Plastic Figure Showcase Reader’s Contributions

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader’s Contributions once again we have some interesting items from you the readers. First we have some conversions from Peter Evans. Next Mark Taverna  send photos of his home-made 54mm Mexican or tumbrel cart. Markus gives us some Mexican lancers and an interesting figures.  We will have a question from Bill Nevins.  So let’s get started.

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader’s Contributions Peter Evans

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader's Contributions

Peter took some Cherilea cowboys and made some interesting  changes. The center figure has been changed into bandit.  The cowboy firing rifle has been put on Crescent legs.  The cowboy on left had been a bandit got a head change.

Mark T has decided to share his project on making a cart. Here is what he had to say.

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader's Contributions

I thought you and the other guys might like to see this cart for my Mexican setups that I made out of craft sticks from Walmart.    It only took a couple of hours using white school glue and a pair of sprue cutters to trim the wood.  I tapered the dowels for the wagon shafts with a pencil sharpener and used little wooden furniture plugs for the wheel hubs.

The range of craft sticks you can get now is quite impressive.  It’s not just those huge popsicle sticks anymore.  You can get very good representations of 54mm timber.  If someone wanted to, I am sure they could make very nice buildings, fortifications and wagons out of these craft sticks.   I am planning to duplicate an Atlantic 1/72 siege tower next.

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader’s Contributions Markus Lecksheid

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader's ContributionsMarkus Lecksheid sent us this photo of Mexican Lancer conversions. The horses are Britains and Timpo. Legs are Timpo.  I am not sure where the rest of the figure is from. What do you think?

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader's Contributions

Markus sent a photo of this other figure. He got this figure recently. Markus has no idea who it is. He is sure it is not original sword. On the belt he is not sure.  What do you think.

Plastic Figure Showcase Reader’s Contributions Bill Nevins

Finally we have Bill Nevins with questions on this rocket. We will let Bill explain.

I picked this up at the market last summer. The writing on the rockets fin says  “Scientific Products Company” and the body of the rocket says ALPHA-1.

 Plastic Figure Showcase Reader's Contributions
There is residue on the rocket and launcher which is probably baking soda. I recall using baking soda to make these blast off as a kid.
Pics show the firing mechanism and the container for the baking soda as well as the markings.
Plastic Figure Showcase Reader's Contributions
The base looks like it may have been attached to something larger.

I do remember these as a child but I have no information about them.
Maybe somebody knows on the site

The Lancer is actually made by Giopi. It has the correct supplied saber.
Giopi did Pirates ,Mexican , Zorro .
These are not same as those commission for Dulcop please
I have those Giopi poses as well and can pass pictures soon in mid spring as far I can dig then out.
GiopI figures often include articulated arms elbow, hand and legs/knees in a very realistic swoppet style.
They also did western characters such Kit Carson,BB…..knights, romans , modern soldiers ,animals and astronauts/space same way as They compete a lot with RES/KINDER in production and often confused but differ in minor details and way pieces connect plus distinctive base with three holes.
Their surprise line toy figures was distributed for cookies boxes and a lot in Portugal,Austria as well Spain and South America(Argentina)
Only the Western and US civil war are about 60 mm scale and very alike swoppet Jean Hoefler and PLasty mix design.
Giopi bases are all same exact as that for all swoppet “surprise figures”-not market.
Often in green ,brown or yellow. Only license charters were market with brand .
    While generic soldiers/figures were not
The bases for full sets(western) poses were I bit longer and market bellow with logo and or name brand.
Giopi ceased producing figures in 1991
    Best regards..

The mounted Lancer conversion are nice and great idea!!!
I can not see well the legs but looks as TIMPO .
The torso are surprise figures soldiers from Zorro set ,either by RES,GIOPI or other HK copiers that did then later..
    My thoughts..
    best…

Erwin Thanks. I never thought to look on Ebay. Anyway, from the prices I see, I did OK for 2 bucks. I’ll stick it in a Cape Canaveral display
Andy and Don you must remember these. Ed maybe you too.
You never knew where they were going. The boxed one has a string and a nail included so thet you can drive the nail into something and not loses the rocket.
These and the Big Bang cannons were loads of fun. Can you imagine the child safety laws that would have been all over these toys!!

  4. erwin says:

About cowboys conversion.Interesting enough and ironical Starlux has two poses very alike as Bandit .
    Where is the head from!?
Also right pose Starlux has another (just as is Buffalo Bill with boots on ) but same hat style ,it is belong to 1962 series early in oval bases.
    Great job !!!

I like the one horse or Oxen carriage, good simple idea. This would be call in Mexico as (carreton) .Looks typical realistic rustic made as in field by peasant .
Good suitable for many eras from ancient till modern .
Fortunately x me I got plenty plastic realist made by PUCHIL,PUIG and Jecsan with animals .But if I do not definitely will have try make one.
    Great job Mark!!
    Best regards…

  5. Darren Hatley says:

Nice conversions on all the figures, And I especially like the Cart, A good idea and something different.

  6. bill nevins says:

Andy, Oh yeah! We had those. Water and air pressure to blast off . I can’t believe that they didn’t explode, we pumped them up so much.

We are probably the last generation that was able to play with toys that would be considered dangerous by today.s standards.
Funny though, I never remember any kid getting hurt by and of those toys.

  7. Danny Lester says:

Sword could have come from Timpo ‘swoppet’ AWI figuures

  8. Ed Connell says:

I like fanning pistol poses. Looks a little like one of Airfix’s (but with a hat instead ), or Britains.
I don’t know about the legs. The Mexican bandido appears to be a repainted Britains I believe.

Overall fanning poses are pretty rare, and also one of the most dynamic poses that scream action.

  9. Mark McNamara says:

  12. erwin says:

    Mark with respect please.
Nice search ,I’m part of that blog by the way, the seller store often carry Dulcop nice figures as well
Giocattoli is toys in general in Italian ,so generally they will call all figurines /soldatini as part of Giocattoli ,by example Atlantic books are call Atlantic Giocattoli .
Now when referring explicitly to figures they use other words too in the hobby Italian wording ,not standard Italian base in material and scale style .
You can find plenty Giopi swopped figures in eBay international.
I will post some here one at time as is best that way.
Giopi often are call Giocata ,is a popular denigrated name given.
    best regards.

  13. erwin says:

  15. erwin says:
