Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review

Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review, this show is the last major toy show of the summer for me. I have mentioned before this was the first toy show I attended. I did the show with my father. We drove over when the show was in with the antique cars.  The show over the years has expanded  and has contracted.   It has given me many pleasant experiences.

Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review Past History

The toy show is two days. The first day the dealers set up  in a parking lot above the school where the toy show is held on Saturday.  Over the years outside show has move around. At one time it was closer to the school then it was moved to a field across from the school. When the field was purchased by a  church and they move the outside dealers to another location several miles away. This was a disaster and lost many of the vendors.

The new location is fine.  There is parking for buyers (the show calls them spectators.) You have to hike over to the show.  There you will find that most of the dealers will be under tents.

Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review Day One

Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review

As the show is close to me (only 8 miles) I did not rush to be there early. By the time I got there most of the dealers were set up. I started my search and my first stop was at my good friend Mike Russo. Mike was the owner of Stockade Miniatures which he closed last year. He had a wide variety of items, metal plastic figures and other toys.  Mike had for sale a Remco Big Caesar.  Years ago this would have been the first item off the shelf. The Big Caesar  sat and Mike took it home.  I found from Mike two vehicles for resale but no figures I could use or for resale. I headed on.

Along the way I saw many familiar faces that I have known for years from the hobby. Bob D’Angelo  was looking for Disney figures. Bob makes the visit from New York every year.  Another person I saw was Tom Stine, Tom has started to collect the Max six inch monsters.  I stopped and talked to Dean Klein, a toy dealer I know for years. Years ago he did a Lipitor commercial.

Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review Going Down the Hill

Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review

One of the negatives of the show is the outside dealers are on a hill.  So it is fine walking down. The walk back up is a pain.  Still you do it as you never know what you might find, Down toward the bottom of the hill we came to our very good friend Gerry Watts.  Gerry had a wide range of toys for sale. One item of interest he had was a Ramar of the Jungle chimpanzee in the box.  Gerry said he had to explain the show to people.  Our other good friend Chris Lamont was late in coming as his car’s battery died.

Across from Gerry was Steve Savino of Toy Hunter fame. Steve had a wide range of toys for sale. He sold a Hall of  Justice among other items.  I did not get much on Friday  just a Processed Plastic 2 1/2 Truck, Timpo Bren gun and space car. For Laurie I missed a tin litho car she like.  I left the show around  10AM and stop off at the post office.

Das Awkscht Fescht August 2016 A Review Day Two

The next day I was up at 6:00AM but did not rush to get to the show.  In years past I would have been there before dark with a flashlight. The show has lost its magic.  I arrived at the show and stop at Mike Russo’s booth. He had found another Processed Plastic truck which I bought.  I did not see any of the new dealers had so I walked back to talk to Gerry, Chris and Steve.  I was waiting for the inside building to open.

The inside building has mostly dealers of automotive items. Still there was plastic to be had. I got a Marx 7th Cavalry figure for $1.50. Carey had gotten some figures mounted Civil war figures.  Another dealer had parts of Marx Rifleman Ranch Playset. The prices were high $10.00 each for a steer.  The same dealer had a Mark from Rifleman for $60.00.

I saw a few friends to talk to. Bob D’Angelo got a Disneykin box in unusual packaging.  It was in bag with a Toy Shop header card.  I picked up a few other items before heading up the hill.  Gerry found some more tin cars for Laurie.  Over all I was pleased with the day.

I wonder why the Big Caesar didn’t sell. Did you think his price was too high? Were there too few buyers? Or was it just a fluke?

I also wonder where the dealer with parts of the Marx Rifleman Ranch Playset got his price of $10.00 for a steer. I’ve purchased approx. 15 Old Snorter steers in the past year and a half, in flat tan, cream, brown, and black. I’ve paid as little as $2.00 each for a couple of them, and $3.00 each for 2 or 3 more, and $4.00 each for the rest, the majority of them. I passed on the ones where the asking price was $5.00, but I’ve never seen anyone (at Indiana, Michigan, or Chicago) asking $10.00 each. I think Rick Eber’s show price is $5.00 each.

