One of the character figures that Louie Marx had done was Cardinal Francis Spellman. Cardinal Spellman was in charge of New York, but his influence expanded throughout the United States. It is very likely Louie Marx did this figure of Cardinal Spellman to curry favor with him. An interesting side note in Marx Monster prototype castle the makers use a Cardinal Spellman figure to represent a ghost.

Clear Deetail Figures

One of the items that I have acquired recently was some clear hard plastic World War Two figures. I had gotten from a party several years earlier a couple of these figures. The party who had given them to me said they were test shots. Have you seen these figures?

An Old Memory

Going through things I found that we had the original badges from the first German Plastic Show. Things I remember about the show were how strict they were about the width of the aisle. The local fire department came with a measuring stick to make sure the aisles were the correct length. The other thing I caught was a Dutch dealer who had a metal figure of a German soldier with a swastika flag. The display of Nazi regalia is forbidden. I alerted the promoter, Peter Bergner had the dealer cover the flag. The show was a lot of fun.

STUART hORSE
One of the items I look to sell for is Stuart horses. This is a very small company that made some Roy Roger figures for a cereal premium for Post then the figures sold not as Roy Rogers. They also did a rider with an accessory that could be an Indian or pioneer. I usually only find the figures and the horses but not the accessories. At the Delaware Toy show, I got a bag of Stuart with accessories. I got a rifle, an Indian headdress, and a saddle. The bridle is Marx. I put them in a lot three horses and two figures. I got an email from a person. Here it is: Will you sell the most perfect tan with red saddle and reins, I have Roy and this would give me a Trigger for my Roy. That leaves you with Roy and a tan horse as Trigger and your other rider for the cream horse. How much? $4.00 plus 3.50 shipping? Thanks for the consideration. I turned down the offer. First, I don’t like breaking up lots as I will have to spend more time rebuilding the lot than what I will get paid. Second, I did not like the price he offered. The third is postage he offered is too low. My basic postage on a small item is $5.00. Finally, I don’t like people to dictate prices. I don’t mine offers. The item sold a week later at my price.

The clear plastic american soldiers are Britains Deetail figures. Have never seen them in clear plastic before.

  2. Hi Paul. I can’t wait for the show. I will have some new Viking figures with me. I just finished working on these yesterday. I will have a few sets with me to sell at the show.

    Take Care. See you tomorrow.

I’ve always wanted to go back to Gettysburg now that I know so much more about the battle – to think of returning with a Toy Solder Show – that’s a good as San Antonio. Maybe next year.

I’ve had a similar experience on Ebay with probably the same person….asking if I can just sell a few figures from a lot with an unrealistically low shipping rate. I told him no for the same reason that Paul did. I wonder how many dealers this guy has bamboozled. I can’t ship for less than $5.75…having to pay 40 cents for the box + “give” 14% of the shipping charge to Greed-Bay for no legitimate reason. The Gettysburg Show is GREAT! I got to set up there last year for the first time and it was a nice large, well lit venue with about 90 tables. I can’t go this year, but I urge anyone who can to go…there is TONS of reasonable plastic! Mike

Mike, I get tired of this type of person. They think they are doing you a favor. The costs keep going up there. I had to raise my base price and postage rates. I figure the postage will go up again with the new rates.
I am curious on the show as it has been years since I have been there.

There bunch of low ‘ buyers-collectors and sherry pickers “out there .They want every day more for less .If you want collect ,expect to collect what you can afford ,if not pass it and move on .They think we owe them a favor and fight to buy things lower but when no successful they start crying with drama or even get tantrums .At shows it is common practice for decades but their mentality of negotiate with set price had become an annoying no sense .I either ignore ,pass or tell not .I have not time for this in my book .I personally never ask for lower prices .On eBay If a seller has an offer listing format that is different but if not why push for .Some people never grow up and don’t know what means not to them and believe we as seller are forced to bend rules for them.
In the other hand regarding from the buyers point of view on eBay we got some seller listing with offer option and all they go down is 50 cents or 1.00 USD ,that in my opinion is ridiculous ,if you list with offer lower price do something better otherwise don’t waste time buyers by not accepting any bellow 0.50-1.00 discount .
    my thoughts
    best
