Bat Matterson

I was in Ollie’s  a closeout discount store and found two sets of the television show Bat Matterson starring Gene Barry.  One set was the best of the first season, while the other set was Season two.  Both sets were only $2.99 each.  This was a show I enjoyed as a child and I decided to add to my collection of DVDs. I had seen a few episodes on This TV but it was a hit or miss on catching them.  I remember a friend having the cane and  hitting it against cardboard. It broke the cardboard and we thought it was neat.  Now I have to find time to watch the show.

I am enjoying also watching Wyatt Earp on Cozi TV. This is another show I remember watching as a child. I think I had the Buntline special.  I did not have the Marx character figure until I was an adult.  One of the surprises is that Douglas Fowley, who played Doc Holliday also played other characters on the show. Another reason I enjoy the show is to see stars before they came famous. One episode recently had Touch Connors before he became Mike Connors and Mannix.

The MeTV channel here was airing a “Superman” episode yesterday that had a very young Chuck Conners appearing in it way before he became “Rifleman”.

Ok, here’s a trivia question; Why was Chuck Connors already famous before he even became a TV star?

  3. Tom Black says:

Connors played for the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Dodgers.

  4. Bill Nevins says:

Conners was a first basemen and Brooklyn had Gil Hodges who was an All Star.
Legend has it that Conners knew he could never surplant Hodges so he moved on to acting.

My wife gave me a complete boxed set of “Paladin” for Christmas last year. Now there was a show that you can still watch and enjoy.

Still remember when my Buddy explained to me that “Hey Boy” wasn’t a real Chinese name!

Chuck also played for the Chicago Cubs.
