Jescan Western Wagons Jail Wagon Medicine Show Wagon

Jescan Western Wagons Jail Wagon Medicine Show Wagon  are just two of the wagon done by Jescan. As  mention by our very good friend Erwin Sell, Jescan did 10 different wagons.  These included a stage coach. a water wagon and a jail wagon. There are two different covered wagons: one with a open top. The other is wagon with two wheels and a detachable roof. This wagon has a woman driver, which I have never seen before. For the military, there is a military wagon and caisson with cannon.

According to Erwin the wagons are in scale to match Jescan’s 65 to 70mm figures.  The horses run smaller as if they were to be used with 54 to 60mm figures.

First of all we will look at Jescan’s medicine show wagon.  The wagon is titled Doc-Dentist Elixir.

The wagon has a small stand for the good doctor to stand on and sell his goods. As far as I know Jescan did not make a doctor.

Finally we have the Jescan box. The box has a nice  background of a building. The same box was used with other wagons.

Lastly Andy has sent up a photo of the Jescan jail wagon mint in the box.  Jail wagon were an important part of the west used to transport prisoners from one location to another.  You can see an example of one in the movie Hang ‘Em High. Jail wagons have been by Timpo and Starlux. China copied the Timpo wagon.

Hard plastic driver for Jecsan “Doctor – Dentist Elixer” Wagon, as well as tree & cactus accessories, are around here somewhere. I got this sealed in box. Driver was (in my opinion) fairly “junky” & more suited to mounting on a horse vs. driving a wagon. He was shooting off to the side. Tree & cactus sort of flat & 2 dimensional. Wagons and boxes are great but figures & scenery left something to be desired. BEST jail wagon I’ve personally ever seen was made by Larry Patterson when he had P & P Products up & running. I have one in my cabinet that I will dig out, text pictures to Erwin & ask him to forward it in good computer format. Erwin is a good guy & hasn’t gotten sick of this “job” yet. Erwin, I’m officially appointing you as “Minister of Photography”.

Ok to not bother admin with too many pic I will just give some tips,
for those will like to see Jecsan western towns with SOME carriages ,stagecoach and wagons done ….
Several Spaniards collectors have done videos and post in you tube for all to see.
Juan Hermia and Martin are one of many doing posting these videos, others are 60’s recollection of TV toys commercial that Jecsan,COMANSI and few others did .
Jecsan first western building consist of 8 original wood(similar to elastolin/german brand style western building made) and 4 original western wood carriage with plastic horses and firs line of sets western figures.
soon after a line of 6 new buildings and all plastic carriages/wagons start coming out .
Few videos have the wood building wile others have the plastic.
Jecsaramas line was the western most popular international exported line .
It end with the hard to get and limited run last series of Jecsan western swopped 70 mm cowboys and Indians often sold individual of which I own several mint .
Not much detail but very alike in scale and style to Cherliea ,Nardi western swopped line.
A huge western train was made x western ,it was also made w modification to be used as WW2 train for Japanese,Germans and others .
Jecsan did a Sherman realistic plastic 1.30 scale tank with long barrel as well others tank and US trucks x WW2.By 70’s the line were sold as (Cazcos Azules) =Blue helmet to commercialize outside as generic using the Japanese, US ,British, Germans soldiers nice sets they did with helmets painted in blue contrary to original WW2 sets painted.
I could go on but will go off Western.
here are some links for western videos in you tube and I will post titles in last x you guys to google.
voices are in Spanish, noice of shooting and action in” international commands”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtS8qOIUcsk

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nB8bOKyWsM

    names ARE (Jecsan )
    and (Jecsan city)
in you tube, from it once u open you will be able google more ,if using Spaniards words will get much more of course such COMANSI FUERTES,REAMSA SOLDADOS or REAMSA JUGETES
    Enjoy!!

  3. Bill Nevins says:

Where do you place today’s modern Western figures? Are they 54 mm or 60 mm?
I’m talking about Austin, TSSD, New Ray, Paragon, and Conte?

Which display would you use them in 60 mm or 54 mm?

    • admin says:

Austin, TSSD, New Ray and Conte are more 60mm in my book

      • Erwin says:

In fact counting w bases Austin ,New ray are over 65 mm in many figures.
        I had not check others
But is hard to get them any were near traditional 54 mm .
But again we can.play along a lot.
The best plastic building x true 54 mm line western are Timpo,Lone star ,Britain and two Hong kong western town set of houses.Same in carriages w Marx as well.
        Playmobil could be used too.
Comansi, jecsan.plasty, hausser, nardi, reamsa ,jean hoefler and Dulcop plastic buildings and carriage were made for the 60 to 70 mm range scale.
Yet I had been able to place above brand items w 54mm scale figures too …it all depend in how specific I want to be.

  4. ed borris says:

Yeah the Austin figures have a base about a 1/4 inch thick. The tallest of them not counting the base is about 2 1/2 inches tall. I used the prototypes for my measurements. I measured a Marx Mexican and he is about 2 1/4 inch in height not counting the base, the base doesn’t add much to their height, I would say less than 1/8 of an inch. I also measure a Marx 60mm cavalry pose and he is about 2 1/2 inches tall not measuring the base. The base on the cavalry figures appears to be slightly thicker than that of the Marx Mexican. I placed the Austin Clint Eastwood figure, next the Marx cowboy bandit wit the strongbox and Clint’s gun rests on the top of the Marx figures head. Clint is about a head taller not counting the bases.

  5. ed borris says:

Just to clarify my measurements were done with a tape measure and with a side by side comparison, I do not have the proper tool for 100% dead on balls accurate measurement.

  6. erwin says:

Ed,I use all time this simple tool
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-Mini-6Inch-150mm-Plastic-Sliding-Vernier-Caliper-Gauge-Measure-Tool-Ruler-/271851649489?hash=item3f4b9ef9d1:g:-~UAAOSwstxVLY4D
Either x eyes high measure, head high or base to to figure high measurement way ,give you the mm and inches correct way. The figure could get hold easy between or if like add a metal pin to top tooth to hold figure(of course will have puncture it a bit)

  7. ed borris says:

I don’t have one of those and I’m not going to buy one either. I just did the measurements out of curiosity, the difference in size doesn’t bug me much. People are different heights in real life, so why not in the toy soldier world? The only thing that bothers me somewhat is if the weapons are huge on one figure and tiny on another. Otherwise damn the torpedo’s full speed ahead.

  8. Erwin says:

    Yep.I said so too before
Scales are never an issue to me …

  9. Mark McNamara says:

Nice Wagons, thanks again Erwin for contributing !

  10. Erwin says:

    Thanks Mark….
But we should thank first Andy x showing a mint case wagon.
Hard to get.I had only few and not mint.
In fact Andys is first edition.
Also admin to let see all this here.
    I just pass info as I recollect…
Admin. Not ,Jecsan did not a Dr.
But they did a chinese rare cooker(hard to get) and a western civilian business man w a tall hat that looks like Lincoln.
Wonder why never used as such!?.Both figures are from Bonanza series cases.
Jecsan cannon from military caisson carriage shoot bullets too and was well designed. It was painted as Union and Confederated version and sold w the soldiers of such armies made by company inside case.
