Macungie Toy Show Day One

The toy show that is part of the Das Awkscht Fescht in Macungie Pennsylvania is  two day affair for me.  On Friday I have the dealers that set up outside and on Saturday I also have  a building with  dealers inside plus any dealers that set up outside I missed.  At one time the outside dealers were in a field diagonal across the school where the inside dealers set up, but that spot was lost when that land was purchased by a church.  The location for the outside dealers bounced around for a few years until they set up above the school where the inside dealers are. (there three school buildings are set up on a hill and outside dealers are in parking area at one of the schools above where the inside dealers are.) These changes of location reduced the number of dealers attending it is still worthwhile to attend.

The show is a easy drive from my house and from doing this show for more than forty years, I have several ways to get to it. What is nice they have an area now for spectator parking, which is only a short walk from the dealers. I got at the show a little late in morning as most of the dealers had set up outside by the time I got there.

I spotted Tom Stein as I was parking the car. He was carrying under his arm a Marx Disney Davey Crockett at the Alamo playset box.  I asked him how many Alamo playsets did he have? Tom’s reply was he got it because it had a label of an address near where he lives.  I headed from the car to the dealer’s area I soon was looking over the tables of Mike Russo and John Reichl.  John had an interesting item, a carded Plastimarx baby nursery furniture. He was selling it with a tin litho baby nursery building I found a few minor items for resale and Reamsa Marching officer for the collection. Leaving them I started down the hill. One bad thing about the show it is on a hill and  it is fine going down, but can be a problem going up, one collector had just had knee surgery and he seemed to be doing fine.

Heading down the hill I checked some of the other dealers but found nothing of interest. One person had a Flintstone Playset and a number of the dealers had Marx 6 Inch Disney.  I next spotted my very good friend Gerry Watts. He was by himself as our friend Chris Lamont  who works with him had to work.  Gerry had a plethora of plastic in various price ranges.  I looked over his items and I did not see anything that I need.  Gerry and I talked about various things.  This is one of things I like to do at show is talk to people, sometimes that is more important than what you find.

After catching up with Gerry I walked down the hill and went back to Gerry. Tom Stein was there and I asked where Steve Savino of Toy Hunter was? Tom told me that he was across the way.  One thing I would like to clear up: I like Steve Savino and have great respect for him as he is a true toy hunter. It is his boss Jordan Hembrough that I do not like .  I brought Steve up to date on Peter Fritz as he had been misinformed that Peter had passed away by a party.  I also told some of the stories on Peter that are legendary.  We discuss the toy market and he told me that Jordan is trying to get the show revived and reruns have been showing on various channels.

After leaving Steve I said my goodbyes to people as I head up the hill. I left after two hours. The only other thing I bought were two Atlantic Chines Revolution figures.  I was not upset on not getting a lot of items as I have been doing some good buying over last few months.  Also I knew I would be back tomorrow.

I was not upset not finding much on Friday. I should have been over earlier, as people did find a few items like Peco pirates without their weapons I was looking for more unique items that should sell right away. Also I have a bunch of items that need to be process for EBay. I did buy more on Saturday.
