Reliable of Canada

Our very good friend Brian Johnson found a copy of a Reliable of Canada Toy Catalog on line. It is an interesting piece of history. As you can see most of the toys are ones that were sold in the United States. I wonder if there would be any interest in Auburn in Canadian packaging.

Thanks for the further information. It is interesting to see how the history of Reliable progressed.

  2. Reliable has long frustrated me. Did they get wholesale product from the US companies, rent molds or copy other companies items. My best guess is maybe a little of all three of the options. The Cowboys in the 1953 catalog are the early Lido poses. The GIs are Bergen Toy and Novelty (BETON) poses but the US helmet has been change to a British pot helemt and some have RELIABLE on their backs. The Auburn pose wild animal are marked RELIABLE under their bases. I see vehicles, boats and planes that look to be from; Banner Toys, Bonnie Bilt, Empire Plastics, PYRO Plastics, Thomas Toys, Ideal etc…

I agree there many more questions that need to be answer on Reliable. Is the Reliable/Auburn animals stamped or it is an impression?
