Marx 60mm Egyptians and Other Figures

IMG_0328Marx 60mm Egyptians are figures I did not know they existed until  person came up to me in a show in New Jersey many years ago and showed them to me. I had bought from this person the previous year a large lot of Reamsa and Jescan figures and he was happy with what I paid for his Spanish plastic. He thought of me for these figures. What he had was inside of the box as outside had been damaged by water.  I bought it and it was a prize piece in my collection until I had to sell it to pay some taxes.

Looking at Marx 60mm Egyptians two tier box, we see that there are nine figures in six poses.  The poses are Egyptian with spear and shield, Egyptian charging with sword and shield, Egyptian advancing with sword overhead, Egyptian bowman with bow up, Egyptian with club and shield and Egyptian bowman with bow down. The duplicate poses were the two different  bowmen and Egyptian with club and shield.  Five of the six poses were copies of the Golden Marx six inch figures done in 1963. The only pose not done in six inch was Egyptian charging with sword and shield.  The figures are painted in Warrior of the wwrlds style. One other interesting thing is this two tier box does not have a historical military figure related to these figures as the other two tier boxes do.

ELASTOLIN COPIES AND MARX FRENCH FOR PAUL 001

The question I had for years how was the set sold part of a series or by itself. Our good friend Mark Hageman came up with the answer on the back of the two tier box of WWI French.  On the back was a list of various figures in the series with the Egyptians leading the way followed by the Marx Arabs.

The Marx Arabs were from the Marx Captain Gallant Playset based on the  television show starring Buster Crabbe. The playset  had seven Arab poses but two were mounted poses so only the five foot poses were used.

As why these figures are hard to find is any unknown question. where they late into production that they only got a limited production of these figures.  We will never know now unless paperwork shows up.

T D Barnecut found this photo on the Internet of the Marx 60mm Egyptians Reissues.  It was a listing from a EBay seller in the Ukraine. He sold these figures earlier this year.  What makes this interesting is the Ukraine set has eight different poses while the Marx set has six. The two new poses are Egyptian advancing with spear and shield and Egyptian ready to throw spear. The Egyptian with spear and shield is based on a Marx 6 inch figures while the other is original figure. As you can see in the photo the Egyptian advancing spear is incomplete.  Is this why he and the other figure were not used in the set?

The Marx 60mm Egyptians were done also in brown and red. You can click on the colors to see the variations. The 6 inch Marx Egyptian advancing with spear and shield may have same problem of the spear breaking as noted in this Ebay listing

We would like to thank Mark Hageman,Denitz and T D Barnecut  for their help.

Thanks Erwin ,I thought it was just one person selling them, I think I saw this one also, surprised either they have more than one or they aren’t selling, price is good too ? Wonder if these were WOW that just never got painted and sold ?

  6. Mark says:

I see ,he had quite a few you said 17 ! that explains it !

  7. Erwin says:

If google his sales under his feedbacks you may see the items sold and see how many Arabs beside others 60mm Marx in same exact plastic sold. After close look at as sailors he has.One look to have as lot mold overage all around. So I’m wonder if these are old original or some type of later recast or cloned.
I had not see any Egyptians.
The painted Egyptian depicted by admin are a rare interesting set.
I had never see any like that.
T he history is once again another mystery explained.

  8. Mark says:

I believe I have a set or two of the 60mm Egyptians,if I remember they weren’t too badly cast I also like the recast 60mm Marx Knights !

  9. erwin says:

Well I’m only content with early reissues in red brown from Russia in the 90’s I got two sets, never see any painted full set in case like this at all.
I got the knights too, now by looking at this painted set wonder if the now 6 poses -original 8 poses knights 60 mm been sold recast from Russia were ever produced and painted or sold in the US?

    • admin says:

      Erwin
The knights were never issued for some reason. Test samples exist of some of the figures in hard plastic painted Warriors of the World style. the knights were used for the 30mm range

      • erwin says:

Thank you x update. Yes I saw the small ones and when saw the reissues no long ago got them right away. I like ,I saw that original two poses were never reissue, too bad. To damage a mold take a lot of work, wonder if they got junk and found after!?

  10. Mark says:

  11. Erwin says:

    Thank you Denitz.
