Bulgarian Tanks

Our very good friend Erwin has questions about the these tanks. The Vietnamese troops  are home made
The armor are 1:32 scale all plastic with friction system made in Bulgaria by company name (W-PS)-inside circle logo below. In late 70 early 80’s !?

I  acquired them from a Bulgarian seller for a very reasonable price and he informed me two more tanks were for sale by another different seller at more higher price on eBay. Because of being sold only by a Bulgarian seller only, I assume  the tanks were made in Bulgaria as the one seller claimed, but something told me are not as Bulgarian  as the tank’s mark do not use Latin alphabet but old Glagolitic-Greek one in letters and code too and the letter W is not in their alphabet
I do have 6 t54/55 tank and 3 PT 76 light amphibian tank. Both used in most by NVC during Vietnam war armor battles as reported by Marine and US armor corps.

Sample of such battles were used are .
Battle of An Lộc
Battle of Ban Houei Sane
Battle of Ben Het
among others .Both armor were used in all middle east conflict till now by all sides

Will like to  know if any body know the exact brand history and were made!?

Thanks ;I was referring to the (Letters original type) not alphabet.(Glagolitic-Greek one in letters ),not to the The Cyrillic script /sɨˈrɪlɪk/ is an alphabetic writing system.
But more interesting to know about the (“toy”) in this forum please!!

  2. erwin says:

I had confirmed that (Pneumant Toys ) with German collectors plus own the few armor from that DDR company too.
They did two version scale of same armor.09.280.18.9 Pneumant DDR Schwimmpanzer PT 76 in box ,that is one solid color piece and friction system too but about 15-16 cm long,(much smaller than these I own that are 24 cm long in body) and the later version much larger motorized control remote 1.20 scale. So unfortunately are not this brand but may be another that so far no German collector has inform me if would had been made in former DDR.

    • erwin says:

Yes but if were copies should had been made of same mold or cloned in detail as per say in size .and they do not match ,neither style in bottom wheels disposition and tracks designed from the PT brand compare to PT I owe. I did confirm with German collectors already that as I first though too as you were former DDR or copies;but they say they are either Bulgarian or from Hungary !? may be!?.So the search continues on.

Well they have Polish decals on them maybe they are Made in Poland??I have a Polish contact who I will contact and see if he has any info and will post if he has any.

  4. Tomasz Karpowicz says:

    Hi everyone,
They were definitely made in Poland, in ’70/’80. The maker was Spojnia, a factory of toys which was owned by the (communistic) government. Famous for their cardboard boxes presenting vehicles never made as toys, Spojnia vehicles were among the popular toys made in Polish People’s Republic. The Spojnia vehicles were exported to other countries of Mid-Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria. PT-76, T-54, ASU-57, Frog Missile Launcher and Grad (multiple rocket launcher on track chassis) made their full list of military vehicles. No Topas, no Skot, no twin AA gun – sorry to say that, I wish they have been made. Greetings and hope to see you in Twickenham, London, UK, on Saturday!

      Hello Tomasz
It is good to hear from you and thank you for the information. Laurie and I will not be at PW this year due to the high airfare. What we used to do for $400.00 or less now cost $1200 to 1500 dollars! The show is always fun and they are doing a special limited edition figure for their 30th anniversary.

      • Tomasz Karpowicz says:

Paul, I understand it very well. For me the journey is not going to be cheap as well. I hope to get the anniversary figure.

          Tomasz
I know it is a big expense, I recommend collectors to go at least once. It is a fun day for us, finding items for the collection and resale, but most of all seeing old and new friends. Having the pub next door allows everyone to take a break and enjoy some friendship over food and drink.

    • Brian Johnson says:

Yes I obtained a PT-76 and the box showed a picture of a box for the Skot that I really had my heart set on finding some till you had article in PW saying it never was produced.I learned some Polish swear words when I saw that,LOL.

  5. erwin says:

Brian, still polish uses other Latin based alphabet too but it does included the three letter depicted in toy and it would made still more sense together with color decals too!!!I think you are getting close!!

  6. erwin says:

THANK YOU!!!! THOMASZ Karpowicz for coming to the rescue. That is great news for me. I appreciate your update and information so needed by me;I also want to thank others involved in finding.
Brian your observation paid off too.!!!

    • erwin says:

thanks Denitz, Now I know where the two tankers I got years ago come from. Definitely a nice original toy I should add. Interesting on cannon too. Wonder what else other than mentioned by Tomasz was done regarding military vehicles/armor else.
My interest come because of rarity in this scale in toys made in late 70 at former east soviet bloc countries and even western few companies that did so few armor in the 1:35-1:32 scale

    • Tomasz Karpowicz says:

The four crewmen are TV series characters from ’60/’70, they were made by PZG. For some reasons they have never made their dog which was even more important to the fabula than the human crew. Their proper tank should be T34-85 as they fought during the mid and final periods WWII (1943-1945). The cannon was also made by PZG, intended to fit the crewmen set. Another item from this small series were a Maxim heavy machine gun a flat piece of terrain to put a lying soldier on (copies of Airfix machine gunners from Russian and/or American infantry but made by PZG). There were also four Polish infantrymen, again a bunch of completely original designs.

      • erwin says:

ok ;so the WW2 cannon and crews are not same company but the one that produce did figures as knights, Indians and Napoleonic right in Poland in the 70’s correct!?

  7. Tomasz Karpowicz says:

To be exact and to speak of Polish characters SPOJNIA is really SPÓJNIA, I wonder (if you see it). SPOJNIA worked in Poznan. ASU-57 should be a very small self-propelled cannon with its open hull for the crew (4 men) in its back. Originally it was an airborne staff, this is why it was really small. The toy is not such an exact copy as they have used only one type of chassis. Too bad but so cheap! And there were crisis, of course, in economy.
The twin AA cannon is ZSU-23-2 or something like that. But the proper letters are ZSU, zet for Zenitnaya (AA in Russian). The bridge tank was never made here or even intended to be.

  8. erwin says:

I will like add that the (ITC) model craft division of IDEAL did some Russian/Soviet era and US armor in 1:32 scale kits(very easy to build) not complicate at all and remote control. Included were the PT76 ,the BTR 50 AMPHIBIAN ARMORED PERSONAL CARRIER ,an amphibian tracked rocket launcher base on same chassis(FROG-3);the US T-92 tank and M113 all come with 2 to 6 figures in solid molded(non kit) poses ,either seated, standing and few in action.
I do have all 5 models but only one partially assembled.
Glencloe in 1988 did reissue using same mold the three Russian models but this time not control remote more easy to cut assemble plastic kit buy figures in most were eliminated or reduced to only one or two.I did build the Glencoe PT 76 and was much easy to do .

  9. erwin says:

And again, only seller from Bulgaria selling it; any how higher what I paid but interesting items. Wondering non from Poland show up?
