Simex Skin Divers Just Like Kellogg’s

Simex divers these are interesting figures that our very good friend Andreas Dittmann found in a box. These figures are design to go into a bathtub and go up and down by the addition of baking soda or some other powder.

Andreas found the divers in their original box. The box contained nine skin divers in three different colors.

The Simex divers came with packets of the tablets so you can use them right of the box.

Andreas wondered if the divers were made by an American maker. I did not recognize them off hand. I mention to Andreas about Kellogg’s skin divers, which I had in the 50’s.

Do you recognize them?

I’ve seen the figure with the double air tanks before but figured that it was a current
HK, figure so I passed it by. Nothing special about it.

Where do you put the tablet? I assume they are fixed figures, meaning they don’t move other than bob up and down?

I will have to ask Andreas.

If you notice some are missing their scuba tanks and there is a hole in the divers back where it fits so I would think the tablet fits in there and then you put the tank back on.On the US Ebay version the hole on divers back looks smaller than the European version or maybe it’s just my New Years Day is a little Molson blurry eh?

Never had them, see few before at different site or shows but barely recall the sizes. I think some HK copies too but not sure. What scale are these!?

They look like figures I had as a kid. The tablets got in the back and you place the tanks over them. I had one on black with reddish-orange tanks and one in orange with black tanks. I think they were in fact, double tanks. Not sure. The figures I remember were about 4 inches, maybe as big as 5.

I got one of these as a kid. It was called Flippy the frog man. It cost about 2.00 back in the 50,s.

Here is some interesting information about the Kelloggs divers. Sometime around 2003 I ran across reproductions of the Kelloggs 3 1/2 inch divers. They came on a blister card marked U.S. Navy Frogmen produced by Dimestore Dreams, a division of Binary Arts. They are the same colors as the originals. On the back of the blister card it reads “Your U.S. Navy Frogmen are exact reproductions of one of the best-selling cereal premiums of all time. Millions of sets were sold when they were introduced in 1955 for only 25 cents and one box top.” My card cost $3.50, I bought two of them, one to play with and one to keep on the card. Here is a fun website about Dimestore Dreams, American Dimestore, and U.S. Dimestore. It has a wealth of information about Banner toys, Thomas Toys, Ideal toys, Marx WWII tin toys in catalog scans, many photographs and many toys memories. http://www.usdimestore.com/
    Enjoy!
