should be done in 56/58 mm scale figure and a 5. to 5.2′ Asian should be done in a 52/54 mm plus more skinny unless using winter clothing as Koreans and Chinese.
Back when were toy soldiers for kids and value so low it won’t be any big deal. Now that this hobby has become a privilege and prices going to sky I will recommend it for accuracy and worth the price/figure. It won’t hurt the factory at all in this minor difference.

Some sculpted better than others but overall very nice !

  5. Nice looking figures. If my memory serves me those Afgan figures they did in so called 1-32 a while back were way to small. more like a small 1-35th. I hope I’m wrong on this or they make these in a larger scale. Russia seems to be the go to now for 1-32 plastic.

  6. Tom Black says:

The VC look good although I have not seen that fisherman’s style hat on 2 of the figures in Vietnam war photos/documentaries. Now we need an American set!

  7. … having had the pleasure of interacting with some of these tough and determined fighters under less than desirable circumstances, I am very anxious to add their plastic counterparts to my plastic scenarios!

  8. Edmund Bodwell says:

I also had the pleasure (if you can call it a pleasure) having been fired at by some of those people. But I do agree that the figures look very good and I hope I can get some. Oh,yes one guy is firing an RPG ( not a missile ) “rocket propelled grenade ” I’ll always remember the sound that made.

Over the years I’ve followed Mars’ output with some interest. In the past some few of their sets have been poor and rather flat Over the yearst, they’ve done some great sets of interesting subjects in 1/72 scale, but have often been uneven in the quality of their output. One set will be beautifully sculpted and 3D but marred by a poor mold and a lot of flash another be almost perfect. But there has been, in my opinion, a steady improvement. These look to be some of their best work and I am hoping the larger scale might reduce some of the flaws like flash that marred some otherwise beautiful sets. Kind of hyped on these offerings.

I always said VIETNAM will be a super hit!

  11. Gary Binder says:

AS long as the weapons are decently sized the figures can be a bit small and look just right. They were little squirts, but cruel and very dangerous
