Christmas Eve Flea Markets

Our very good friend Les recently took us to a Christmas Market. We returned the favor by him to a couple of flea markets. We tried to do a garage sale but the show did not open until 12:00 so we headed to a flea market/ farmers market. Before we got to the first flea market; we stopped at one of the few five and dime stores left in the area. I got a couple of items, Les found bulbs for his Christmas decorations which he could not find anywhere in Allentown.  We went to the flea market and did the farmers market first and noticed many of the stores in the market had changed. We went to the flea market area and found a few dealers open in the flea market building. One dealer of toys had a few items that I could use for Ebay which made the trip worthwhile.

We headed to the next flea market and got a shock. The inside stores of the farmers market had lots of empty spaces. Stores that had been for years such as the book store were gone.  We did find a collectible shop that was new that I got some Tupperware pieces.  We went to the flea market which is enclosed and found more empty spaces.  We talked to a dealer to see about an old family friend Louie Hedges. Louie had worked with my father at the Bethlehem Steel and they were great friends.  When I first learn to drive I took my parents to this market and my father would sit and talk to his friend.  Louie sold used tools and did a a great business with tools.  The dealer told us Louie had retired.

We walked around the market and found nothing else. On the way home Les and I remarked how many markets we used to do were gone.  One market was in Elizabethtown PA which I found some great items. One item I got was a penny arcade card for Tom Corbett. I showed it to my father the night I got it and as I was showing I discovered that it was signed on the back by Frankie Thomas who played Tom Corbett.

The ride home we stopped at a local diner and shared a meal with our friend before we took him home. Tomorrow and Christmas day we will take it easy.
