Two interesting poses first is a Russian with a British Lewis Machine gun.The other is a German with a Madsen machine gun. The Lewis machine gun was purchased by Russians in 1917. Madsen machine gun is considered the first true light machine gun. Interestingly Russian bought the Madsen for the Russo-Japanese War.

  1. ERWIN F SELL says:

There just a minor inconvenience here. The set has German w hat/helmet used till early 1916 max only as the new steel helmet was used and incorporated in more since 1916 till end of the war.
The Russian barely used the Lewis as they got only few delivered by late war after may 1917 if ever as records are very doubty.
So both figures set are not quite correct antagonists in same conflict.
Would be better if the Russian had the Madsen as they had it since 1904 in mass.
Regardless as usually they are super well done and great astonishing figures and as most publius, direct copy of metal already designed cast figures.
Price is insane but a welcome addition for those willing to buy and afford it .
    my thoughts.

  2. Darren Hatley says:

The Publius figures have always been top quality figures and ive always liked them, But as has been stated on here before the prices are just to expensive for most collectors and are certainly to much for me, And they will only get more expensive as time goes on. So i wont be getting any but are nice figures for those that can afford them.
The theme of figures these days is for a small quantity of figures in small runs mainly from Russia and Eastern bloke in general which are quite expensive, But some companys like Chintoys and others are more affordable, But at least its good to see that Toy Soldiers are still being made.

Are the Publius figures brittle/stiff resin or are they injection molded?

    • erwin says:

No.since Indian first set in 2016 all PUBLIUS are made in very soft nice plastic material.Same as Plastic Platoon.
Sorry I do not undertant what you mean w injection molded.
All figures are injected molded when done .
material does nothing to be w quality of plastic

      • Eddie White says:

The plastic is better, smoother, and less brittle than resin plastic (even spun polyurethane). Yes technically even resin figures are injected molded, but the toy soldier community understands the inferred difference. Injected being many multiple runs before the mold is destroyed or unusable.

        • ERWIN F SELL says:

Yes ,the plastic used since is much better .However the older version brittle harder plastic or resin mix is still good as figures do not suffer much bending or else.Even those stock at not insulated cold attic in my house with temperatures in winter here never above 20 degrees in the warmest day had last there without any issue. So the old material does not get bad under cold weather or humid hot summer either as far my experience.
The issue with older material become clear after several shipping long trip made from sellers to buyers where some figures even after well packing arrived damage.
i got experience with that in my stocking x sale of early set and it made me stop selling then x good plus the price cost/profit difference not much.

Unfortunately Injection molding had been miss concept as to be for long run production only .It is not .
Machine simple uses a injector to push material melted at desire speed graduated with speed and temperature of specific machine and cooling of material desired used. You can either run few hundred or thousand from any machine.
but main makers from china using larger machine that require a huge amount electricity and time prep and post cleaning request minimum run of 2000 sets in most part to save time/cost and payroll.
The injector part could be mechanical, electric ,hydraulic or else .It could be used with molds made in any metal ,steel, aluminum, bronze and zinc by example.
Is not too hard today make one but quality as for small figures and deep detail is a problem unless you have an specific timing ,amount well graduated injector machine.A simple injector machine could cost from 300 to 500 approx for simple parts not figures.
Hand push small mold machinery is used by these makers in general.
PLASTIC PLATOON owner uses same machinery of Publius to do his.
Same goes for mexican marx arabs and FFL recast copies made.

  7. Les White says:

The standing firing German appears to be a dismounted Hussar if the details of the plastic are the same as the metal version. A clearer picture will show the braiding on the jacket and the detail of the hussar hat.

    • ERWIN F SELL says:

The pose is a Hungarian hussar. It was made to use the set as hungarian- austrian as well intentional .Figures base in Ronin and other metal maker exact models singles figurines .

  8. Ken Thelen says:

As always the latest Publius Vikings are magnificent figures – historically accurate and superbly sculpted. Yet I must ask do we really need another set of Vikings. Conste made three sets, Emhar one, Warhansa one, and Publius made two previous sets of Vikings. There may be other sets of Vikings out there that I am not aware. There are other important Early Medieval polities besides the Vikings that have been given zero attention by manufactures. The Carolingian Franks, the Middle Byzantines and the Abbasid Arabs to name but three empires that waged wars of great significance and duration. I was going to add the Kievan Russ but then I recalled that Engineer Basevich had filled that gap. I do hope that some manufacturer will someday do these three important Early Medieval armies.

      Ken
Part of the reason they are doing Vikings is demand. With limited production, less demand series can be done. We will have to see what turns up in the coming year.

      • Don Perkins says:

Besides, Vikings grip the public imagination, sort of like the American Civil War and the Alamo both do — in a way that Carolingian Franks, the Middle Byzantines, and the Abbasid Arabs don’t. But I understand the point.

        • ERWIN F SELL says:

Hollywood made viking same made out pirates thematic a good motive of many films .Popularity by advertising made then more attractive too .
Besides any viking can be use as many others warriors as well.So they have multiple use ,specially among germanic warriors people.
          my thoughts.

        • ERWIN F SELL says:

Correct released in may/june 2018 after being announced in april off metal matrix ,but run out because mold issues, then redone again .
