CTS also stocking up on AIP Foreign Legion figures & have an FFL playset, fort & accessories listed. Was there something other than the release of Mexican Marx Arab copies that stimulated this sudden interest in FFL like a FFL movie or anniversary or something?? There has been a variety of really nice Foreign Legion figures by other companies that did not ever seem to garner much attention. Toy Soldier Company and ATS, for examples, have a selection of FFL figures that seem as nice as these. DSG has Britains mounted and foot recasts that are fabulous as are Conte FFL products. If I had an old Marx Foreign Legion playset, I’d be after all of these other figures to build up my forces as well as the multicolored current copies.

  3. Tom Black says:

Conte FFL probably will not be in scale to these remade Marx FFL.

    • erwin says:

Yes they are not at all, CONTE FFL are one of smaller they did in 54 mm or close.MARX recast made FFL are from base to top hat in standing pose 62mm and body volume more big.
Pretty much same goes for AIP.
When I list the Marx recast Arabs I sold .I place picture with photos next to compatible scales and not compatible scales brand poses x every one to see in this forum thanks to admin.

MARX Arabs recast have more compatible poses match than FFL
      LIKE
Marx original, Lone star afghans ,remasa reissue Arabs and some vintage not reissues are compatible.

Following arabs are not compatible in scale, high and body mass volume.
AIP,CONTE,BRITAIN,TIMPO,TSD Argentina variation and smaller vintage such Crescent ..others

IN MARX RECAST FFL made in Mexico
Only Oliver reissues and original Marx are true match in market now.
if want use any vintages in modern FFL uniform swopped TIMPO57/58 mm ARE close and COFALU ,STARLUX too

Following brands do not match in high, scale or body mass count at all.
Timpo solid reissues, britain,AIP,CONTE ,tsd Argentina variation of Britain and Crescent reissues plus other 54 mm vintage.
I already did compere and I’m a very miss match in scales ,so unless you do not really care you can do it of course but I’m giving you accurate measures from figures as far I did with my samples.
      Best regards.

I was lucky enough to get a full set of the Marx FFL figures from a “antiques and collectibles” dealer many years ago for a really good price. There were 16 figures in all 11 poses in light blue and silver. I guess they came from a header card set. But I only have 3 of the Arabs. I also have the camel. However Timpo FFl and Arabs do make good additions as I have those. The FFL are in a nice tan, but the Arabs are in white and purple. The white are nice. I also have one set of the Conte Arabs. They are a tad smaller, but work for me. I have always liked that era because of the old Captain Gallant TV show.

  5. Andy says:

    Sorry – I mean Erwin.

    • Erwin says:

      WOW!
      Thank you Andy.:-)
      I will bid soon!!! 🙂 🙂
I can buy a real good boat to cruise in the osean w that price.
Is ebay a joke price place now?

      • Andy says:

That’s funny!!! You could buy a REAL boat for the price. YOY!!
Something else I really “enjoy” on eBay is all the damaged figures from MPC or whatever unknown companies listed as “very rare Marx” for high prices. Any junk plastic toy must be Marx and worth a fortune.

  6. Erwin says:

Any one looking x original Marx FFL figures I got two lots x deal price now…
    On my ebay.
    sellss1

  7. Don Perkins says:

Erwin, although I’ve got my hotel reservations made for two nights at OTSN, it is still not 100% certain that I’m going to attend, due to a few personal considerations.

But in answer to your inquiry about what original Marx Cpt. Gallant Arabs would now be selling for, permit me to state:

    1. At the Indiana Show in April (now re-named “The Midwest Toy Soldier Show”), $20 -$25 per figure was the only price I saw, and that was across three different dealers;

    2. At the Michigan Show in July, however, I found 2 dealers from Ohio (one was Larry Lovely, and the other was either Todd Nace (or the other Ohio dealer set up next to Todd — I can’t remember which), both of whom who had between them about 20 Arab figures). When I asked their price, each hesitated and acted uncertain, and I offered $15.00 per figure, and both immediately accepted. I ended up with 14 Arab figures, including 3 shooters and 3 riders, and at least 1 of every other pose.

    3. I now have 11 of the figures in silver (more than a mold shot), and 3 in red-brown. I want to now assemble a mold shot in the red-brown color, and at Chicago my plan is to find them and then to offer $15.00 per figure, once again. I’ll see if I’m lucky enough to find someone once again to sell them at that price.

    4. My feeling is that since the demand for Marx figures and soft plastic toy soldiers in general is slowly declining, that in a few years, as more and more collectors at my age (65) retire, die, or just quit accumulating more figures, the price of these original Marx Arab figures will continue to decrease — maybe even to $10.00 a figure. So I think I’m being fair to offer $15.00 per figure now, especially when I’m offering to buy several at the same time. Assuming I get to Chicago, we’ll see if any of the current dealers agree with me, or if they just think I’ve gone nuts, and invite me to go jump into Lake Michigan, a few miles to the east.

