JJ’s Chicago Figure Finds Monogram

JJ’s Chicago Figure Finds, we were back looking at what JJ Schebetta found at the Chicago show. In a previous post, we show the space figures he got now we will look at his other finds.

JJ’s Chicago Figure Finds Ideal

JJ's Chicago Figure Finds Ideal Sailor
JJ got some Ideal figures and sailors and soldiers. I remember getting the Ideal sailors at a toy House party that my mom let me attend. It was the only figures offered.
Ideal Anzio
JJ found this great Ideal 54mm Ideal Anzio Invader BAR man sorting through a bin with probably a few hundred figures.  Great stuff, you just never know what you might find.
JJ's Chicago Figure Finds gunner
JJ told me an interesting in getting these figures. Here is what he said I found these two guys in Rick Eber’s room also.  The figure on the left is as you know the softer more flexible plastic-type, from Ideal’s Battle Action Machine Gun Nest set.  Rick also had this very set, with the two machine gun figures in grey, and it was in great shape with the pull string intact and working perfectly well.

Funny thing Rick had just picked up this Ideal stuff and he had the two tan guys and the seated Jeep driver and officer combo and a couple of seated riflemen for the trucks and I had grabbed the two tan machine gunners and went to talk to Rick about them.  As I went back to grab the grey figures they were not there any longer, another collector had just walked into the room and had them in his hands that quickly.  Oh well, I prefer the tan ones anyway, the grey ones remind me of Germans just because they are grey, even though clearly they have US uniforms, helmets and web gear.

Marx Figures

Marx Indian Horse
Here is JJ’s thought on the Marx Indian pony standing. Great pony in great shape, in the little bit scarcer black color, reins intact.  I just think this figure is a great sculpt.
Marx Arctic
Marx Aritic Eskimo driver. herre is why JJ bought two figures. I always enjoy figures in scarcer more harder to find colors.  Here we have two Arctic Explorers sled drivers, one in grey and one in tan.  Too bad about the air bubble cavity in the tan figure, I picked him up anyway though as you very seldom see the vintage Arctic guys in this nice tan color.
We will show more in part two.

What a lovely collection of figures you have got there. I love digging out boxes of figures you never know what you will find in them.

Hi Paul. Just read your latest, about the Chicago show. I’d love to find the Ideal Battle Action set. Great poses. Do you remember what Eber charged for the set? Any idea where else I could look for them? I’ll be attending the NY/NJ Show in Nov. Anybody has some, I’ll be looking. Thanks again, Carl

I believe the tan Arctic figures were exclusive to Canadian Marx sets. I’ve seen the Miners and Trappers in tan, including the little separate sack for the guy with the lantern to carry on his other shoulder. Not sure about the gray figure. Marx sets in America generally had yellow or blue Eskimos and gray Trappers. Surprised that Eber doesn’t have more Canadian Marx since he’s up in Syracuse.

i wish Ideal had made their poses in green. i never understood the reason for gray, since they are clearly US troops. and although the color of the blue ideal battle action truck isn’t perfect, it does make for a great german troop carrier.

Hi Carl! Rick was asking $200.00 for the Ideal battle Action Machine Gun Nest Playset. No box, but the piece was complete, in great shape, and functioned quite well.

Hello J.J. Thanks for reply. I guess that’s fair. Very rare, never going to be anymore. Actually, I’d only like all the seated figures and the one firing rifle. Not interested in the apparatus. I think they are the best detailed soldiers, ranking with Conte’s DDay series. I see a seated pose figure on eBay, once in a while. About $16. I keep hoping to find at least 3 poses, so I hold off on single poses. Totally enjoy Stads Stuff. Thanks.
