MPC Horses

Over the years I have acquired some lots where I have to stop and thing why? Case in point  is the above lot. The source had a  lot of horses. While the lot had Marx and Stuart horses, it had 30 MPC horses!  When you get a quantity of one item, you wonder how this came about. Was it from a several purchases  by the source or one person? What happen the rest of the MPC pieces? We will never know.

That’s funny, I have a few of those MPC horses in my junk box that I take with me to every show, no one ever wants to buy one. Come to think of it, has any one ever bought one on purpose? I don’t think I have ever heard anyone say, dang I just got to have some of those MPC horses.

The MPC horses are something that will not normally sell at show. As mention on the internet who knows. I have put the bag up and will see if they sell.

I too have the MPC horses in my collection. The “western” hollow body horses I got when I bought a playset called “Westward Ho” at a thrift shop. It also had cardboard cut outs of scenery and figures. The solid body horses that I have, I probably got from a thrift store or yard sale. I did however deliberately buy them! In my opinion they are some of the better pieces that MPC produced and are on a par with their wild animals and dinosaurs.

As far as getting a “herd” of horses, I bought a lot of Marx 60mm bareback horses from an antique dealer. There were about 25 figures and included the stopping, standing, running poses as well as both “Ben Hur” horses. Only one of them was damaged, missing tail, and they cost me $20 as the dealer was fazing out his toy collecting. Who knows where the dealer got them. He could have bought themas a lot or put them together over time as they all are similar. A good find for me though!

      Hi Larry T
I have nothing against these horses, it just amazed me that there were so many in one place. As I have said before what I sell now on Ebay and what use to sell on the list are two complete different worlds. Items I would have pass on are now selling.
      They are nice horses.

Yeah if I could predict what sells at shows I’d make a lot more money. I’ve just about completed the cleaning of the Matt’s and Chester’s, I’m going to bring them to Indy and see what kind of noise I can make. I worte the Marx Museum to try and see what they knew, but no answer. I also contacted the seller and he doens’t have any more figures.
