Weather

I was figuring on snow to foul up toy shows in late November and December, but not in October! Early in the week the weather people started to say we would have snow on Saturday.  I thought great just we need as we had a big garage sale at our local fair grounds. I had done very well there in the past. The weather people said the snow would not start until 11:00AM. We decided to do it because the fairground is only 10 blocks from the house and the show opened at 8:00AM. We got up early and were at the show shortly after the doors opened.  I walked around and found a nice selection of items including some Marx Germans in light gray.  Laurie was able to go with me and she was able to find costume jewelry for herself and resale.   I saw several people including Mike Merwine and his wife. Mike does miniature metal buildings of various building around the world.  Another person I saw Steve Yuhas who was one of my ushers at my wedding. Because of his and the other usher’s sizes, the restaurant manager thought they were my bodyguards.

After an hour of shopping Laurie and I left the garage sale.  Laurie went to a nail appointment, while I headed home. Once Laurie came home, we went out for lunch at a local diner. Coming and going we had to dodge around some down branches. We got home and more branches came down.  Our neighbors came by suggest we get off the street which we agreed and moved the cars to a tree free street.  The branches kept coming down but not from our tree as we had earlier in the month had the tree trimmed to meet city regulations.

We thought that we were through the problems when the power went out. We were without power for 6 hours.  We thought we would not have power for two days.  We canceled our plans to do a toy show in Delaware on Sunday because of the road conditions.  I have other shows this week and I rather play it safe than sorry.

I’m OK in Derby, CT but towns “north of the Parkway” are a MESS!!!
Power out from Saturday for maybe a week in a lot of places.
Many towns are “postponing” Halloween from tonight until Saturday 11/5!!!!
Never saw anything like this in October here!!

We have areas still without power and they may not get power until the end of the week. It was an unusual storm. Laurie remembers snow in Octber in the 70’s. New York City has not had snow in October since 1869. Stay warm and safe.
