Not surprised, might pump some life back in to that show if someone were to buy it.

I had noticed that photos from the 2015 show were never added to the Indy Show website.

And I had felt, after attending the 2015 show, that the limited buying and selling which took place called into question the continued existence of the show.

But there wasn’t anything in particular that I thought Barry Knight did wrong. The show was always at a nice venue, was always advertised and promoted, and always had a good selection of notable dealers present. The show also seemed to successfully replicate the weekend, room-trading format of OTSN.

I’m sorry to hear the news.

I meant Barry Carter, not Barry Knight. Barry Carter is from Knightsville, Indiana —- my brain circuits got crossed.

However, I think it would be interesting as to WHY Barry no longer wants to sponsor the show, if he has explained that to someone.

A few years back, Nick and DeAnna quit sponsoring the San Antonio Show, stating publicly that it was too difficult to do from a thousand miles away. They only made the announcement, however, after lining up KINGS X, an established local toy soldier & antique retail store to take over the job.

In the case of Indy, Barry Carter IS the established local retail antique dealer, and hence seemed like the logical person to both originate and run the show. If Barry Carter can’t do it, I’m wondering who can?

Of course, I’m speculating at this point. Maybe it’s health problems, or some other unrelated matter that makes Mr. Carter unable or unwilling to continue.

Barry and his wife are always regular attenders at OTSN, and go from room to room meeting everybody. Maybe, if he’s there this year, he’ll offer some clarifying comment to someone.

In response to Don’s posting as to lack of photos from the Indy show, my fault. I usually take photos and Rusty and Jim are nice enough to post them. I was out the show and did take photos but after I got back from the show I did have a minor set back from my by pass surgery and the posting. “fell through the cracks”.

    • Don Perkins says:

Well, Mike, that’s certainly understandable. I wasn’t complaining about no photos. It was just that I noticed that unlike all other years, photos of the 2015 show were never posted. I didn’t know why, and thought that today’s announcement might have explained why. Apparently, there was no relation between the two things. Thanks for the info.

Maybe Joe Saine would be interested in sponsoring the show. But when Barry Carter talks about selling the show, I’m wondering what it is exactly that the buyer gets. The name? That can easily be changed from “Indiana Toy Soldier Show” to “Indianapolis Toy Soldier Show” or “Midwest Toy Soldier Show”, without having to pay for the “rights” to do so. Vendor list? Joe Saine already has nearly the same list of vendors for his Michigan show.

In other words, I wouldn’t think the “rights” to the show would amount to very much money.

That would be my humble opinion.

        • Don Perkins says:

Unfortunately, I think the show is now dead, and is unlikely to be resussitated. And I’m sorry, because over the past 15 – 20 years, I’ve made the trip and attended it many times.

If anyone else on this site has any other information about this, or any additional details, I would appreciate hearing it.

I think the Indy show has been on the decline since they moved the venue. Last years show I thought was the worst ever. I thought it was very poorly attended by the public for both room trading and the show. I do however like that show and I hope someone picks it up. I’m not very confident about that though.

On a better note I received my annual mailer today from Rod Chapman for the Columbus, Ohio Toy Soldier Show. Due to grade school football the last two years I missed this local event. Since my 6th grader is now focusing on track I get my fall Sundays back. I will definitely be there to help the hobby and the economy.

The show is on October 18 at the Tall Timbers Banquet Facility in Reynoldsburg (far east side). Not as big as Indy but still a good show.
