Reader’s Contributions, Short Observation June 2017

Reader’s Contributions, Short Observation June 2017 we have some photos and information from readers. First Marcus Lecksheid sent photos to enhance previous items we talked about.  Next Don Perkins makes us aware that the latest Chintoy figures are available in the United States. Brian McIver sent us photos  of TSSD Civil War figures painted by a friend. Finally I will do some short observations on hobby.

Markus has sent us some photos in regards to various items we have posted.  Here we have four more Vikings to go with the Viking we showed. Markus noted the Viking with a torch is missing a weapon in his right hand. We still do not know who made them.

The next photos from Markus are the front and back of the Popular Russians we showed. The figures in the box are unpainted. Can anyone tell me if they were sold painted?  Markus noted that the set cost  2 Rubles 30 Kopeks (the smaller unit that hardly exist any longer) He figured that the set must have been produced at Soviet time when the currency of USSR was not freely convertible and state fixed exchange rate had been weird for visitors.

Reader’s Contributions, Short Observation June 2017  Don Perkins

Don sent me the following note on the new Chin Toys Prussian  and Spainish / Portugese general staff sets.

You can let your readers know that the two new Chintoy sets (1/32 scale Prussian Napoleonic Staff and 1/32 scale Spanish & Portuagese Napoleonic staff) are both now availble from the ebay dealer RebelAlpha (Scott’s Model Shop) in California.  The sets are $18.95 each.  I ordered one of each and the total price, with postage, was $43.93.  Scott always mails his orders out right away, and I know I’ll have mine in just a few days, probably this week.

Brian McIver sent us the following pictures. He said the following As you know I love to paint but I thought I would get an artist friend to paint someof the TSSD figures to see what there take would be on them. They have turned out great. There is also an Italeri Zouave painted as a Confederate Tiger. They look great.

Reader’s Contributions, Short Observation June 2017 Short Observations

I am amazed how people can bid on playsets at auctions just by what they see on the internet. Many auctions just put up a single picture. They do not know what a set has.

I was at a recent auction where there was a Tom Corbett Space Academy playset. I opened the box and found it had two of the Marx bin toy space ships instead of  regular space car.  The bin rocket ships are hard to find. Problem the ships had been painted and I did not know if the paint can be taken off.  So I passed.

Same goes for figure lots the auction does not have time to spread out the lot. They are interested in moving the lots. You have to go and see the lot.  Many times you can find treasures.

The vikings are exact the one i have ,the one with torch is missing a swords.
I have feeling are made in France ,will try find out …

PROGRESS brand soviet set as” I did mention” before come in early 70s till 80s painted partially(faces and hands only) if i’m not mistaken…..http://www.stadsstuff.com/?p=9567
The picture above may show A possible late last boxed sets sold. But could be early too

The one posted in previews post i think are owner painted as i never see then paint as that with odd blue helmets over light later 90s green color ,but i could be wrong of course.
Poses are 9 ,the banner was always made separated mold red color piece.60 mm scale
always in medium type soft plastic material.
PROGRESS made the knights in 5 poses with plug in weapons in window boxes too and bags later. They were barely send to my country out as child.
They did sailors and soldiers for WW2/modern era in flat complete style in plastic as well. These were sold a lot since 70s when i was a child and very cheap .I never like then but now are nostalgic to me.
    best…

      Correction.Progress knights are 6 poses.
      Sorry.

Those WWII Soviet soldiers were just about all over Eastern Europe after the wall came down. I’d gotten one set in that box arrangement and lots of loose guys at flea markets in what was then Czechoslovakia, East Germany and Poland. Later I picked up a ton of them from on line. The dealer was Rus-sell (might be off on the spelling). I have a battalion of them still! I liked the idea that it was a depiction of the Soviet soldier as seen by the Soviets.

        • Erwin says:

Yes.Too bad this company only made these and Russian knights .
          Other likeWW sailors were flat.
I got then in late 70 and never play w then much.
PROGRESS also sold rare Timpo copies indians in every odd colors like almost dark bown amber .Often seen around in window boxes too.

ORIET factory that produced from 1989 till 2005 did a nice WW2 multi army soviet poses set in 8 poses but in 1:35 scale.
They also did Samurai,Ninjas , fantasy, modern soldiers plus Napoleonic early pre 1808 Russian 8 poses soldiers sets plus armored cars and some clones sets of Airfix selective poses sets too.
Most were imported here in 90s By Dimitry and others. From I got most sets.
Kent Spretcher .Also sold many of then too.
          Best…

    • Roman Guest97 says:

I had those soldiers when I was a kid. They came unpainted green plastic with only hands and faces painted with flesh color enamel which became lost during battles. Painting was the same as they did in set of five Russian medieval knights

  2. erwin says:

The paint figures looks awesome ver well done ,professional way,i always like- prefer the flat-mate realistic color over glossy toys style painting used since early metal and after by many painting figures in plastic as well .It give then a more historical natural field color touch.
    my thoughts.
    best..

  3. r smith says:

Nicely done,,tho those rifles need a bit of the hot cold water treatment

  4. r smith says:

Agreed on the tssd figures,,been painting them for some time,,
We are being fed the BS about net sales etc to the point of “buy your clothes ,,fast ship etc’,,,yes just leave those boxes and returns on the lawn for the drones coming and going to pick up,,not to mention the criminals circulating everywhere and watching the skys and lawns,,,being arrested every holiday season in this area,,,and oh yes,,”Sales are restricted to certain areas’,,as our local media asked ” You mean not the south side?” LOL
