Gulliver Figures and More from Bill Nevins

IMG_0511

Gulliver Figures are just one of the many figures that Bill Nevins found recently. Gulliver is an interesting company from Brazil. They are known for two things, their copies of Atlantic figures Western and World War II and their Marvel and DC Superheroes. The Atlantic copies were a mixture of original and copied figures.  You can go to this site Brinquedos and see many of the interesting figures from Gulliver  and other companies.  The site is in Portuguese so you will need a translator program.

Bill noted that the Gulliver figure seemed smaller than the Atlantic. The figures could have been pantagraphed down.  Also Bill asked if they came painted. I have only seen unpainted figures.

Gulliver did Indians, cowboys, and cowboys. The figures were done in 60mm and 40mm. The figures came with great graphics using images of John Wayne and others.

The company had a very limited market in the United States.  I know they attended one of the New York Toy Fairs in the early 80’s.

IMG_0503Next we have some other finds the Bill Nevins has found. First up is the Auburn Forklift. The forklift is missing its flat plate otherwise it is in excellent shape.

The next photo is of the Palmer Circus figures. What is nice is that the sword swallowers and the knife throwers have the weapons as they are usually missing. The group  is missing clown, strong man and small man.

Bill got some of the Auburn Workers in the rubber.

The last item that Bill Nevins  got were a set of Nativity figures made in Italy. Billy thinks that these figures are by Fontanni. Bill said that he had another set of these figures many years ago but  painted. He picked these figures from a large Christmas collection. It will be interesting  what Bill will find next year.

Again awesome luck and find Bill.
Nativity set .No Fontanini-Depose but Nardi, also copied and done under ROMA, GMS and others. A later set unpainted as this was done in HK too and sold in bag or with manger, missing the shepherd standing figure.
Main differences between all Fontanini and other brands are in joseph and marry poses. Another important detail in Fontanini is that some other poses are depicted in medieval classic late period clothing not ancient middle east clothing.
Gulliver sets were sold painted in early window boxes attached to base card too , unpainted are the standard bag sets.
These figures look very pristine to be original paint; I will think retouched or painted after. May be I’m wrong!!.Yes all were done in smaller than Atlantic scale always, that is why in some collectors are more liked because match the 54 mm scale.
Some sets as German ww2 had some nice new poses out of original Atlantic set.
They did same in cowboys, indians, japanese adding or changing some poses.

You are welcome Admin. Interesting the fact the show up in NYC toy fare in the 80’s-good to know information. That was the hard era for toy soldiers unfortunately I guess. When all action figures invade the market.

Erwin, The 7 th Cavalry figures are mint figures. They came from a boxed set of Fort Apache or something named similarly. The person that I got them from didn’t think that I wanted the fort, so he threw it away, along with the box. He said that it was too big to lug around.
The box was unopened when he got it. So the figures are mint.
The figures themselves remind me of McDonalds or Burger King give away plastic figures. The paint will not come off unless you scratch the figure with a sharp object.
It’s almost “baked” on, like PVC.
Anyone know why the hole in the base of each figure, like MPC?
I’m gonna guess that there were dimples on the fort walls for these guys to fit onto

    Nardi.
Good, thanks for that. Fontenini was the only Italian maker that came to mind. And to me, these look like other Fontenini figures that I have. But I am no expert, so I defer to your knowledge. Very nice sculpts.

I opened up the bag of Cowboys and Indians and took photos. I’ll get them in after Christmas.

Merry Christmas to all…..I hope Santa brings you all toys.

Ok,that is the recast 90’s fort with later version painted figures. Early fort are wood and plastic-mix . So by looking are you figures now I think what you got is the later version painted reissue of original figures. No wonder the paint looks so good. Still hard to see anywhere here in US and value too.

If figures are rubber type or soft PVC that you can bend enough an arm of figure with out brake and paint off, then those are reissues. If you can not bend figure arm easy and fort has wood parts then are original.
Still this fort you see in this link is not longer produced or reissue by active company now doing all other type of toys. According to my last information with them in 2006.
There is a Portuguese bid site that you may list and sale then there if like, I will get you link later ..

Bill .The hole originally was ideal to made then attach to cardboard painted inside window case and one forts were made the figures were displayed and come attached to base cardboard mat of the fort and fort part too. The fort version come in 3 different types one has wood parts mix w plastic as Comansi and Jecsan fort style as far I remember .I recall seen only one myself in person many years ago. Painted loose figures I got them a lot but paint off in many, mine are more soft plastic type versus unpainted Gulliver later done for bags were more hard medium plastic.
Sorry I could see what was in picture well and is impressive they are that nice still, I believe you if you closely- inspect and saw them that paint is original;they are of more value in that way. How much!?;will depend in collectors from ,Portugal ,Spain ,Argentina ,Uruguay and Brazil .
An unknown company to me in Greece rent or bough and release later some of the Gulliver sets in non painted version. Later 80’s I guess!!
Those are the one that got most of Gulliver from early years(the painted version and others).
Merry Christmas to all as well!!

Here two links if scroll down will see original painted Indians Gulliver with paint mate and fading away in this argentine site toy soldier store first link page http://www.redskorpio.com.ar/britpage72en.htm
From same store a Gulliver sold out German set with mix conversion revised poses that varied from Atlantic original set in link bellow
    http://www.redskorpio.com.ar/britpage7e2n.htm
I once had the full set, then resold same cloned Atlantic poses and kept the variation as in German ww2 the figures scale is pretty much same as Atlantic 54 mm.
In Indians and cavalry the figures were down sized to 52/54 mm from the Atlantic 60 mm and some varied a bit.
