New Pvblivs Set coming Sioux Indians Final Thoughts

The Pvblivs Sioux Indians are different than from the normal Indian figure poses we see.  I am curious on how accurate the dress on the Sioux Indians are? Sitting Bull was the spiritual leader of the Sioux  and I like how he is portrayed here that the Marx version of him. The Marx version has him more looking like a cigar store Indian. The poses are interesting and different that what you normal see.

The negative on the Pvblivs Sioux Indians are two common problems for Pvblivs type of plastic and cost. It will be interesting to see if they have corrected that problem on the plastic breaking.  The other is the cost. One of the complainants by collectors on Pvblivs is the high cost for their figure set.  From reports this set will be expensive as the other sets.  This high cost will restrict its buyers to fans of Pvblivs or people interested in Sioux Indians.

I found the sculpting very well done, the dress very accurate, but x some reason the poses remain me if Italian style sculpting classic period statues design ideals. A bit stylized!!I do not guys if is the correct word to be used-sorry
Overall nice set well done great to have .IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT of course.!!!
And lets not forget they are in the 60 mm range, not 54 mm. Medieval and knights are over 60 mm,they match well with new NONAME branded sets too.as well conte, forces of valor,EXF ,MARX 60 MM ,Dulcop and many same range.
The WW2 are a bit smaller but not quite same as EB or airfix/matchbox and Britain/marx 54 mm at all.

On plastic here is my thought base in personal experience and knowledge of type plastic.
Last big shipment from Russian again the horrible quality plastic used by Plubius did same ,5 figures arrive damage(included one in entire arm).I took pictures because my supplier over pack very well in three bubble layers all figures one by one and then made blocks of them with more protection to avoid it each set shake against each other(i could supply pictures) to be posted.
The suppliers from Russia did a great job trying to protect them, yet only that brand-Plubius sets suffer damage wile other plenty other sets from other and not in boxes shipped to me never suffer any damage at all!!
I do not blame supplier. I blame the maker of plubius for doing this.
They use in last a bit softer than before plastic, but funny enough the plastic this time has 0 smell-mean very bad quality.
I took courses in plastic/chemical and molding for Scott company and learn how the plastic process works plus different types plastic,PVC and rubber. Trust me they are using one of the worst in history ever. They claim twice are working in to get better plastic, looks they are not at all-YET!!!
From first PLASTIC used in two early Romans sets and Teutonic that was great; they change to very stiff and back again to soft but horrible quality. Adding that they not even seal-protect or box their small 6 sets figures so expensive and costly.
I demand and expect more x so high priced set and figures.
    Best regards…

As usual, some beautiful sculpts; I think they would be the kind of figures one could slip into a dio or scene to add a bit of variety and realism to the thing. One would neither need or want too many of them as they are TOO unique – for once their exorbitant price might not be a hindrance. But the price and the frailty of the plastic would make me think twice before I “played” with them. Perhaps set them up on the shelf to admire.

    • Erwin says:

Wayne no x playing at all.trust me.
Funny part they look a bit soft plastic.
I made a costly sacrifize video x you guys
Hope I can have admin post some how.
In it I play w figures and you will see what hapen.

  4. Ed Borris says:

I like the the guy throwing the spear, a nice fighting pose. However, his right leg looks awfully long. Overall they seem to be too dandied up for battle, but they are cool looking. I may even buy them just to display. I think they are one of those items where I need to hold them in my hand to evaluate properly.

    • erwin says:

ed. I agree in leg , till I see figure can not tell, looks x some reason his other leg is bend towards back given image is more short to other .Still the dress confuse a lot and I see then nice dress but too skinny acted poses, like posing.
it remain me if ISAS and and Lafredo brand Indian style poses

  5. Mark McNamara says:

All I can say is WOW ! Beautiful ! Best looking plastic Indians I ever saw ! I hope they are not brittle,Kudos to the sculptor !

  6. Mark T. says:

Oh no… Why did they have to go and make these guys? If the plastic was not too brittle I just might be forced to shell out the ridiculous price Pvblivs will ask for them.

The costumes look fairly accurate for the earlier part of Plains Indians history: The era of the Fur Trade etc. Maybe late 1700s-1850s. These figures look like they have stepped out of the paintings by George Catlin and Karl Bodmer. If you want to be historically accurate, you wouldn’t use these figures with your 1870s Little Big Horn sets.

Pose-wise, I agree with Erwin that the overly dynamic style reminds me of some of the Italian figures I have seen. Poses of 60s-70s Italian sculptors + detail of modern sculptors.

    I REALLY like these Indians.