    • ed borris says:

Quite a few miles to the east, probably between 18 – 20 miles.

      • erwin says:

yes last time I went I stay in Chicago hotel two blocks from Lake ,nice view, then took train to Shamburg and walk from Small station to hotel, very short walk.
First time I drove and those road to Chicago downtown are a pain unless you drive very late at night.so darm jam traffic I spend there for few days. Will never forget!!

        • ed borris says:

Yes, Chicago traffic sucks, and it’s worse now because it’s summer and summer is construction time. Fortunately for me Schaumburg is about 20 minutes away from me and I don’t have to take the expressway to get there. Interesting, I have lived in the Chicago area my whole life and have never stayed in a hotel downtown.

  8. erwin says:

Don,thank you x your prompt response.
Base in your look . I know you look well at shows and prices and you are the right person to ask.
I agree and thanks/appreciate your info.
My observation was base from 2013 last show I went(Hackensack) to eBay and other web site sales.
I barely go to shows x time and else.
I’m with two cell smart phones and one laptop all time typing and driving doing reports and many time with phone languages set in different languages, my brain got all mess /mix and not even time to myself. I do respond many from my job time and at road/field in this forum..

Any how ;I see that I notice same and base in your report looks like they are going down .
Of course some will always died with the old price ,but as you said, time, age ,money and recycling of vintage plus eBay is lowering prices fast.
Now these recast probably are increasing the devaluation too…
Best deals are lot as you said and I guess you can lower next time if intended to buy more or other vintage in deal big lots or else.
What those sellers did was correct.
Shows should be places x negotiating prices deals in lot figures/else I think, is the fun and happiness of those buying and I guess move the items X sellers too
When I see these sellers seating in tables and not selling because do not want to go down one dollar during 7 hours I have to laugh at the end of day because is their fault.
I know is hard to sale ,but think about how long more those figures will seat w you if they do not move out!?
Of course they are others who abuse ,but is the choice of seller to said not or do a counteroffer.
Generally I do offers sales in eBay and most time sale when offered, some times not because are way too low ,like less half price and even those asking x free shipping plus half price listed. I consider those very scum buyers ,even I could sale x that, just x respect is not good get that offer. Specially when seller know what is selling.
But again is my opinion ,base in my experience and I respect that of others.
    for me is my sales.
Once again, thank you x sharing your price observation good report and responding.
    great help!!
    Best regards..

  10. Bill Nevins says:

Andy, I miss seeing Bill Hamilton at the Hackensack show. It was one of the things that I most looked forward too. RIP my friend.

  11. ed borris says:

At the Lafayette show I was selling the Arabs for 20 and the FFL for 10. I believe Don bought one from me too.

  12. Erwin says:

    wow!
    I’m cheap then.
I guess I have to rise prices

  13. ed borris says:

    I sold them all too.

    • erwin says:

awesome you did, I wish I could near those shows…
I had sold most when selling the Arabs, had kept some x some special commission work and of FFL too.
FFL-Now only two small x sale ,but one is just marching plus charter, other just few poses in mix colors .
Arabs usually are better sale no matter price, should be because more action dynamic poses and generic against other enemies forces, wile FFL are only two shooting one giving hug w rifle and other with sword over head.
oh- I forgot the officer teaching how to pull a revolver with out shoot forward
      safety first!!!

I was out on the Internet checking to see if any dealers had Black Friday sales; having no luck with that, I checked CTS and just saw the Remade Marx Playset the CTS is offering. Next thing was to check back here and see remarks about these Remade Marx FFL which came out in August!

Even though I am way behind in checking on these, I appreciate the information this forum has! Erwin seems always to have good descriptions with the figure sizes which help me out as to whether I will order any. I also enjoy Erwin’s humorous descriptions! I appreciate the picture as well.

After I had ordered the Arab sets from Erwin and CTS, I found one of the original Marx camels and a king from the Marx Nativity Set on ebay and purchased it for not too much back in July. You can’t beat having both the original camel in cream and the new made Mexico manufactured camel from Erwin side by side for comparisons.

The personal inspection, photos, and forum comments help me to know that these figures will run large for most of my other FFL/Arab figures, but they are very nice to look at.

Thanks to Jim of CTS for carrying these new-made copies of the old favorite Classic Marx products from Mexico. I will probably order a set in blue. Money is tight so it’s hard to look and not buy anything, but I think I can squeeze one set out of the budget!

Also, I was looking back at last year’s purchases from last year, trying to get caught up with my personal bookkeeping on Quicken and saw my purchase from STAD’s of most of a Marx Tin Litho FFL fort back in August of 2015. I was very happy with the purchase and I hope I remembered to give you great feedback, Mr. Moderator!
