I read the article twice, searching for some hint of what scale these figures are in. Also, isn’t German blueish-grey an odd color choice for Viet Cong?

  2. erwin says:

If correct 60 mm are great x match the new generation of new production, if ever done by an American country.Sculpture is fine x me.Price is great!!!
Ironical we had to wait and see how a former Soviet country was capable of doing the north Vietnamese forces figures set (may be US too soon) before any American .
The Soviet occupation war of Afghanistan war era figures sets are a great add and another sample more that Russian toy soldiers are in the lead now above any body else.
Min colors used by uniformed NVA ,Viet Cong and militia were green,OD green, Khaki colors ,black or a mix. Rarely they used any cammo pattern , neither grey. However Vietnam museum show several soldiers in all grey uniform, after short research I found out it was supplied early and were by most reserve in training plus AA forces. So may be it is where idea come from.
So I will said the colors for those looking match standard army toy men figures is not ok looking but I guess neither for the Russian and afghans eithers, so it was just a choice for easy paint base colors mold I guess.
Mars cases of HO figures sets come with typical as airfix, revell, esci and other back showing the way figures sold be painted.
These figures set are made/produced for-to be paint purpose in general. Not for typical toy soldiers army men standards. European style.
    Two different views -choices.

    adition information.
Osprey ‘Men-at-Arms’ series; No. 143 – Armies of the Vietnam War (2).
The description of the plate, which is of an NVA regular circa 1968, describes the uniform tunic and trousers as being dark grey in colour, the illustration shows them as almost grey.

      • Don Perkins says:

Thanks for the info, Erwin. I guess that blueish-gray color isn’t completely inappropriate. I think I still would have preferred the original tan of the first NVA units.

        • erwin says:

You welcome Don. trust me I’m not trying to convince ,neither defend the color done .
I’m in your side when come to colors. I Will love see them in field green or tan-kaki too as you correct said because these guys looks very early time era.
but sometimes I try figured out the logic in company decision .
With time I had learn the way two mentality.
American pro unpainted and choice of base color as were part of main uniform and
European as to be painted(grey color is one of the best base choice color to be paint over oppose to old white traditional) .
So even I found some odd use of grey in the Viet Nam war I think that was the reason because they Did the Russian/soviet in grey that was never used in field either.
So we have to just stick with it unfortunately.
In the other side we got the ever non correct use of grey color in all dam German soldiers of ww2 done by every body-least in US before and now with all new CTS,TSSD,CONTE ; when the Marx grey color was never used by German in the field at all. But I guess one start a mistake ands not corrected ;every body else follow the line. The same goes for Marx early WW2 and others done in dark OD colors never used in WW2 .But here the new companies fix the problem .
I guess the only US firm base company doing base color correct is AIP .But now it is dormant

Some great news. Mars has really improved in both its sculpting and quality of molding apparently.

  5. Christian Aldo says:

A company should always cast their figures in a good color,
but now that I paint my figures it doesent bother me so much.
    The Viet Cong look great!
Just watch, VIETNAM is going to be a GIANT HIT for our hobby!

  6. Todd Hyer says:

These figures look fantastic and reasonably priced as well. Why can’t Pvblius offer a similar deal on their figures? Even Ex-Force is more affordable vs. Pvblius, not much more but at least you get more figures. I hope Mars continues with their improvements as these figures are a welcome addition to the hobby and do not break wallets! Thank You Mars! 18 figures for $23! Take some notes Pvblius as I would like to purchase your figures as well, but refuse until prices drop!

  7. erwin says:

What happen here is that Mars company is a long time producer of HO plastic figures x hobby painters enthusiast, same way revel, airfix ,orion, hat, italeri, etc .So they have much more money to invest and spend. with out hurt.
In the other hand PV and EB are limited run producers-one person company like .
,small business. Two different budgets, two different investment option.
Still I agree the prices have to stop increasing ,least on PV as they also have the bad quality plastic material in figure and less poses/figures per set too compare to EB too.
But the future of hobby price per set is going up quick, Expeditionary Forces set prices are up again and bet will increase more by year end. Many future production in US will increase price too.
I had noticed too a decline in price per figure in vintage value. May be do because inflation on new production among other issues.

