Plastic Figure Showcase Part One November 2018 Swoppets

Plastic Figure Showcase Part One November 2018 Swoppets is what will look at this time. First  we will look at Cherilea and their swoppets. Next Mike Pedergast gave me some Hong Kong swoppets at East Coast show.  If we have room we will look at some other things.

My first experience with Cherilea Swoppets was when I found them at Kaybee Toy Store in my local mall. The store had gotten them as a closeout.  I bought a few of them but was not impressed. Over years I have been offered  Cherilea swoppets many times in boxes. I have bought a few boxes but they have been a slow seller  except the knights . I now pass on the Cherilea figures.

This was a surprise I got a Plastic Warrior Show. I liked the pose and found out later that it was a later Cherilea.  This was the first time I had seen this figure and also German soldier.  Many of the foreign figures that I have sold or in the collection have come from being at show in Europe.  We will see if I find any more in the future.

Mike Pendergast gave me at the East Coast Toy Soldier Show some westn figure swoppets from Hong Kong.  Here we have a card of cowboys.

As you can see the cowboys are based the Britains swoppet cowboys. To get a different  color for the hats they were done separate as you see are easily to get lost.

The Indians look like they are based on Timpo Indians.

Finally I got some mounted figures to add to the collection.

Occasionally as I am working on photographing  figures I will have some putting figures together in a scene for myself. Here is one of the Plan Napoleon and Lido cadet saluting.

I have a counter box full of mounted Cherilea banditos. I don’t think I ever lookd at them since they arrived from eBay back in the early 2000s. They are just too big, disproportionate and downright ugly.

I had tons of those Hong Kong swoppet knockoffs with the rubber torsos. I think the only kind of figures I had more of were MPC cowboys and Indians. At the time, I kind of thought of them as ‘poor kid’ toys compared to my smaller but highly treasured Timpo collection, but now I miss them.. Not only was it hard to keep the cowboy hats, but the Indian feathers were only attached by about a micro-millimeter of plastic and would constantly snap off, leaving only the colored peg holding on the Indian’s hair. My tribe looked like they were all wearing yarmulkes.

In scale 70/75 mm are my range as I collect then too. But is true cherilea swappet are most odd pose s in my like too.
The mexican only attraction is they made then w ponchos a nice characteristics that made unique.
Still ugly or not they have space in my collection as vintage curiosities. But not many of then
I find many HK variations better than TIMPO as they offen have more swapped parts and true swappets.yet some late production are bad.
      Best
