Collection Time

Comansi pioneer
I was going to say Comansi for this figure. I checked
Google and found I was wrong. ( I get a kick out of how many photos they show. I will let someone telling who made him.
Merten cowboy
This figure I know is by Merten. I first discovered Merten as a child at a shop called Tepee Town in the New York Port Authority. Over the years I have found others from Mertens and aboard. I can’t wait for the flea markets to open again.

I guess the steel vests are throwing everyone off with the new Soviets? The vests had been introduced after WWI. Germany had them in 1916 where they were used for sentry duty. They were found impractical and unpopular due to their weight. I don’t know of any instance or picture that shows Soviet soldiers using these items. I suppose it’s possible, but not likely. The reduction in speed, mobility and endurance for such limited protection was considered not worth the trade-off by Germany and the Soviet Union wasn’t particularly concerned with individual protection. The average Soviet man even considered wearing a helmet as unmanly and required ‘urging’ by officers to encourage their use. You can see by so many war time pics they were only partially successful.
