  7. Wayne W says:

Two of the nicest people in the hobby. I just hope they make it to Texas this year – it would be great to see them, but his health hasn’t been the same since he got hit with Legionaire’s Disease out there some years back.

  11. Nick Stern says:

Sorry to hear this. It was always a pleasure doing business with them. I had hoped to visit them one day – it’s only a day’s drive from where I live to San Diego. I hope they find someone to take over the business. I wonder what a business like that is worth?

  12. Dick Wood says:

So sorry to hear this news. Nick and Deanna’s contribution to the hobby has far exceeded their toy soldier production. Really lovely people. Always such a pleasure to spend time with them and to talk with them. I hope we will continue to have the privilege of seeing them at shows and being able to sit down with them and talk about our lives.

  13. George Albany says:

Terribly sorry to hear that Nick’s health has forced him to sell the business. I was an off and on customer, but always got personal and great service. The few conversations we had were most enjoyable. Overall, I got the impression that he loved what he was doing. I hope he can keep a hand in the business one way or another, there are fewer and fewer of us involved in the toy soldier business (collecting, making, converting, selling, etc.). Here’s to a great run, Nick and good luck. Take care of yourself.

  14. Mike Kutnick says:

TSSD will be at The Texas Show.

  15. Peter Evan says:

My best wishes to themeet at this time

  16. Tom Kontos says:

Nick and Deanna are great and gracious people. Best wishes to them!

In the Hobby Bunker Forum Matt stated that he and others are in discussion with them.

I have great memories of OTSN – 3 rooms right off the 5th floor lobby – Stone Castle Imports, Barzso Playsets, and TSSD. My arms/bags would be filled with stuff – and I still had Excalibur Hobbies to go yet. Those were the days.

    • Don Perkins says:

You’re right, Lynn. Those “Big Four” were coming up with one thing after another, and when it was time to go to OTSN it was best to have a little money to spend, because between those 4, there was so much to choose from.

But, Lynn, I’m assuming you’re going to Chicago, and will have a big diorama on display this year. I wasn’t sure I myself was going this year, but just made my reservations at the show site, and it gave me a feeling of relief to know the decision to go has been resolved and the hotel room is now confirmed. In at least one past year I piddled around and then had to go on a hotel waiting list. It worked out in the end, but I was in a nervous, unsettled state for a couple of months.

But with this being the last year for Barzso, and with Stone Castle gone & now TSSD likely not coming, things just won’t be quite the same. But I guess “change” is the irrevocable law of the universe.

I hope Matt Murphy & Nick can work something out. Seeing Bill Murphy along with young Stengel Jr. there is one of the reasons I made up my mind to go. Come to think of it, the presence of MarxMan Sr. actually made it the “Big Five”. Then, of course, Richard Conte came along, and it was actually, for awhile, the “Big Six”.

      • Len Hardt says:

Right you are, Don. MarxMan Sr. used to have isles of plastic stacked from floor to ceiling. He told me, he took pride in that his room had “more plastic per square inch than anyone else.”

It looks like the final announcement is coming soon.
