Odds and Ends

The West Coaster show will be on this weekend and it will be interesting on what news comes out of the show.  Will TSSD announce what figure sets they are doing? Also what items show up and how are sales? We will have to wait and see.

I will be over at Merchants Square this Saturday for their toy show. This is a nice toy show with lots of surprises.  Then on the 15th, Laurie and I should be at the 19th NJ Toy Soldier and Military Miniature Show & Sale weather permitting. The show goes from 9AM to 3 PM at The NJ Convention &  Expo Center 97 Sunfield Ave, Edison NJ, 08837.

Speaking of weather I am tired of the snow, while my area has not been hit bad with the heavy snows Boston area is getting, the snows we  have been getting are annoying. You get one day a few inches of snow clean it off and then  the next day you get hit with another few inches to clean off and so on. We are suppose to get a period now of at least five days with no snow.  The temperature is to be in the 40’s so I will a few more dealers at one of my flea markets. The dealers that have been setting when there is some decent weather have been disappointing.

mex12I did not realize it until after I sold these two cavemen that one on the right had a cigar in his mouth. I thought that odd until I realized who is Alley Oop from the comic strip of the same name.  We used to have it in our paper but they dropped it years ago.

The Marx 60mm track runner was a figure I had as a child. I do not know how I got it, but I had several other sports figures besides him: polo player, female swimmer and the hockey player.  Track runner did not get much use in my stories except when I made him the Flash for a period of time. I made up my own Justice League of America which was made up of the DC characters and my own character from my stories.  I painted two different ring hand figures as Green Lantern  and Superman, but I left the track runner untouched. I do not remember using him for anything else so he usually ended up at the bottom of the toy box.

Love the cave Dudes, minus the ring, don’t know who sculpted or made them, from a bubble gum machine ? What is the scale ? 1950’S /1960’S ?

The figures were made by Amex the Mexican company that Erwin found. The company did figures that made no rhyme or reason. They copied two of the Marx 60mm space figures and stopped. They did the two cavemen as key rings, which are easy to cut off.

Alley Oop even had his own song, he was one famous caveman. Comic Strip, comic book, cartoon, song, man he was big.

  3. Wayne W says:

That brings back memories. I guess I was two or three years old when the song “Alley Oop” came out. I remember running into some folks from 13th Street in East St Louis (where we lived at the time) some years later who told me they remember me sitting on our front porch singing “Ally Oop – oop-oop-oop-oop” when I was little. Mom told me I knew all the words. Wish I could remember them now.

Ed, you live right next to Rich Egan, see him all the time, and are in regular contact with him. Why aren’t we hearing from him about being in Indy next month? He was there last year, and the year before.

  5. ed borris says:

    Wayne,

Sounds like you know all the important words.

    Don,

Rich is in the South burbs, me and Mike are from the NW burbs, probably a 60 mile trip one way to his neighborhood. Rich generally has trouble getting away during tax season I believe he is a CPA. Mike is closer friends with Rich than I am, I talk to Eric K. much more than I talk to Rich.

    • Don Perkins says:

Yes, I can see you and Rich are not exactly “next door neighbors”. But if Rich lives 60 miles to the south of you and Mike, that sounds to me like he is 60 miles closer to Indy than you are, which sounds like he’s got very little excuse to not be there! Except, of course, that his job makes him very busy right up to April 15. In any event, if you or Mike speak to him, let him know we’d all like to see him there.

    Song by the Hollywood Argyles.

  7. ed borris says:

I just exchanged e-mails with Eric and he said he hoped to attend Friday and Saturday, he doesn’t think he can set up for the show though.

I’m sure Rich would like to attend, but the job may over ride that.

    • Don Perkins says:

Ed, is Eric planning on opening his room for sales, or just planning on being there? If you know. Thanks.

  8. ed borris says:

I assumed he was going to open his room for sales. Just don’t forget to save your money for our room, I’ve got 150 60mm Indians with your name on them.

    • Don Perkins says:

I’ll be there. You can never have too many Marx Mexicans attacking the Alamo, and you can never have too many Marx Indians attacking Fort Apache (or the remnants of Custer’s command at the Little Big Horn). There has never been a time when I couldn’t use a few more of both.

  9. Wayne W says:

Ed, I think you’re right about the song. LOL

  10. ed borris says:

I got Mexicans too. All conversiosn.

  11. Mike Kutnick says:

Rich Egan will be at Indy, he may come in Thursday night but he will be there both for room trading and the show and he might, just might, have some primo MIB Marx playsets and other surprises.

  12. ed borris says:

We just may have some prime stuff too. We have a Heritage Alamo, a Canadian Fort Apache and a Battle of New Orleans, plus all the Paragon and TSSD you could want.

  13. Mike Kutnick says:

We’ll have some surprises too and some BMC playsets, a MIB reissue Marx Castle playset, and others, something for everyone. Stop in our room and say hello.

  14. greg liska says:

He’s back, he’s bad, he’s got new parts with life time guarantees! Welcome back, Mike! No rush buddy, but Ed tells me you got some stuff I need! Talk to me!

  15. ed borris says:

BMC? BMC? Say it isn’t so Joe.

  16. Brian McIver says:

I wonder if anyone has seen the Korean War Chinese troops by CTS on there website.
It looks like they are in winter dress. This is not really my field of interest but they look pretty good & would be an interesting paint subject I think.
