Laurie reminded me

Laurie reminded me that today January 7 was the anniversary of 1996 snowstorm. That one was a dozy of a storm as we got hit with two storms back to back. It was so bad, driving was to a standstill. We both had to walk to work, which was not fun as you had go over drifts and unshoveled pavements. The one most upset was Jasmine our dog at the time as she would go to work with me.  Since I was walking she had to stay at home.

It took me a solid day to dig the cars out from their parking spots. I hired one guy to shovel the cars out. Still I had finish it up. While I was shoveling a police car pulled up.  The cop rolled down his window and advised that I could not throw the snow into the street. I replied I was throwing it to the other side of the street. The cop replied I don’t want to give anyone a ticket for snow shoveling and gave me a warning.

I went back to shoveling for another 45 minutes and another police car pulls up.  I shake my head not again, turn to see that police officer is my cousin and we talked for a few minutes on family. My cousin retired last year as captain of the local police force.

One upshot of this storm was the mayors of the city of Allentown since that storm make sure the snow is removed and clean up because the mayor  that was in power tried to save money and it backfired. The mayor at the time had to get extra trucks so they could remove the snow.

Paul, what do you mean you were throwing the snow “to the other side”? The other side of what? The other side of the street? Like, to your neighbor’s side? Just curious. Our snow and weather in Michigan are like that right now.

I corrected the posting to say other side of the street. We were living at my old house and there was only one lane instead of the two lanes of traffic. I was trying to get an opening so I could pull the cars out of the parking spot so it would gone over where other cars were parked. I need some where to put it because it was mess. Philadelphia got 31″ that day. Once I had the cars out I had arrangement to park the cars on a lot.
