August 2021 Odds Ends Greg’s Questions

August 2021 Odds Ends Castle
Greg Liska got this castle at the South Carolina Toy Show.

Gary had no idea who made it and sent out photos to various people. Erwin Sell recognized it immediately by Schleich. Erwin stated the following
It is one of the 7 variations castles of Schleich from Germany brand castles. Made for their main scale 90 mm range. Greg feels the castle can be also be used with 54mm to 60mm figures.

Andreas Dittman’s Question

August 2021 Odds Ends Figures
One of Laurie’s and mine’s very good friends Andreas Dittmann sent me the above photo. He got these figures recently. The figures are 7 to 8 CM. He wonders who made them. I have no idea who made them. The kneeling figure looks like based on the Marx GI kneeling with a rifle. The maker changed the rifle to a submachine gun. Do you know who made them?

Jay Booth is an old friend from my list days.

Jay had bought the MPC conversions I showed in March of this year. Where the owner of those figures used men of 76 bearskin hats, Jay used a miter hat. I forgot to ask where he got the miter hat, which I will ask next time I talk to him. What do you think?

Marx Indian with Paddle

 Marx 45mm Indians
Erwin saw over on a Russian Facebook page talking about the Marx 45mm Indian with the paddle. For many years we only saw the Indian with clenched hands. Occasionally the figure would show up with a stick between the two hands as in the above photo from Kent Sprecher. The answer for this stick was discovered when the Indian was reissued. A paddle was discovered.

The back story is I visited Nick Argento of Glencoe Models. I had did a trip to New England and stopped at Nick’s home. He showed me various Marx cavities he had purchased from American Plastic. We looked at 45mm Indian mold, We found that Marx had blocked the paddle off at several points. I asked Nick if he could open the spots to bring the paddle back. He said he could and did. I thank Kent for permission to use his photo from his site.

Scheleigh had several castles during many years .
The last more common are these .
Castle set 72039 that is a front wall section with towers façade and main entrance-bridge .The knights mounted are obviously base in Gondorian soldiers late period -LOTR but not clones from film as to avoid copyrights .
A thematic explored-made more by Plastoy series “fantasy’ that are rather pure copies base in LOTR with out cloning the film .

The the 72070 that is complete different with new curved walls ,new tower ,entrance and rock stones that can be attach or not .

Both had been sold with additional walls ,sections and add on tents else in other formats .Towers and walls section had been also sold to add on and increase size.
i have both castles and get extra parts and able make huge castle much realstic than most toy soldier castle done with unrealistic thin walls and too low windows .
I also used IMEX huge two castles to blend with schleich
While main scale of this maker-schleich in figures in 1/16 or 95 mm approx scale range figures. The castles and medieval siege machines are made actually rather in smaller not much compatible scale versus figures and yet very good for 1/32 or actually rather for 1/32 .The PVC material used is very heavy in these castles .
Also siege machines by Schleich ,Papo and Plastoy as well BBI-BLUE BOX from same scale range medieval figures sets are good with 1/32 -/1/25 scale.
    best

I got that castle in pieces mixed with a bunch of other things like a bat cave (Fischer Price, I think) and some other pieces I have yet to ID. the seller had this pile and was asking $10 for the load. I wasn’t particularly interested. When the show ended, he didn’t want to pile it all back into his boxes and gave me the stuff. After playing around a while I figured some things out and put together the castle and the incomplete bat cave. So, in summary, all it cost me was some time. the few pieces missing are easily fabricated. I’m not particularly attached to it.

    • ERWIN SELL says:

You got a hell of deal there ,not single seller who will know Scheleigh brand will ever give that x that price .No idea in other pieces .FP are often mark in all pieces but could be ,could be another cheap maker also .
There some less known Chinese maker doing some good accessories out there since 90s on their own ,some are new not base in any other .

  5. ERWIN SELL says:

I do like the miter hats made in MPC figures ,well done .The not knowns figures remain me of some cereal or Australians made figures ,also there some Italian made alike too. I need check in my bibliography ..

  6. Markus says:

Think the conversion hats are from the Hat seven years war Prussians.

Almost sure Erwin had the British Grenadier
    http://cerealoffers.com/Kelloggs/Variations/Puffa_Puffa_Rice/Warriors_Through_The_Ages/warriors_through_the_ages.html
    in mind
for a long time the only one around with the Jean Prussian Grenadier
    http://www.fuhrmann-figuren-shop.de/JH-NAPF-01-Preussen-Gardeulan
and the Russian counter (french) revolution fighter by JIM.

  7. Wayne W says:

Markus, you are right. I didn’t make the connection because the MPC figures have been around so long and the HaT figures are relatively recent; but I have a slew of those helmets myself waiting for a use. Great catch!
