Rick Mellon’s Figure Questions Marx

Rick had a question on a Marx Civil War figure. He had some other questions .

Hope this the right place.I have a question about a figure for years ago I bought a group of Heritage Union figures. One was the mounted pose with a kepi hat BUT instead of being made looking straight ahead with the sword straight above his head THIS one was turned sort of sideways (twisted at the waist) and the sword was chopping downward. The only time I ever saw or came across except I saw a picture of the same pose but in 3″ I think … he was in a set with a shooting cannon and a limber I think … for some reason I think Renwal cannon and it’s figure was in the same book … anyway I’ve looked through old PFPC and I can’t find the picture and of course I no longer have the 54 mm figure … Any idea what I might be remembering and any info is appreciated … Magazine name and number if it rings a bell …

Rick Mellon’s Figure Questions Another Question

Just one more thing, do you remember the magazine Toy Soldiers and Collectibles. I think Larry Riggles put it out … I have #1 through #13 … was there more than 13 and if so how many … of course if there were wonder how to get them …

Sounds like a conversion to me? I’ve often thought about doing something like that with hot water and some recasts/reissues.

I like the excavation toys in action video .
The viking fest looks awesome.A lot fire ,hope firefighter nears just in case .the nice depiction viking looks great .Pictures are AWESOME!!! .
thank you much for posting both.
Marx ACW i have a confederate original pose firing from my dad i kept.the pose apparently was removed from mold else too early and he is literally firing down with bend in waist 35% or more .will do photo soon.
The figure in question looks a conversion or else .but without any photo not much could be done other than assume or specutale i guess.
    Best

  3. Adam says:

Could the marx ACW mounted figure be the result of heating with hot water and twisting the figure at the waste and shoulder? I did Lot of conversions with that figure and there was a lot of give.

  4. Eddie White says:

Larry Riggles magazines stopped after about 13 issues. One of the best early magazines as it was one of the initial ones to show color photos and of new and reissue figures.

  5. Gary McManus says:

I have read that on very rare occasions, when figures came out of the mold(s) some could still be warm enough that if “bumped” could be turned, bent, etc. If I remember correctly, the figure should have been spotted by someone doing “quality control”, in addition to a myriad other duties, and removed for the plastic to go back into the tub for remolding. This would be especially true if all the other figure’s details are otherwise the same and intact.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

      In my opinion.
There not such thing as true quality control in mass production.
Mold machinery often need quality constant cleaning that if not done properly or with right tooling and chemical add to molds releasing some defective figures.
Cooling processing often was accelerated by using fans that either cool too early or late the figures.
Figures often pile one over others still in not cool state adding to issue.

You can often find in a playset several same figures pose w short swords, weapons else from same mold .
      best.
