In this photo we have the Mars North Vietnamese Army with bayonet rifle and  TSSD U.S. Army with bayonet rifle.

More Photos of New Mars North Vietnamese Army Figures  Final Thoughts

One surprise I found in the different poses of  Mars North Vietnamese Army no standing firing pose.  Another thing is there are two poses that are almost the same.  They are both walking with a rifle with one foot on a  rock. Despite these minor quibbles these figures are are a great addition.

WOW they look tall match with TSSD ,but a bit odd as Vietnamese if next to Americans.
However are very welcome to me.
Thanks x picture good compere Andrey.

    • Jon Burk says:

Erwin, that’s what I was thinking; these are tall Vietnamese or short Americans, (or both!) Seeing the officers side by side looks odd for that reason.

  2. erwin says:

Admin ,I notice same and remain me of AIP rise leg pose, left and right.
the shooting pose missing is odd too.
Wile I think the set is in move advancing in jungle depicted ,they could well done one least with so many poses done right!!!

  3. ed borris says:

I think one of them is a chick, the one advancing in the picture with the two kneeling figures. It clearly has a pony tail and those look like the telltale bumps of hoots. I could be mistaken, but it looks that way to me.

  4. TDBarnecut says:

One rock looks as though it may be an animal skull, the other might be a short tree stump?

  5. Brian Johnson says:

One looks like he’s stepping over a cobra!!When they arrive the Exacto knife will be ready LOL .

  6. ed borris says:

I would assume if you are advancing you are not going to purposely place you foot on a small tree stump. Well, at least I wouldn’t.

  7. Tom Black says:

These look like they have less molding issues than the previous VC and Marines. Is the Officer with binoculars wearing a WW2 Jap hat?

  8. erwin says:

For some reason I think they are taller than previews set in scale. If that is the case ,once again they are up in to the more common 1.30 scale used by most maker today but same time a disparity in continued the same line scale production and by photos with TIM MEE and TSSD these are giant Vietnamese soldiers.Which in south Asian I had seen only in some Chinese ethnic people, not Vietnamese or others.
The Japanese WW2 cap was adopted and mass produced for the NVA for any officer in field uniform from lieutenant to coronel. I s still in use as civilian version in Viet Nam as well.it does have a minor variation as not hard ring internal support .Overall look exact same at simple view.
    My thoughts.
    best….

  9. erwin says:

By looking better at office he is wearing the North Vietnam Army- Vietnam war camouflaged peaked cap. A original hybrid design mix of French and Japanese Navy cap made by early 70s ,not the cloned Japanese used from 50s till war end too.
The cap was used generally by more high ranking officer in field .

  10. ed borris says:

I think it’s really a Cubs hat because they won the world series.

  11. erwin says:

    In my opinion…
These figures and brand are in the same line production style as AIP.
Simple figures with enough detail and poses to be play for and represent what they are.
Definitely not top quality of course….
Any ways I welcome then in the so limited hobby every time decreasing production pipe line that for least last 5 years Russia is been top ranking producing as barely any in US and Western Europe is done any more as just to be and only EXPF and Russian makers are doing more than 15-20 sets per years least and possible more Chinese brands sets coming faster than any too.
So as for minor “inconvenience” in be poses odd such rocks, stump or legs else .I do not care at all and take then as that, any how would be not too complicated if like take it off with a blade if like too.
Any how back then most accept the ugly BMC and many others ugly than these MARS before .
And if I would not like then I will not buy it but least thanks then x keep the hobby alive better than null.
    My thoughts.
    best..

  12. ed borris says:

I would classify AIP, BMC, Mars as toy soldiers, not as classic collectibles. I think figures like Accurate, Conte , Barzso, TSSD and Paragon and others are collectible figures.

This is just a modern update of the 50’s & 60’s, where you would consider Marx as collectible and Timmee, Lido MPC as toys.

These are just my opinions and no way reflect the opinions of others who may feel I am full of horse hockey. This my own simple way of qualifying which figures I will buy as a collector. As a conversion guy I’ll buy anything to cut into pieces and have no qualms about doing so from my toy soldiers list . Collectible figures I will not cut up for the most part, oh wait I will too, only because they are newer or more readily available, but with a little more reluctance. BMC is a category all their own I won’t even buy them to cut up, becasue they are mostly rotten looking and hard as rocks.

Different era different names, same game though.

      Ed
I have a surprise coming of someone who used BMC legs for a conversion. It will be in my next article I am working on rightnow. I hope to have it tonight along with a figure of an elephant playing a guitar. LOL that’s for the elephant not the conversion.

  13. ed borris says:

Please note that my mention of some manufactuers were meant as examples and do not constitute an all encompassing list of what is collectible and what is not. This is just my own personal rule of thumb. Not to be confused with Little Jack Horners rule of thumb.

  14. Erwin says:

    I collect all .
I play with all when I can.
    If too fragile then not.

  15. I think these NVA are much better in quality than BMC or AIP both of which suffer from poor body sculpting especially the arms and legs. The Mars figures do not have exaggerated or stiff arms and legs as seen on some BMC & AIP figures. As for size if you compare the old PPCO “Vietnam War” GIs to any of the modern makers; Mars, TSSD, Conte, Paragon, Expendiary Forces etc… they will be smaller. The new figures being made are closer to 58-60mm in scale. The NVA are selling very well.

  16. Erwin says:

The TM officer in photo above is very close to MARS .
TM vietnam era soldiers are 60/65mm
Again today scale is in big range even x new Russian lines.
AIP quality depend in set made.
Some are odd wile others more realistic.
But is a personal opinion of course. …
    Best…