  7. erwin says:

    With all respect Mark please…
I had see pictures/photos and movies of Buffalo Bill with Indian dress exact as that and it was after 1870’s wars, the dress looks very alike Indian of that time, some pictures portraying Indians are from reservation after or before the wars not dress as war party type.
Many Indian used their woman made war party dress only in big occasion.
Two military observers and several news paper of the time describe how well dressed were the Indian in time of the (big nations war) as they call it.
Neither Indian dress from Sioux’s nation in 1840’s till 1880 varied much or at all in most or any.
There two books made of painting too by contemporary painters who had Indian pose in same old 70’s war party dress to do portray of them and are exact as that.
NYC natural museum have a hall full of dresses/crowns and weapons of the time war too .Included real Indian made teepees assembled too.
Indian museum in NYC too have plenty actual real pictures and photos full of them as well several donated or confiscated dress and pants from Indians as well weapons.
Impressive collection by the way. I had visit it many times and clearly show exact same type war part dress.
I think are very accordingly accurate historical depicted.
    My thoughts.
    Best…

  8. Tom Black says:

Good sculpts but they have more feathers than Big Bird!

    • Erwin says:

They are the great feather tribes.:-)
Poor birds around. No wonder the one with spear is aiming so high.
I like then ,hope the extra feathers do not increase the price now!! 🙂

      • Don Perkins says:

You couldn’t help but notice the profusion of feathers. On the pose throwing a spear, the number of feathers actually looks a little freakish.

But the Sitting Bull figure and the chief in warbonnet (Crazy Horse?) are exceptionally well-done —- almost like they were sculpted by Michaelangelo.

        • ERWIN says:

Don you just nail the right Italian artist, I was giving then Italian style sculpture but could not find a name.
Yes the two are the best. May be we can take some feather off after all in others.
In my opinion Linde Indians and German brands are the best made India Sioux poses.
I love the skin Marx poses and early stockade set too ,but a bit mix Indian style. The one seating giving command with hand up remain me of so many movies.
Not my era movie but old good movies.

  9. Wayne W says:

They are beautiful, but they also appear at first glance to be more ceremonial than ready for combat. I agree with Mark they would be out of place at the Little Big Horn. Without going into a prolonged discussion of the “ins and outs” of the Little Big Horn (which I would enjoy but would take us off subject) that was pretty much a “come as you are” affair for the Indians. Many spoke of barely having enough time to slap on some war paint, much less getting dolled up in their ceremonial best.

But it wasn’t unheard of for a warrior to get “all dolled up” before a battle – particularly if he had a premonition of his death. After all, according to many tribal beliefs if you were going to meet your Maker you wanted to be in your best. Again, I wouldn’t want too many of them, but a few would dress up a scene nicely.

A glance at the guys in the smaller shot does throw you off as far as the outline with all the feathers, a closer look reveals the beauty of the sculpt. Sad, they are fragile, as Erwin points out (thanks for the tipoff) at the prices they ask I’ll have to pass.

  10. bill nevins says:

The guy throwing the spear should be in Rio, at the Olympic Javelin Toss.

    Crappy plastic
    Too expensive
    Odd poses

    NO SALE

  11. erwin says:

The Indian are on sale already.
I been informed plastic had been chance and issue of brittle plastic fix. Will have to see. Once I reorder I will tell you guys unless any body update frst here of course.
Here is one of eBay sellers selling then so far.

  12. Andy says:

Does anyone know if US dealers carry these Pvblivs Indians?

  13. Christian Aldo says:

The guy is a true artist.
The best sculpture in our hobby, hands down!

    Plastic General

  14. Len Hardt says:

Does anyone have anything to report on the “in hand” quality of these figures? What is the actual scale and how would you describe the quality of the plastic?

    • admin says:

We have not heard anything about them since the initial announcement.

    • erwin says:

I red they perfection the plastic, but I do not know as not order any more neither will x long after my experiences.
If really interested you may order direct at eBay from Russians sellers and take the risk unfortunately. Scale are about 60 mm. They claim to be 54mm ,but base in my last sets they run from base to top head from 57-64 mm scale in others. Now this is base to top, not the foot bottom to where head suppose to end or eye view. They definitely not the airfix or 54 mm Marx standard.
      Best regards..

      • Len Hardt says:

Thanks, gents. I have yet to put down the exorbitant cash necessary to own any of the figures from this company, but these have me tempted. I don’t want to put down 60$ for 6 figures only to find a bag of tiny broken pieces after I store them for 6 months.

I would LOVE to see this sculptor do a set of mountain men.

        • Len Hardt says:

FYI – I just noticed that “This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.” Curious.

          • Don Perkins says:

Len, are you setting up one of your massive dioramas at OTSN this year? Are you able to share the subject matter prior to the show?

  15. Len Hardt says:

This year we are doing something a bit different. Massive? Yes. Tons of figures? Not this time. It’s all centered around the Gary Cooper “High Noon” character figure by the master, Larry Patterson.

    • Don Perkins says:

I look forward to it, as I’m sure everyone does who has seen your previous OTSN creations.

      • Len Hardt says:

Thanks for the kind words, Don. As always, I look forward to the friendly camaraderie of like-minded collectors – not to mention the hunting – or should I say “feeding frenzy.”
