Updates Plus Some Other Stuff July 2016 Plasty Chuck Wagon

Updates Plus Some Other Stuff July 2016Our very good friend Markus Leckscheid has share some photos  of the Plasty Chuck Wagon in the box.  From the box it seems that Plasty had a relationship with Airfix.

Updates Plus Some Other Stuff July 2016This close-up shows one item that is usually missing the wagon a pig roasted on spit. This piece naturally would not be kept on the wagon.  Markus noted he had one as a child and he lost several pieces very quickly.

Updates Plus Some Other Stuff July 2016Markus shared with us also a photo of Plasty cannon in the box.  The box has its old price tag. Back then it sol d for 10.50 marks or about $3.50. He wished he could buy more at that old price.

Updates Plus Some Other Stuff July 2016

Here are photos of the most recent project of Michael Purchase, up in Hamilton, Ontario, just outside Toronto.
They are 40 MM Elastolin, Marten, and Starlux.  Every single figure has been converted and repainted.
The group is meant to represent the English forces of the Black Prince, at the Battle of Crecy, in the year 1346 in northern France, in the Hundred Year’s War.

Updates Plus Some Other Stuff July 2016 Figure Release News

We have heard from several sources that Expeditionary Forces will be coming out with the British forces to compete with  their Zulus. These figures will be out some time next month.

The long awaited Mars Vietnam Marines are suppose to be out next week. The figures should go well with the TSSD Vietnam figures that will be out in September.

Updates Plus Some Other Stuff July 2016 Sand Diego Comic Con

So far the news from San Diego has been quiet on the figure front. So far I have only turned up one interest item and it is not really new. Last year, I had seen a company selling a large size figure of the MPC Wookie type figure.  I now know who made it DKE Toys.  They took the MPC figure and replaced the rifle with a guitar.  The figure is called Star Rockers. The figure retails for $39.00! You cane it at this link from Action Figure Insider .

Also, Playset Magazine is taking pre orders on their new “Fort Apache DVD, ninety minutes long with some “surprises”. Should be available in about three weeks.
TSSSD has new photos up of additional Viet Nam sculpts and they say that three different kinds of U..S and Viet Nsmese weapons will be in the bagged figure sets.

  2. ed borris says:

Speaking of that DVD I have a part in it, not sure what he did since I wasn’t actually there in person, but he say’s I’m in it.

  3. Bill Nevins says:

I have the Blue and Gray DVD and I enjoy it very much.
Except for the part where some creepy old dudes lurk around smelling 1950’s “air”.

That’s just too weird for me.

I am looking forward to the Fort Apache DVD.

  4. Don Perkins says:

Yes, the old guy acting silly on Playset Magazine’s early DVDs was a distraction that added absolutely nothing to the video experience. Fortunately, he no longer appears, and Rusty’s latest DVDs are the better for it. I’m looking forward to the new Fort Apache DVD.

  5. ed borris says:

Who was the old guy, I never saw that video.

  6. Paul Gruendler says:

The late Mike Jordan was the guy in those earlier Atomic Video minor masterpieces.

  7. ed borris says:

    Okay, thanks.

  8. Bill Nevins says:

That’s not what I was talking about, anyway. In the B&G video, a bunch of guys are watching Rick Eber open up a sealed B&G set. When he opens up some playset bags, they all gather around and start smelling the air from the now opened bags.

That’s a scene that should have been left on the cutting room floor.

  9. Mark McNamara says:

    Lot of nice stuff !

  10. ed borris says:

    Bill,

I was there for that one, it’s not the air so much as it is the smell of new clean plastic. Sort of brings back those chilhood memories of opening a set on Christmas morning with the new sights and smells. A nostalgic return to childhood if you will. You have to remember that it’s been 50+ years since any of those guys opened a new Marx play set and they may never get to open or witness the opening of one again. While I agree it lookand sounds a bit strange, I can understand.

    • Don Perkins says:

Yeah, I was there too, and I agree with Ed. Someone made an comment about “breathing 1950s air”, but that was just an off-hand joke. The real focus was simply that opening a MIB Marx set at OTSN replicated the sights, the sounds, the excitement, and even the “new plastic” smell of the same Christmas morning experience many of us had back then.

      • Wayne W says:

There is something about the smell of the “old” “new” plastic that I find missing in some of the new plastic figures though every now and then one gets a hint of it. I guess if one never opened up a Marx playset as a kid (or didn’t pay attention when he did) it would seem strange. But there are times when a scent can make you flashback to the past – this is a good flashback.

      • admin says:

I wanted to do a joke video of a bunch of guys around a playset ready to be opened. Once it was opened everyone would sniff the air and start hacking because of all the pollution back then. I figure it was too esoteric so I never did it.

    • admin says:

      Ed
Laurie enjoys going to Plastic Warrior and smell the old plastic.

  11. ed borris says:

I have found that if you wash the vintage figures and place them in a plastic bin, like I have my 150 or so 60mm cavalry they somehow have that smell again. You don’t even have to sniff them that smell resinates as sound as I open the bin. It’s just a clear plastic contained too. Not quite sure wht that occurs, but it sure smells like those play sets that I have witnessed being opened.

  12. ed borris says:

Musty old dirty plastic makes me sneeze, so I wash all the figures I get. I also find that potential buyers prefer to look through clean shiny figures rather than stuff covered in crud.

  13. Bill Nevins says:

Hey, whatever floats your boat. I get what you mean about the smell. I recognize it.
It doesn’t mean that I want to watch a video of a bunch of guys smelling it.

    Just my opinion.

Ed, I wash all the figures I buy for myself. Who knows where they have been, or what they picked up along the way?
Especially the Fort Apache 60 mm Pioneers and Indians. I find you can really brighten these up with a bath. I rinse them off with hot water, then I let theme air dry.
After that, I rub straight dish washing liquid all over the figure, with my fingers. Really get it in the cracks. I let this sit for about 10 minutes, then I use a toothbrush to scrub the figure WITHOUT water. When I’m done, I rinse the figure under hot tap water while continuing to use the tooth brush where needed.
This works wonders on Cream figures, especially.

Anyone else have a different method?

  14. ed borris says:

I soak mine in hot soapy water overnight, then I scrub them with a soft toothbrush under warm water. Then I let them air dry, if they still look dirty I do it again and again until I’m happy. I have used 409 and plain liquid dish soap. Of the two I think the dish soap works the best. Some of the figures I have gotten over the years have been pretty crud covered to the point I barely want to touch them, if they are not damaged they usually come out looking new.

  15. Ed Connell says:

I would wash mine also, I used a q-tip and warm water, Sometimes I used tooth picks, and even dental implements to get dirt and crud out of the folds, and shave off unwanted flash, seam lines. I have even doctored figures that had gouges, lol. Sometimes if a gouge isn’t bad, you can smooth it out.
