Hyrcania was one of the satraps of the Persian Empire. They supplied armed forces of Perrsia. Especially during the second invasion of Greece.  As mention before the set has one officer and eight soldiers. The officer is with an axe instead of a sword as in the Persian Hoplite set.

This is the contents of the Hrcanian Hilman. The figures will work well with your Conte Collectibles Spartans.  I am sure you will have hours of fun putting these figures together.

These ExForce Persians are scaled and matched to the Conte Spartans, and are the perfect counterparts which Conte promised, but ultimately gave up on.

    • ERWIN SELL says:

I agree 100% .thanks to EXF line of ancient persians else we can continued the Conte 300 sparta and others wars collection. Now i notice Lod are not quite in scale with then even do are different eras but still close ancient armies.
      best

      • Henry P. says:

honestly love LOD i have not bought any exforce figures cause they happen to always mess up one detail i just can’t live without not saying they aren’t good i would just rather give my money to tssd for personal reasons its a real shame LOD went with revolutionary war figures next but hey i can’t complain i’m going to buy them just cause i really support his ideas it will take me time of course i buy what i think is dire first not last i have yet to Finnish my tssd civil war calv and buy up their plains Indians aswell i say tssd civil war calv cause that’s what they are if you want a custers last stand go with paragon although most of their troops have shrunken head syndrome they do tote the trapdoor Springfields if paragon or exforce or anyone really would do a span am war figure set i would be tickled pink i don’t know why LOD did a Christmas elves series though its not my place to judge but i won’t be buying these unfortunately but to say the lod Trojans aren’t crazy cool is out of line completely i hope he does some Mexican american war marines like barszo did but in good ol plastic not cheap resin would love to see some civil war figures out of him his idea to bring back some barszo figures as plastic instead of resin was incredibly flexible and reassuring with where all this is going back to lod though real quick i don’t mind his choice honestly its just not my favorite time period i can change though i didn’t use to like the civil war at all but i eventually grew to like it i just cannot wrap my head around linear warfare it sounds really gut wrenching its one thing to sit in a hole and shoot some one compared to stand in a line and look him in the face i think the civil war is noteworthy cause i found out they weren’t in fact using flintlocks but percussion caps its was truly the first industrial war military officers and higher ups couldn’t comprehend it either because the inventions moved so quickly more people died then the next 3 or so wars combined amazing to think brothers killed each other for simply an ideal as mere and fleeting as a state line or an ideal which did not concern them at the time in the slightest but ended up shaping the course of us history for the next 200 years and to think the percussion cap was only used during this war and the Crimean war in that small time gap of a 30 year period rifles changed the most they ever had with spiral grooving and the Minnie ball what lackluster events led to one of the most tragic events the U.S. had ever seen amazing history the civil war is such a shame to see it and the wild west under represented in this hobby when i was a kid civil war knights and ww2/vietnam cowboys were all highly popular subject matter i may be a minority in the millennials that actually really likes history but i’m a firm believer in that history not only repeats itself but has allot of value its a shame to here people not even be able to tell me what a handful of minor wars were fought over you ask someone why was the war of 1812 fought and most people won’t be able to tell you a thing about it quite sad were doomed to commit the sins of our fathers into the black abyss of time

  2. Henry P. says:

exforce is the best we have nowadays honestly i wish they could get their scale right cause these are fantastic figures for a cheap price although i like the new sculpts i hope we see more civil war and ww2 out of them

  3. Wayne W says:

My wife got me some ExForce Persians for Christmas a few years back; I was delighted to see they matched my Conte Spartans. It will take me quite a bit of time to gather enough of them though, to pose a realistic threat to the literally hundreds of Spartans in all three colors I bought…

Of course, the way the Spartans are crumbling and falling apart it might not be an issue.

  4. Wayne W says:

A further thought (it seems that always happens after I hit the “post” button.

I am excited LOD is teaming with Barzso to keep his line alive and expand it. I was extremely disappointed to discover that TSSD cancelled their plans to do a Revolutionary War set after Barzso revealed his Lexington set. I loved the Lexington set – I managed to get two of them – one for Christmas (gotta love my wife) and then snagged another at bargain prices off Ebay.

But then Ron Barzso couldn’t get his followup set off the ground and disappointed again…

I know 18th and 19th Century warfare isn’t everyone’s cup of tea – but for me, there is something about the era that attracts me. I love the look of large numbers of troops in colorful uniforms aligned across an open plain even as a soldier I shudder at the mayhem unleashed in real life.

I remember what my brother told my mother before he left for Nam, “Don’t worry about me Mom, I’ll be okay – when I get there I’m going to start digging my foxhole and keep digging. The only way they’ll find me is by the empty C-ration cans and the smell…”

    But I digress.

I love the LOD Trojan War figures and have managed to snag some, but my heart really isn’t in it any more.

I hate to say it but the Spartans really disillusioned me with Ancients. As I said above, the ExForce Persians will provide worthy opponents, but I consider how much it will cost and the other figures and eras I could get with that money… It will probably never happen.

    But to each their own.

