Closeup Plastic Platoon Vietnam Figures Final Comments

The detail on these figures is amazing.  I am not upset with the minor mistakes on these figures. Overal the sculptor has done a fantastic job. I just waiting to hear what they will cost at retail.  The figures from Russia keep amazing me.  I am sure some people wished they would get this type of detail in American Civil War figures.

I agree on all counts, Paul. These set a new standard IMHO.

  2. TDBarnecut says:

Are these plastic figures re-makes of existing white metal figures? Just curious because Erwin had previously reported that some Russian made plastics are copies of highly detailed previously made metal figures. This question is for Erwin.

    • ERWIN SELL says:

      Response.
So far the Russian figures sets made by (NO NAME brand) are the most base direct cloned on metal poses figures made by metal casting from russian company. For that I had post direct link to it here before so they can see poses where extracted or cloned from in to plastic.
Publius company too took several WW2 russian-Soviet poses direct extracted and used too as well the indians and several knights before
Now Because these are a all new Enterprise from a new person in Russia who is using one of the artist and manufacture of Publius as far according to what I HAD been informed .I will guess are not copies.Neither I had seen any of the poses in the metal casting figures website.
However it could or may be the case as well. For that i will need ask about .
The main contributor in information to me is Alex who also sale at ebay and many times before had contributed in pictures and data of many other sets from Russia as well my direct source importing figures in past .
I generally pass his information within minutes or hours of received to admin .
Also and in general i will inform that i will not carry these figures as previews i had done son for sale from Russia brands as Russian seller sale then in around same price all and shipping very economic plus fast from there .So no need when few limited produced .

      Best regards.

I have to admit I have not been this excited about new plastic figures since Conte started advertiseing in that long ago magazine PFPC (?)

  4. ed borris says:

    Truly awesome figures.

  5. Edward L Bearnson says:

I am just waiting like the rest of you for the price and when I can buy them and from
whom. Keep us updated and thanks again. Ed Bearnson. 8-8-17.

  6. Tom Black says:

Seems the best toy sculptors in Russia are making Toy Soldiers and in the USA they are making 12 or 7 inch Action figures.

    • ERWIN SELL says:

Funny parts most of toy figures and action figures are not even designed by US artist at all but abroad ….Time change a lot .
Now is the time for the dormant east european since mid 2012 making the best ever sculpted plastic lines in this hobby .
Not only Russian ,but Ukrainian and even Uzbekistan plus others …
Unfortunately they are become expensive as they are using also the limited run production but this hobby is also less in people in my opinion so less buyers less sets more sense for fast sales in the maker thoughts.

      best

  7. Jack Gibbons says:

Those are AWESOME figures! Time to take all sanctions off of Russia, encourage lower-priced figures and new markets, and bring these troops home.

  8. ERWIN SELL says:

I doubt in the prices on these but they will be very easy to order as other from Russia direct …
The more new production i see recently the more pricy they got ,even EXF sets are getting very proportional near to these at an average of 3.75 to 5.00 per figures approx not counting shipping .EXF along had increase 3 times prices in less year and half.
The important thing is they keep making ,but when prices keep rising also less will buy and or less amount sets figures purchase per collector forcing to only limited run production manufactures to survive .
I had heard how long take to 4 to 5000 sets to be sold for a maker and is insane in last 5 years along from two makers
That tell me that there is way less 1000 buyers in one year per set in the hobby worldwide. That is sad considering amount of money put on per set per production.
    my thoughts..

  9. Mark T. says:

The detail is incredible! The faces, the rips in the uniforms, everything…

Did you notice the shotgunner is wearing a human scalp on the back of his helmet, just like that sadistic S.O.B, Bunny, the shotgunner in Platoon?

My wife is going to be soooo mad at me when I spend 100 bucks on these two sets. I normally never even consider buying sets that costly, but I think this time I’m going to give in.

  10. ed borris says:

Don’t know how many of you remember, but Junior had a scene were he put insect repellent on his feet and he had his boots off and good old sarge threatened him with a centipede if he didn’t put his boot back on.

  11. Andy says:

Based on the Russian Indians selling at 6 for $50 + $10 shipping, I’m guessing these 12 guys will be around $100 + $10 to $20 shipping for 12. Have to admit the scalp on the shot gunner is pretty cool, but these are not in my area of collecting interest. Looks like a good year for Viet Nam figures starting with TSSD, etc.. Too bad Stengel’s figures never materialized since the pictures of prototypes looked pretty good. I hope these guys get to your collections soon. If they get molded in China, that could be trouble a la CTS Cavalry.

  12. berthoux says:

    Awsome figures.
Just the M60 (pigface?) seems to be a little bit tiny (as the Colt 45) isn’t it?
    Best from France

    • Erwin says:

Yes Mathias we agree on those weapons too small too …
      Best …

      • Greg Liska says:

Mathias – You got it almost right. The M-60 was not-so-lovingly called ‘The Pig’ by all of us unfortunates who had to carry it.

Echoing the other, and as I’d brought up in an earlier thread – great sculpts, but the weapons are a bit undersized.

  13. Erwin says:

I had forward the weapons size issue direct to maker via contact.
But at this state I doubt it would be changed.
    Best.

  14. Erwin says:

I had also being informed that figures are early war period 1968 or before.

    • Greg Liska says:

Not too early, though. They got M-16’s. Most with the later added Forward Assist component.

      • ERWIN SELL says:

Greg that is what maker say.Not me.
Maybe artist did not care about that small detail too much.
        Yet…
Considered the M16 by 1969 had replaced the M14 by standard i will think artist put into figures the right weapon.
Besides..The First AR15’s(Colt 601/602) sent to Vietnam in the early 60’s lacked the forward assist. By the time US Army ground forces went to Vietnam in 1965 the Xm16E1(M16 with forward assit) was standard A for Airmobile units.(1ST and 25) The only large scale users of the early foward assistless M16’s after 1964 were USAF security forces or Embassy security.
So from 1966-1968 they were very well available for specific units represented in figures as far research goes..

        My thoughts..
        Best

  15. Brian Johnson says:

I received 2 sets in mail other day and as the Radioman figure doesn’t trip my trigger I will trade 1 if anyone interested(keeping 1).I’ll trade him for the Dollar General “Merkava” tank or make me an offer. You can get my email address from Paul.
