Gary Dutko’s Fire Diaster

Just received this from Gary Dutko
Sorry to use this forum/email but I did not know how to contact you.  Sad news from Gettysburg.   We had a house fire on May 17th.  Monica and I were not in the house at the time but we are both fine and coping with the disaster.  The computer room and downstairs bathroom were totally destroyed by the fire and the rest of the house sustained heavy smoke damage.  The actual structure is fine but the entire interior must be gutted to the studs.  We lost everything but the clothes on our back.  Fortunately, all my ebay conversion figures and building were in my work shop (an outbuilding) and were not affected by the fire.  However, my new computer, printer, and all my customer email addresses were lost in the fire including all my ebay records.  I am using my old computer which was in the shop but now at the temporary residence since we had to cut off the power to the old house and workshop.  I had to cancel all 900 plus ebay auctions as we are now living in a temporary townhouse for next 5-6 months until the interior of the house is rebuilt.  Therefore, I do not have the ability to do ebay or even make conversions until things get back to normal.  Hopefully you can post this message on your website to let fellow collector know what happened.  But the good news is I am still ALIVE!  Thanks, Gary

Terrible news! Anyone who has ever dealt with knows that Gary is a good and helpful guy. Glad neither he nor family were injured. Prayers for a quick restoration.

As I stated on Facebook, all my experiences with Gary have been pleasant. I particularly enjoyed the time or two I got to talk to him in Texas. He is another of the many nice guys in the hobby. I wish him the best.

Okay, try number three. My war with technology continues. At this point, I’ll just say good luck Gary, glad no one was hurt.

I will be praying for you and your wife.

Gary is a great guy. I have many of his Conte German conversions. I hope everything gets back to normal as soon as possible, Gary! Glad you are all safe and your collection was spared.

I spoke with Gary today and he’s in good spirits considering his disaster! He’s hired a contractor and hopefully interior demo of his home will begin soon! They have to take it down to the studs! He’s staying busy volunteering painting for neighbors and taking a well deserved break from conversions and eBay! He should be back amongst us in 5-6 months.
