The Season Begins

Now with the Easter holiday out of the way the flea markets will start to begin get more dealers.  I have seen a trend of more dealers out at my midweek flea market and hope to see some interesting items show up. I did two shows last Saturday and they were disappointing no doubt due to the Easter holiday and the winds we had. I heard the Wayne Toy Show in Wayne New Jersey that was held on Easter Sunday the crowd was light but buying.

Because of past experience of the poor showing on Easter Sunday at markets, I tend to skip the markets and go out for dinner. Laurie and I found a nice place for Easter dinner  about 30 miles away.  They serve a buffet which is very good and it has many Pennsylvania Dutch foods that we like and you normal do not get at a buffet.  We do this restaurant for Easter and Mother’s Day.

This weekend I will have an indoor garage sale, then on Sunday we will do the Delaware Toy Show. We will see some dealers from the south that we normally do not see and some old faces.  We never know what we will find. After that we stop at an authentic Mexican restaurant before heading home.

      Calm down, Ed.

I mean, the whole crowd from Chicago just needs to get a grip. Just kidding, of course! As for me, I keep pushing my Detroit depart time earlier and earlier, because I’m always terrified, despite my confirmed reservations, that if I get there too late my room will be taken by someone who arrives and checks in earlier. It’s been known to happen. I want to be right in the middle of that main hall so that when I step out I’ve got dealer rooms on my right, dealer rooms on my left, and I can head in either direction. Today I finish packing my SUV, and then I’ll be all set.

May I inquire what time you, Mike, and Mr. Closman will be leaving metro-Chicago?

I presume that Stengel and Stengel, coming from NYC, will actually be leaving tomorrow. My only regret is that the Murphys from Hobby Bunker don’t also come join us in Indiana.

Oh come on Don, you’re not excited? I know you are. Besides if I calm down I won’t be able to have my mad man Ed sale. Marx 60mm Indians $5.00 each or 10 for $200.00.

    Special discount just for Don.

This Sunday kicks off the flea market season around here. I’m more than ready to go after the horrible winter we had.

Hope springs eternal as the seaon kicks off. I’ve found so much great stuff at my favorite market that I know that this is the year that I find a Johnny Ringo, the Gunsmoke Characters and Custer in a 50 cent bag of figures.

    I am sure of it.

Oh Don, by the way, I hear we are all on the second floor this year.

We are leaving no later than 10AM Friday, I would say, that should bring us there around 2PM give or take a few. Should be open for business shortly there after.

    • Don Perkins says:

I hadn’t heard about the second floor part. I’m timing my own arrival to pull into the Marriott around 10:00 AM. This will entail leaving Michigan no later than 4:00 AM, which I’m happy to do to avoid all the metro morning traffic. I’m hoping they’ll let me in early and I can be in my room by 12:00 Noon. See you all there.

Yeah there is some kind of veterans convention or something, so we got moved to the 2nd floor.
