Covered Wagon

051

I was doing one of my markets when I spotted this wagon on the top of a box.  I knew the covered wagon looked familiar, but could not place it.  I knew it was not Rel but my mind could not connected who made. A woman was looking at the box and I figured that she was going to buy it as she had pulled a few pieces out of it including the wagon. Then she put the pieces back and left. I looked at the box and asked for the price from the dealer. The price was more than fair  so I purchased  the box. By this time my memory  had kicked in and I knew whose wagon this is, it was the Timmee Covered Wagon. I had gotten a number of the reissues out of Mexico, but until today had never gotten the wagon. The box had the wagon the two boxes for each side but no  figures. There are finds still out there.

  1. This wagon was the first effort at combining the Tim-Mee employees with the Processed Plastic employees. For tax purposes the take over was officially January 1, 1965, but PPCo took over control in the summer of 1964 to get ready for the Christmas season. Back in the day 75-80% of a companies toys were sold between December 1 and the following Easter with Christmas the big toy giving holiday of the year. The wagon was made by the PPCo people and the wagon pioneers by the Tim-Mee people in 1964. It first sold for 98 cents like the large figure header card sets, but eventually due to cost it’s price was raised and it was moved on the jobbers sales list away from the figure sets where it languished and was cancelled.