    • Todd Hyer says:

Erwin thanks to your description of the companies, I have a better understanding. I thought that could be an explanation of the price differences. However, doesn’t PV also retail metal figures? Aren’t his plastic figures just copies of his metal figures? Does PV also professionally paint the metal figures that are sold? You could purchase the same 6 metal figures as the plastic figures for the same price, paint them up yourself and have a better investment overall. I agree with you on the prices ever increasing, just the way of things, but going from something like 12-18 figures for 25$ (TSSD, MARS, CTS, Conte, others…) to 6 figures for $50 is crazy price increase, and not to mention problems with the plastic brittleness. I appreciate all of these companies and what they are producing, just wish I had access to them.

        Todd
You can order these the Russian figures from our friend Andrew. Most U.S. dealers have chided away from carrying the figures because of the cost for them to bring them in. As to talking to the company itself, it is like hitting a ten foot thick brick wall. I have talk to the owners of various companies with very valid suggestions to be shot down. A great example of this is Call to Arms which only does four poses a box. I tried to get him to increase the number, but he will only do four poses. His excuse he lost money when did more poses.

      • erwin says:

The molds used for same metal poses in PV are not same used in plastic. Two molds . Nor all metal figures sets are done in plastic by PV-usually the last set only. I think most metal figures collectors in general are not plastic collectors and vise versa.
Two different hobby lines. I do not buy any metal ,never had.
But heard of some who does and understand it.
So again two different world prices.
The price comp presented between metal and plastic made sense, but I guess because dedicated to two collectors line unfortunately it won’t work that way in the retail mentality.
But again it goes to small person business doing limited run sets using non steel mold process.
TSSD,Conte, paragon, austin, cts,AIP,steven,LOD,new Barzso sets and others use Steel mold, now look generally space-time frame release set on those companies too. It take longer in this case too.
Wile short run release a set every other month pretty much.
Short run in my opinion is the future ,but the prices of PV went to far ahead of time so far as you said $50.00 plus shipping for 5 to 6 figures is insane x any new product. The plastic is very bad, I sold 3 sets each of latest new set and won’t carry any more as receive some damage. They sold quick in most here ,but not my line.
If super painted a $10.00 per figure price could be to top in my head of any new production release, unpainted is way too far.

  8. Wayne W says:

I went on ebay as soon as I heard and ordered them. Thanks for the update.

  9. Les White says:

Wonder why they didn’t just offer the 18 figures made up of 3 each of the 6 poses, this would have been a better use of the mould. Anyway they are very nice figure sculpts.

I agree with Erwin that the colour of plastic choice is not for the toy soldier collector but as a base for painting, the reverse of the box shows how they could be painted.

Does anyone know if the plastic is good, I’m hoping for soft rather than hard to make it easy to convert poses.

  10. Brian Johnson says:

    What is his Ebay address?

  11. erwin says:

Brian his ID on eBay is
    plastic-soldiers

  12. Erwin says:

Thanks a lot Denitz x all pitures and times.Great compare photos.
They definitely in most look more close to 60 mm than 54 mm.

  13. I am selling them at my website toysoldierhq.com and have pictures comparing the figures to a Marx 54mm GI. They look to be 54mm not 60mm.

  14. Some of the new Mars figures were harder to make due to mold issues which is why you do not get three of each of the six poses per box. The Vietcong throwing the grenade was one of those poses so each box has two of him plus one of the other five inserted at random. There was also an issue with the Mujahideen set. Some boxes have three of each pose but some do not. All of the Russian Infantry boxes I inspected have three of each pose.

    • Les White says:

I just received a box of the Soviet Infantry and the configuration is different from yours, 2 each of the 3 standing poses and 4 each of the kneeling poses.
The running pose has a lot of flash and the underside of half of the bases need flash removed before they stand. Some flash on other poses too.
So it looks like there was also and issue with this set too. It is clear that they don’t have a very good quality control department.
Just letting you know for information.
It’s a pity they couldn’t get these right as they would be a good product and fill a gap in the market.

  15. You can see them at my main page scroll down, or at my ALL OTHER CURRENT PRODUCTION page. I will be redoing the Russian Infantry page.

  16. Wayne W says:

Good news (for me, at least); I just received a shipment of all the sets – in my boxes of VC and Mujahadeen I had three sets of six poses; my Soviet Infantry had four sharpshooters and two of the guy standing with his AK pointed skyward – pretty good mix all in all. Maybe there’s hope, after all…

  17. Erwin says:

Wayne, what about the flash issue in your case.Did you notice it a lot or not?
