Collector’s  Contributations Borris, Lecksheid More we have several interesting items to share with you. First Ed Borris  has sent us some photos of a figure that a friend is doing of him.  Then Markus Lecksheid has sent us some photos of  Hong Kong versions of the Crescent figures.  If we have room I will catch up on a swoppet Indian that I showed before.

The figure of Ed has him with a pistol and tomahawk. The figure could be used in other settings.  I can see that people are saying that is not Ed.

Well it is Ed just at an earlier age. Here is a photo of Ed. It is from his second wedding. Ed said that the friend will paint the figure. We can not wait to see the final figure.

Markus Lecksheid has sent us two photos of copies of Crescent figures.  The first is a Cowby and Indian. The blister card has 8 figures with two different figures.  Cowboys are cavalry standing firing rifle and  scout repainted.

The second Hong Kong Crescent copy is their 60mm  Mexicans.  The set has five of six poses. The Company added two donkies to the set.

I showed this figure recently. Several people thought that the head was seperate.

As you can see the head is part of the body. This is not typical of Hong Kong China Firms. Not able to do over molding they would do pieces in one solid color.

Nice looking figure,I also will be waiting to see it fully painted.

    • TDBarnecut says:

How ’bout a figure of Ed in a white tux fighting at the Alamo?

      • ed borris says:

No way, the blood would stain the tux and I’d be liable for damages.

Incidentally, I did have a top hat and cane with those white tails.

  2. Brian Johnson says:

I had the 2 gun Mexican all in Black with silver trim on pant legs.He was my “Cisco Kid”Disappeared in the Great Mom’s Clearout but have since found a replacement. The thing that used to chafe my chaps about Crescent figures was you just looked at them and the paint would flake off!!

    • You’re absolutely right Brian, the Crescent figures were notorious for paint flaking off, most of the other UK makers added chalk etc to the plastic to aid paint adhesion, the result is that 50 years later the figures have become brittle and break easily, you don’t get that problem with old Crescent figures.

      • erwin says:

I agree in paint in Cresent and knew about the chalk for long when doing my plastic reseach…
.Yet Cherliea,Charben ,Hilco,Pembros and Timpo solid I have on top braking easy their paint flake off a lot too as well easy.
it has very hard find one with more 60% approx paint on and to see then around as that in most collectors I know too
The paint used by MARX was far better ,the one used by Germans in Heimo ,Elastolin is one of best too
Spaniards COMANSI.PH,REAMSA JECSAN ,PUIG ,Puchol and others used special resin paint distributed and made in Spain by Resinas artistas BS-Yet in older pre 60s rubber figures it did not work as well as in plastic figures but was great paint too. Sorry is as still there in many figures

French manufactures as most plastic was the rigid type keep pain on better .
Italians had same issue with bad paint in most manufactures but with exception of XILOPLAST-CROMOPLASTO and Nardi that used an artist designed paint supplied type ,more costly in production.
From UK I thing the best ever was Britain ,not Herlad line .
        My thoughts.
        best

  3. erwin says:

I’m sure Ed looks as Ed and the pose figure is great …
    so the picture too Ed.
For some reason I think you could be Custer too .
Great done ,hope see it painted soon…

    • Mark T. says:

I think Ed would also make an excellent Viking. I really enjoy seeing personalized toy soldiers. Really nice work!

  4. erwin says:

Never see the first pack from MARKUS,I have same exact pack of Mexican copies in same box , last night I almost send picture to admin till I saw this post.
I also have plenty mounted copies of Mexican ,sold two lots last month and got few extras still that I will send pics.
The Indian with head attached is not common to me at all. Most of all HK contrary to what post mention with respect please were made of more loose separated parts and multy parts mold made pieces indeed than TIMPO swoppet .Least by BB,STAR TOYS,WELO and The Transogram Line HK made brand. Most compose of body uniform 7-10 parts versus TIMPO 5 to 6.
I had post here the example with Romans(STAR TOS) and Hurons-BB variation versus TIMPO .
I Can provide much samples compere if like with knights and western plus modern line
Even the NY HK men of 76s base in Britain and Timpo mix were of many parts as too.

I believe the figure is base or copied-extracted in ITALIAN swoppet Indian figures by Giopi first series 1976 that did not have swoppet heads. Or the German cheap line Swoppet figures to as Manurba,JH and others ,I may be confused in German brand give now as not in head ,sorry.
Or indeed could be a cheap last crude lazy production made by obscure HK line too of course.
    My thoughts.
    Best.

    • admin says:

this figure is one piece as oppose to being a separate head. will correct

      • Mark T. says:

Are you sure someone didn’t just glue a Timpo Indian head into a Hong Kong Indian body? The head seems exactly like a Timpo final version Indian, even with overmoulded hair. The neck also seems to have flash around the socket.

        • Erwin says:

Admin if indian has the head mold attached as part of body.
          Then is from UK.
Possible Elem HK Cherilea libe brand or another .
I have several bough from UK in a window case .
They were made as that and the overmold cover all around.
Now I got two others w different designed more bright green base and same figure body one piece body head from UK too but loose.
So either HK produced x some UK brand or else.
You can find those on ebay often from UK around…
          Best….

          • erwin says:

Sorry I wrote Elem, but is Ellem I think the correct spelling ,any ways it could or may not be ,I just site a sample and is very odd line as their knights least are exact same as the one sold by Transogram-NY but just under Ellem from Cherilea line .Mark only HK which let me to conclude Ellem was just a carrier line name used to bring those HK figures by Cherliea as Cherilea had done their onw 70 mm scale a swoppet line complete different already.
Back to Indians-Definitely are from UK when I see them,(Indians).
            Best..

  5. erwin says:

I got the pirates ,there more poses I think 6 total …

  6. Darren Hatley says:

Love the personalised figure, Great idea. Perhaps you would be able to do that easily when 3D printing gets better and cheaper.

  7. ed borris says:

The sculptor has informed me that the figure is in true 54mm size too. I am actually having two figures made, the other is a surprise for a good customer of mine that also contributes heavily to the hobby in many ways. It too fits the Alamo theme.

  8. Darren Hatley says:

Hi Ed just out of interest at the moment, How much would a 54mm figure of me made to look a Warrior of old cost at this time?

  9. ed borris says:

I’d say about $250.00. That’s from my source, When I had my 3D figure made it only cost me $150.00, but I don’t know if that was a special or not. In both cases you get more than one figure, one pose but multiple figures.

  10. Darren Hatley says:

Ok thanks mate, That is a bit more than I was hoping for and things are a bit tight at present. However it is something I will seriously consider in the near future. Who doesn’t want to lead there own Toy Soldier army into battle, That would be fantastic. Do you think this price will come down gradually or not really? I will keep this in mind and perhaps you can let me know your source when im ready if that’s ok with you.

  11. ed borris says:

Hard to say, I’m pretty sure the 3D printing cost will go down, The sculptor cost will probably go up if anything. When you’re ready get my e-mail address from Stad and shoot me a message.

  12. Darren Hatley says:

    ok thanks Ed

  13. Darren Hatley says:

Thanks Erwin I will send Ed an email soon.
