MPC Patrol Boat

At the recent auction I attended they had this MPC Patrol Boat.  The auction had it sitting outside the box of plastic figures.  At one point the auctioneer put the boat up with a car.  The auctioneer said you had choice which meant you just take one or both. The bidding began and soon someone won the bid. The person decided to only take the car so the auctioneer put the boat back up for bid and I  bid and won the boat.

054Going through the bag of figures I won,  I found the mast for the ship. This problem happens many times at an auction. An items parts will be spread out between several lots. Sometimes you can trade with the other party, who won the other lot that has a part you need, other times you may have to be prepared to bid for all the lots.  The mast itself is in very good shape. It has the paper U.S. flag which is usually missing.  Hanging underneath the cross piece is a triangle, which I have no idea what it is.  I do not know it a second one should be hanging down from on the other side.  I have looked at the internet and could not find any examples.

The patrol boat was reused by MPC as the Jungle Queen. Where the mast was they took it out and replaced it with an animal cage.

Maybe the triangle was used to call the crew to supper?

I think that’s a pretty neat find at an auction. The only auctions I’ve ever attended are the Joseph Saine toy soldier auctions, which are fun, but which have about 40 – 50 other experienced toy soldier collectors and dealers participating. Translation: There are few, if any, great bargains slipping through.
