York Toy Show 2012

Today Laurie and I did the last major toy show for the year. (I will have one more minor toy show in two weeks here in Allentown.) The showwe did today is held in York, Pennsylvania at their fairgrounds.  It is a nice two hour ride from our place.

We got started a little later than I wanted as the boys over slept the time I wanted to get up.  Before I can leave I have to walk the dogs which can be fun. This morning Percy flushed out the corner bunny from the bushes while at the same time Quinn saw a cat laying on the side of the road.  The cat was not hurt, he must been trying catch the warnth of the street.  He saw Quinn arched his back and realize that there were two more dogs and split.

We got started  and after a stop for some orange juice we arrived at the show about 15 minutes after it opened. We went in to the show after having some sandwiches. The show has two rooms. We usually do the room to the left as it has less friends who we will talk to besides buy.  The first stand I walked up to had some of the Roy Rogers ranch kids in reissue. One thing that can be annoying is no prices worse the dealer had to pull out the figures out of a plastic box and count the figures. I figured that he would give a price for the lot instead he tells me they are $7.00 each! I blew up and said they are reissues  and worth only $.50 each and walked away.

We saw a new friend Wil, who is a new dealer. We looked at his figures, but I did not see anything I needed. I also stopped at Kerry from Maryland and found two Atlantic 1/72 Scale Siege Towers. David Conrad we got a Timpo Sears Set called Frontier Blazers which may have interest in Europe and some loose figures. One thing I like at this show people will have a table where everything is a set price.  At one of these tables Laurie found several cartoon character glasses for her collection and the Sinclair Dinosaur Book to go with her Sinclair dinosaurs. We did the rest of the hall finding nothing else so we took the packages out to the car and got ready to do next room.

We went into the other room and started to walk around. We found  a 7 inch Reliable Indian from Canada. I have had from this company their Mounties, but this is the first time I have had the Indian. In fact I did not know they did an Indian until got one today.  I also found  some loose figures and a bag of Marx Fairykins.  From our good friend Rich Kozlowski I got a pot dot box with eighteen of the railroad peopele. Sadly someone painted them. I also found some Atlantic 1/32 scale military and Giant HO Civil War.

As I mention early the fun of the show is seeing friends.  We saw Harry Davis who had a nice selection of playsets. We saw Dean Klein who had been in the Liptor commercials and got from him the HO guardsmen on the card.  I had Rich Kozlowski tell Lauriethe story of the shoes he had sold to a person. The shoes were from an Italian company that some person had bought during a wild weekend in New York. From another person whose name I forget we stopped and  talked for a bit. I found out he had a cancerous tumor removed from his shoulder like mine and we compared scars. He asked me about some metal civil war figures that person got I felt that they might be Bussler a old company, but not having a picture we could not be sure. We stopped at our good friend Chris who was pleased with his day. He had a very good sale at the start of the show and you could see the glow. His young son was helping out bagging two purchases of bagged Legos. Our very good friend Gerry Watts was having a very good selling day as well selling all kinds of items from some loose action figures to wooden castles. Gerry’s forte is plastic and lead figures and I was able to get a nice lot of various figures for resale.

After spending some time with Gerry we headed out and stopped at Bob Evans for lunch as we no longer have one in our area.  I always remember my father saying when you go out to a show stop and have a good meal.  From there we headed home.  The show was very satisifying, but the quality has gone down. Items that were plentiful are now few and far between.  We will go back as it is a relaxing show and still fun.
