Great news! Been waiting for these. They will go great with the Chinese for a “Pork Chop Hill” set up, or a number of others. Any update on the other upcomming Korean War sets?

  2. Don Perkins says:

Hooray! I really like that light brown color. And I like the poses. And I like those winter uniforms. And the detailed sculpting looks great. I’m heading over to the CTS site right now to place my order.

Combined with the previously-released CTS Chinese Communists, I’m almost as excited as I was when Richard Conte released his amazing Spartans (many years back).

  3. Erwin says:

    Great!!!!
Some may well used as WW2 soviets too.
Hope seen then this weekend at show…:-)

    • Don Perkins says:

I bet you do see them at the show. The figures are presently in Massachusetts. CTS just has to get a few cases through half of Mass., through Rhode Island and Connecticut, around New York City, and into the upper half of New Jersey to the Farleigh Dickenson campus.

      In any event, have fun!

  4. Jim Mc Gough says:

Thanks for the encouraging words-Don, Bobby and Erwin. We are rushing some to Matt at the Hobby Bunker so he can bring them to the show.

      Jim
Keep up the great work. I have had a lot of fun with the WW2 G.I.’s and Germans you made a few years ago. Your figures keep getting better and better. Thanks for doing these figures of the “Forgotten War”. I never thought anyone would do them. I remember in the past talking to others about hoping someone would do some Korean War figures. Many were of the same mind in wanting them, but to all of us it seemed like it would never happen. I even remember being told by a few people to use MARX and Airfix Japanese as the Chinese and NKPA, but to me that would be like telling someone to use MARX Civil War figures as extra troops for their Revolutionary War battles, it just wouldn’t look right. So, thank you for being willing to make these figures.
I plan on ordering some of the North Koreans next week.

  5. Jack Gibbons says:

    Jim,

They look good. I am in for a few sets.

Any hints on the Marx set? Does remade mean reissue? Or are these going to be like the recent FFL and Arabs? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • admin says:

The Marx figure Jim is talking about are remade, These are new molds that CTS is having made in Mexico like the Foreign Legion.

  6. Don Perkins says:

The CTS North Koreans were worth the wait, although the constant postponement of the arrival date was disappointing at the time. Now that the figures are actually here, I feel better.

But I notice the same thing is happening on the TSSD Vietnam Playset, the latest news of which is that it is now “projected” to be around the “middle of November”. In other words, the set went from being projected in early September, to mid-September, to late September, to early October, to mid-October, to late October, and now to mid-November.

Having been in Production Control with several large manufacturers for many years, I have seen all this before. Eventually you learn to be very conservative in your projected “promise dates”.

    • Erwin says:

Is a hard to sale market x too few and cost is a lot to invest.
Caution, time in back and for production responses (specially w is made abroad) take a long time and many unexpected delaids.
Hat new two future sets are in kick bid production since 2015 early.Still not out.
I rather preffer heard not mention a word that one small comment as will bring out anxiety and frustation and may take years or never.
I like surprise best. But once a roll is drop and start rolling things happen.
      My thoughts…

Just got mine in the mail and opened them for the first look. First impressions? Excellent. Thinking will only get better with time. Kudos to TSC.

I think there are definitepossibilities for Soviet troops – Mongolians for sure – really nothing stopping me from using them as Viet Cong if I want to… my war… LOL

    • admin says:

Great idea on the usng the Chinese in WWII

    • Andy says:

Agree with you on versatile use of figures vs. strict historical accuracy. Some of my CSA have US markings & even have Barzso pirates for a CSA cannon crew. Like you say, it’s MY war. No inspectors have been here yet to shut me down… 🙂 I think I prefer CSA because I can use just about any figure for a Rebel guerrilla. Even have some ECW Replicants mixed in the ranks.

  8. Clarence Causey says:

…agree with Andy/Wayne/Admin: my all time favorite play set is the Marx Desert Fox, which is far from accurate. But having memories of it from 1972, nothing else will do; still love the old ’41” and German “351” tanks…

  9. Andy says:

Got CTS printed Christmas catalogue today. Looks like new re-made Marx set will be 60mm Rin Tin Tin type cavalry with two new mounted poses (not pictured) for a ten figure set in light or medium blue at $32.95 with 4 horses. New figures are “slightly smaller (than 60mm) and closer in size to 54mm figures”. Eager to see two new mounted poses.

