Mark’s Own Sculptures Work

Our very good friend Mark McNamara  also does his own original sculptures. I will let him explain his work in his own words.

These are some original sculpts I have been working on  One is a French Hussar from Napoleon’s Egyptian Campaign which is being made to be a pair fighting the Mameluke, some workbench photos I have taken in the past showing some projects I have been working on including a Prussian Cuirassier (Franco Prussian War) a Russian Cuirassier from a diorama of the Battle of Austerlitz ( all about 250mm) ,a Dale Earnhardt,a Superman, and Slip Mahoney from the Bowery Boys.

Definitely an awesome job and very detail great work, true artist style; too bad there not 1.32 scale I will have try to buy one. But they are too big size for my collection. Wondering what specific material you are sculpting/carving then out!?

      Hi Erwin,
my goal includes 250 mm (porcelain for certain models) 6 inch and around 57mm (possibly ) I want to investigate possibly having someone copy in different scales using a 3d printer to make Masters and then have someone or myself make Silicon molds,my budget is very limited,
      Thanks for asking
      Mark

      Oh ,
my technique (not sure I would recommend it ) is basically I make skeletons of sculpy and then I build up the figure using auto body putty (red oxide) the more putty I use the longer it takes to dry so that is one reason why I’m slow at it then I carve ,sand or dremel Another reason I’m slow is I end up getting bored working on the same one and I can get what I call artistic blindness( you work on something too long you have a hard time recognizing what’s right and wrong with the model ) so I put it away for a month,6 months or a few years then I come back to it with a fresh look ,I take photos and study the photos and mark on the photos what corrections I think are needed the photos seem to help me be more objective about what I’m working on such as looking at the photos above I can see a lot things I need to work on,
      Thanks again for asking,Mark

Thank you for explaining your sculpting process. Creating anything from scratch like that is time consuming and if you are a perfectionist it takes longer still to get it just right.
I have made many silicone rubber molds and could help you with that process. Just ask Stad for my e-mail.

  2. When I read Mark’s sculptures, I thought you meant MARX!

Any plans to do 1/32 scale sets?

  4. Mark says:

    Thanks for asking Tom
I hate to admit it but I’m very slow at sculpting but my goal is to have some of my larger sculptures done in porcelain at about 250mm then the rest in 6 inch and also in 57mm not sure on that scale but I thought they might sort of bridge the gap between 60mm and 54mm.

No pic of the Vietnam figures; they keep talking and wasting lines. I prefer to show a pic before write too much about..The same for others companies that say a lot and show one figure sample at a time…you can do one announce, but next time show what you can/will have…We already know they are being done in a limit run(hope price range is good)

  8. Ed Borris says:

I’ve seen one prototype, held it in my hot little hand. Was a nice sculpt of Viet Cong running with an RPG. He was a harder plastic, no telling what the final product will be, probably something similar though. I hear they are being made entirely in the US.
