Twenty-Two Years

Today Laurie and I have been wedded twenty-two years. It seems like only yesterday, that we met on a blind date. I knew that she was something different when she did sounds effects during dinner. From that we found that we had mutual friends and had almost met 20 years earlier. I had heard that Red Skelton was in Hess’s Department Store. He was one of my favorite comedians growing up. As I got off the fourth floor escalator I saw Red singing an autograph for a young woman. I found out it was Laurie!

We found that we had much in common and she liked the toys. So on a nice sunny day we got married with some our friends and relatives. It has been an interesting twenty-two years with its  ups and downs Laurie has loved going to shows and meeting people.  Laurie loves that I will eat foods from other countries and I am not just an meat and potato guy.

We will go out to our favorite restaurant and  have enjoyable dinner.

Here’s to twenty-two more fun years.

Congrats to you and Laurie, Paul. I still remember when you announced your wedding on your sales list. I may even still have that list buried somewhere. I hope you guys have many more happy, and healthy years together.

I really liked Red Skelton as well, I used to watch all his specials on tv. He was one of a kind.

we wish you both at least 22 more years to go, still can remember Paul sitting with my parents and me having lunch in Germany, Laurie called and they talked about the wedding dress. (but that’s another story)

Hope to see you both soon

All the best for the future

Greet to hear from you. Laurie and I enjoyed the times we shared a meal with your parents. The time is talking about is when I was over to Germany alone and had gone to Nuremberg for the toy fair. Peter had contacted me some time before my trip so I decided to go up to meet Peter in his hometown of Cologne. I had a great time especially sharing a meal with their parents. His parents were surprise they could understand me as I did not speak German. (I come from area with a German influence)
As to Laurie’s wedding dress, Laurie had picked a wedding dress and while I was away she went for a fitting. The Bridal shop tried to pass off a different dress. I told Laurie to calm down and get a lawyer on it. Laurie got a lawyer and she got the right dress.

Congratulations , I didn’t make it 22 years in my two marriages combined.

  7. Paul Gruendler says:

I well remember your marriage and the huge mistake I made in sending you a thoughtless and inappropriate card to congratulate you two. I have been very sorry for that insult all these years. I finally was diagnosed with PTSD but it seems like it is too late to reconcile with some of my children and their mother as well as some former friends in the hobby. ( * S I G H * )

Stad, I don’t quite know what to think of Paul Gruendler’s post. When I first read it, I thought maybe he was just kidding around, like he often does. But upon second look it seems to be genuinely sincere and contrite, although this seems a somewhat unusual forum to make such a statement. But if an apology for long-ago actions is all he intended, it seems like a gracious public gesture, and I hope it doesn’t just recreate a bad memory for you. He’s usually at OTSN, and I hope to see him there. Both of you at various times are listed as contributors to Playset Magazine, and both of you have many friends and acquaintances throughout the hobby.

Gruendler’s action caused a lot of pain and problems years ago and it is a bad memory. I do not want to discuss the matter as it is in the past. Gruendler should have done a private apology first.
I wish he finds what he is looking for, but I have no interest in him. Laurie and I prefer if we are at show and he is there that he do not bother us.

  9. Don Perkins says:

    I understand your feelings completely.

  10. Ed Borris says:

Seems like there was more animosity in the old days then there is now, I’m sure glad.

  11. Ed Borris says:

I meant to say, I’m glad I got involved in the later friendlier days. Granted there are still some clowns, but for the most part people are nice.

Bill Hamilton (R.I.P.) used to tell me “just because we like kids’ toys doesn’t mean we have to act like we’re 8 years old….”

I agree with Bill, I do not know how many times I thought some of the people I have dealt with would grow up.
Bill Hamilton was one of the good guys, he is missed.

Most the people were nice in the old days, like today it was few people that cause the problem.

And Stad, MANY more happy years and great times to you, the wife and the dogs!