  10. Don Perkins says:

I’m glad to hear it. I think it’s needed. I’ve got about 30 of the originals (all in metallic blue), and one other set of the Stengel reissues in dark blue from a few years back.

But I think I’d like a set of these new ones in light blue and a set in medium blue.

I’ve been checking the CTS site daily, since the “new Marx product” was supposed to be in last week. But so far, nothing.

I also like the idea of two new mounted poses. One nice thing about modern producers like CTS, TSSD, LOD, AIP, Austin Min., and Paragon is that they are toy soldier collectors themselves, and so they tend to on the same wavelength as the other adult members of the hobby. What they tend to like, the rest of us also tend to like. When they have an idea for a product, it’s usually one which is very appealing to many of the rest of us.

    • Don Perkins says:

I wonder, however, since the original 60mm molds have been located, and reissues have been made from them, why CTS didn’t simply reissue from the original molds, but in new colors — like tan or light blue?

      Maybe Jim McGough will comment.

      • Erwin says:

        Don.
I belive the US Cavalry mold 60 mm Marx is from Rado molds that were in HK .
Long ago reissue and brough via and English dealer first .
Who resold here to ATS,TSC,RICk Bracamontes and few other dealers
That molds as well others such ACW,Dough boys, skin indians and cowboys plus few others were still in that company hands back then still.
Rado factory do not produce x years and most was moved to mainland China as far was last heard.
ADMIN may correct me if im wrong or not.
        Best….

      • admin says:

The mold’s location may be known, but dealing with the owner of the mold may be dificult for a variety reasons. CTS had that problem before with the Marx Union. they could not get a deal with Dinamicos so they purchases some cavities Glencoe models had and had new ones produced. One of the difference was to make the Confederate standing rifle straight instead of down.

        • erwin says:

Is true. Most MOLD owner are not interested at all in running then as required cleaning machinery ,hand x jobs else ,if willing to sale they want all x a lo money or nothing in most cases. Few out there are willing to spend so much in few mold that will need to spend a lot after ;then clean ,get machinery ,hire people to do job put to produce after. No profit after so much.
The recast version made in MEXICO in short run are the best bet .Those reissues batches long done ago are still around from few dealers.
ATS still carry some reissues RADO-EX Marx mold sets from early 90s as well the ICARUS English reissues from few of old Cherliea, Charben and Lone Star saved molds back them.

  11. Andy says:

$28.95 just figures; $32.95 with 4 horses. You can call Dave Payne at (913) 451-9458 to order. I like the smaller size. Wish they made them in gray. May get light blue set.

  12. Wayne W says:

    Nice news.

  13. Wayne W says:

I’m thinking a slightly smaller version of the old Rin-Tin-Tin guys might fit in better with some of the more recent lines of cavalry figures; the 60mm could still be produced depending on demand for them in the larger size – the best of both worlds IMHO. I’ve been hoping there would be a re-issue of the 60mm guys at a reasonable price but if (not doubting – the hypothetical “if”) these are a bit smaller and more compatible with the rest of the collection and the quoted price isn’t out of reach, I think I’d go for these. not saying I wouldn’t pop for true 60mm guys later…

  14. Carl Cwiklinski says:

Got mine. Superb. They are a slightly different tan than the CTS Red Chinese. That’s good to distinguish them, but it’s a close enough color that they mix well. Need Winter GIs.

  15. Bobby G. Moore says:

Got mine. Great figures. Can’t wait to set them up with the Chinese against some CTS G.I.’s, TSSD winter G.I.’s, and some of the MARX Marines. Look forward to the rest of the series.

Any news about the next CTS Korean War figure set? Also, I am wanting to find a set of the CTS Hedgerows/Bocage. Did anyone get a set of these? How are the Hedgerows? Anyone know where I can get a set of these?

The chinese can be used as World War Two Russians can the North Koreans be used as World War Two Russians?