    • Daniel Murphy says:

You mention above that your Conte Spartans are crumbling and falling apart. What is happening with them? Was there a problem with the plastic? It’s disturbing to think that such relatively recent plastic figures would be deteriorating like that.

      • Wayne W says:

Some of the thin parts like spears and such were a bit fragile from the start. But I’ve carefully packed mine away out of sunlight and in such a way as to avoid crowding and crunching. I’ve had quite a few break – particularly at the joints, due to apparent deterioration of the plastic. This seems to be worse in the bronze and silver figures but I’ve seen it in some of the reds, too.

The last time I had them out I had to glue several joints together, which seems to defeat one of the major selling points – poseability. I also noted some signs of possible cracking on legs of some of my metallic colored guys. A major disappointment.

Just a short while ago I noticed at least one auction on Ebay (maybe another – possibly the same set re-listed) that contained a few broken figures.

Others have reported this problem as well.

        • Henry P. says:

yeah conte is a good maker in his time but i’m not a fan of his resin gi’s either nearly all of mine are broken and they sell at insane prices on ebay a real shame because his rubber figures have to many mold likes while his resin although they look beautiful are not free of errors in the way they break like peanut brittle

        • Daniel Murphy says:

Wayne, I’m sorry to hear that. It is a shame that such groundbreaking (and for the time pricey) figures are deteriorating so soon after their manufacture. As all here have been noting, the expensive figures coming out of Russia are really display pieces, plastic analogues of the magnificent metal figures made in that country. But the Conte Spartans were clearly designed for some level of play, as well as display, and I regret that they are not holding up.

          • Don Perkins says:

My own Conte Spartans are not deteriorating. I have more than 400 of them — approx. 300 in red, and about 100 in bronze and silver. Initially, I initially stored them all in 1-gallon plastic ziplock bags, all jumbled together, and occasionally I would get a broken spear. But now I store them in boxes, with figures layed one on top of another, with the spears all pointed in one direction. And there is no breakage.

My Conte Omaha Beach WWII Americans I continue to store in 1-gallon size plastic ziplock bags. Occasionally, an arm comes unglued (since Conte achieved a more realistic effect by casting the arms (and sometimes the heads) separately, just as he did the Alamo Mexicans, using the same plastic material on both. But the arms, when they come loose occasionally, are easy to glue back on with superglue gel.

I don’t think it is fair to say Conte’s plastic figures are “deteriorating”, “breaking”, or “falling apart”.

In my opinion, that would be a gross exaggeration.

Nor is it correct to call Conte’s figures “resin”. Other than the unfortunate British/Afghan minisets, and a very few very limited poses among the Alamo Defenders and some Viking Raider/Monks, which were cast in a very high-quality resin, all of Conte’s figures were injection molded plastic.

There’s plenty of room to criticize Richard Conte for all the meaningless projections and promises of “coming soon” he’s made over the past years. But the quality of his plastic figure releases has always been very high.

          • Erwin says:

None of my Conte or even resin barzso have any issue at all. Some are over 15 year old storage and all in plastic cases in attic and garage w out insulation and under extreme cold winter where i live and humid summer.
So I don’t know about that.
As mine are perfect .I just went grab few bend then outside.Took inside look w magnify and nothing today.
Now TSSD does get rigid frost and fragile while under cold temperatures ehen storaged. My romans did as well NVA .

            Best

  5. Darren Hatley says:

Really nice Persian figures, I might very well get a set or 2 of these.

  6. Wayne W says:

Don, I’m glad you haven’t had any problems with your Conte Spartans; that has not been my experience. I’ve stored mine much the same way you have – even more carefully than my other figures.

Now, as for me, I’ve been less careful with my Conte WW2 GIs and they have held up quite well. Mine are stored in sealed plastic bags inside plastic storage containers and my last check were doing well. We have different experiences.

I don’t believe I was being unfair- just honest according to my experience. I was asked to clarify a statement I made and I did honestly. I don’t believe I personally attacked Richard Conte and I don’t think you’ll see anywhere that I have personally attacked him. I think that would be unfair.

Actually, in the past I’ve defended him somewhat, giving him the benefit of the doubt when his plans and dreams didn’t come to pass. I think his greatest “sin” was to dream out loud. I think I’ve said elsewhere (perhaps here) that I used to enjoy calling in an order in those pre-internet days when I’d get him and often sit for an hour or two shooting the breeze listening to his ideas.

I’m reminded of my uncle who used to buy an Irish Sweepstakes ticket every year. I asked him once why just one; he’d answer – “That’s all you need.”

Then I asked him if he thought he ever had a chance of winning. He shook his head, “Nah…”

    Then why buy one?

“It’s worth the buck for the dreams…”

I make no bones I was disappointed with the Conte Spartans – first there was no followup and now MY own PERSONAL sets are extremely fragile to the point of falling apart. But they are still some of the finest sculpts ever made and it was a nice idea – even if it didn’t completely pan out.

    And it WAS fun dreaming…

Have these figures come out yet as I have bought all my EXPO FORCE Persians from Steve Weston and he does not have them on his site at the moment wondering if I have missed out on them.
