Odds and Ends

First off I would like to wish you all a Happy and safe Thanksgiving. I will watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in the morning and then Laurie and I will go out for our Thanksgiving dinner. Since it is just Laurie and myself, we decide it would be easier for us  instead of going through the hassle of making the food. The next day we will avoid the silliness of the BlackFriday sales. Laurie was in retail  for a number of years and grew to hate that day.  In fact we did some shopping today and the place was nearly empty.  Sunday we will do York Toy Show.

I did a flea market today and had an interesting situation. On one table was a lot of Ideal Stagecoach wheels and horses. Also on the table was the Payton rifle and accessories for their Peco Army copies. I don’t know how many times I have found the figures  with no accessories, this was the first time of finding the accessories no figures.

Askimet which protects this site from spam has blocked over 28,000 pieces of spam.  I have gotten to the point that I just delete the spam and do not  look at any of the listings.  Askimet is one program I would reccomend to anyone doing a word blog.

Hake’s  had two interesting items up for sale in their last auction. They had preliminary art work for the Marx Commanchee Pass and the Prehistoric mountain. The Commanchee Pass preliminary shows a fort  with the lost Dutchman mine in the base. The prehistoric Mountain was to be a volcano. Both of these designs were rejected.  Neither of these designs sold in the auction and are available for sale on the Hake’s website at $230.00 each. If you like to see the designs go to www.hakes.com go to their sale list under playsets.  there numbers are 1575 and 1576.

If you look at the Commanchee pass artwork , I believe the figure silhouettes are of MPC , and Tim Mee . Reminds me when Marx showed the prototype of their hunted castle set never made using the MPC monster figures .

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I ended up getting some of those Hobbit figures. So figured I would let any that might be interested in them know my opinion on them. They are basically 3.75 inch overall. Thorin is 3.5″ ( he is one of the taller Dwarves BTW, so a couple are smaller than him). A 54mm figure comes up to the bottom of his chest. I was very impressed by the quality of these figures.

Bilbo in particular, which is approximately 2.75″ high. I did not really want Bilbo (originally before buying these figures), but after checking him out, and posing him, in numerous different poses, he is definitely one of my favorite out of all of them now. He kind of reminds me of an Oliver Twist or Tom Sawyer character.

He comes with a neat little outfit that you can actually remove his coat, and little vest. He also comes with an oversized little travelers bag, and dual (bottles, canteens) that you can take off. He also comes with a sword (Sting). He has excellent articulation, and is highly detailed, and painted superbly.

I will not give reviews on the others now, in case people are not interested in these figures. Bilbo, would fit in a lot of collections, even 54mm. Although he would fit better in 70mm collections. So if you would like an Oliver Twist figure, or even a Tom Sawyer figure (all you need is a little raft). He would make a great figure for those characters. I believe you can buy the single pack of him, so you would not have to buy a bunch of figures you may not want. Anyway they are very nice figures.