I took an partial complete (no box-no figures) (BIG C ) ship to Hackensack once, put it x $125.00 did not sold , but a person come and offer me $40.00 x the just the mast. I sold it as was thinking used x else or sold as is later.
Took it back and sold on eBay quick after with out one mast x $100.00
I had seen many listed on eBay x long not sold in less quality or much better price range from 75.00 to 400 .00
Right now there one loose ship listed with out most pieces and few oars ,not mast x $9.99 ,any one that like x repair else could get it ,is been there x 3er time listed.
It all depend in specific person interested x the era ,scene and if like the toy type ship as not too realistic x his like. Few want it in almost mint condition or too complete but want paid few$ x it…
Also the proper moment x it.
Now I also notice an overpopulation of Marx FFL and Arabs vintage sales. The prices are getting lower too because of it, wile few years back were hard to find or much higher in many places but main toy shows.
I had notice a lower sales in old vintage wile a lot recycling around.
I too see a lot not true connoisseurs of toy value listing items x mediocre prices and creating false inflation ideas to others that follow and do same..
This could be easy see easy in some eBay ignorant sellers.
Again my observation base in my experience.

      • Erwin says:

Andy. That person is selling that since 2013.I also remember he has several high museum sales too that we have see here and posted x fun…
I think he list it to show then x images. But to be honest I think he read our comments.LOL

        • Erwin says:

And still buyer has to paid shipping.Wonder if free shipping would be a minor teasing selling tip to attract buyers..:-) 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

        • Andy says:

This person HAS to be NUTS!!!! Should be due for his $25,000 Suzie Goose Store soon. Why waste money to list this stuff?

          • Erwin says:

He does x years.we already post his Goose store here last year.
Still he had sake some for few houndred.
He most be toy hunter cousing.
            I forgot that guy name.
Well mabe is a she seller!?
            I do not know.
What im surprise is that is risking any sales.
Any buyer using today ebay protection case could get it x free and he get scam.
The new eBay buying protection had brough over 1 million in losses x sellers in past 5 years.
It is redicolus what are doing.
Is scam as ebay used several insurance to cover them self .
            It only hurt sellers.
Number one hurt are ebay motors according to report.

          • Erwin says:

Yes he is ebay joker number one in toys…I agree…
I never check if that poor lady ever sold her playset deal lot she list about a year ago and we skin off here…

      • admin says:

I look at this seller and he has accepted best offers. Some people just like to show their collection.

        • Erwin says:

Definettel there some no want seller.
The ideal anzio landing ship is listed x two years least.
Brian J send me the same link about that long ago.And I guess was x same or near price still has now.
Still the price in it x rarity of condition in Anzio invader almost complete is not high in my opinion.
On the BC went insane ….
These are type seller creating false price inflation x few others that do not know about prices and go to show.

  3. Don Perkins says:

Sometimes you just have to have the right buyer pass by, i.e., the one person who happens to be looking for that specific item. You don’t always get that at a small to middling size show.

  4. ed borris says:

I remember as a kid one of the neighborhood guys got a Big Caesar for Xmas and I wanted to check it out, but he wasn’t interested in it all, he said he hated it. If I had to guess I’d say it was all those marching figures that turned him off.

    • Erwin says:

I mean do not get me wrong .I’m still have 3 left of the ship x my battles w viking 4 jean hoefler ships..Plus one each of romans ,35 mm(figures only as collection samples)
Yes .I’m wonder whose idea was to feel a ship w marching roman and chariot plus horse. No a typical sea force I guess.
Hoewever the figures are indeed direct copy of german 1900s lead Shniffer brand figures that were made x castle made composition and wood.
      🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  5. Don Perkins says:

Ed, will you and Mike be bringing any marching figures to OTSN next month? I’m sure that’s what everybody will be looking for. Collectors will be beating a path to your door.

  6. ed borris says:

Just got are room number today 503, next to TSSD. Yes, of course I will be bringing Marchers and Aprils too. Leaving all the Mays at home.

  7. ed borris says:

    Oops, our.

  8. Don Perkins says:

I’m starting to think Admin’s theory is correct on the guy with all the great MIB boxed toys who asks outrageous prices for them: He’s showing off his collection, saying I’m not really trying to sell them, but if someone out there is willing to to pay me an arm and a leg, then I’ll consider it.

In “American Pickers”, Mike calls these kinds of prices the “I don’t want to sell it price”. Unless someone is willing to pay it to me, of course.

  9. ed borris says:

Dang, room number is 5203, I screwed everything up. We’ll also be downstairs with the big boys for the show. Visit us often and bring a lot of money.
