Odds and Ends

When I picked up the True Legends at Toys R Us I decided to see what else they had. I found that Mega Blocks has a series Call to Duty that might be of interest for collectors. Also Mega Blocks has a zombie farm house.  Hasbro has set of Guardians of the Galway in small scale, which I can not find on Toys R Us web site or Amazon. There is  a PVC set from the Simpsons that are of various guest stars, you might find usable. Also Toy R US carries an extensive line of Schleich figures.

The San Diego Comic Con has pass with the most interesting item was a photo of  Wonder Woman from the Batman vs. Superman movie. There had been speculation how the costume would look, the answer is not bad. They have gotten away from the bathing suit from the comics and done a Xena dress, which is short skirt . I like as I feel it is more realistic.

Another aspect of the San Diego Comic Con is the exclusives offered by various toy companies One company called Skybound did two different Walking Dead two figure packs, one has Carl Grimes with a female zombie and Negan and zombie. The figures are  powder blue and 2 inches tall. The two sets are up on EBay right now for $28.00 each or best offer.

Staying with Walking Dead, I read recently that Norman Reedus did the last Chiller show in April.  He had been at Chiller two years ago and was charging $20.00 for his autograph  Now that he is on Walking Dead, his autograph price has risen to $40.00 and $75.00 for a photo opportunity. The price for his autograph will go higher in the near future as AMC has signed an exclusive with Wizard World that the people from walking Dead will only do their shows.

We have not talked much lately about Jordan Hembrough of Toy Hunter as there has not been much news with the show on hiatus. Jordan did a guest appearance at the Las Vegas Comic Con which went well, but passed on doing San Diego Comic Con due to an awesome project he was working on.  I recently met a collector from his area who commented to me that he had never seen Jordan at any toy show or flea market in his area. I replied that he is not the only person to say that.  This person also said he offered his 12 inch GI Joe collection for Toy Hunter to pick, but they decline as they wanted only  70’s toys and later.

The boys are doing good. Percy had to have an abscess tooth removed last week and also a tumor on his chest.  The tumor was not cancerous and he is recovered very well from his surgery. his brothers were jealous that Percy was on soft food after his surgery, that we let them lick the container.  I hope to get new pictures done of them soon.

I am doing well, my weight is down 95 pounds since going into the hospital. I am trying to get to the gym at least twice a week, but it is hard with the other things I have to do. I still have the bike which I am riding for 18 minutes.  I am now doing various machines  to work on various parts of the body.  I am hoping to get my weight down to 225 by the end of the year.  Bill Nevins sent me a picture from the Marx Meet that was held in May of 1986. I could not believe how heavy I looked. I believe I am down to my college weight.

One thing that has changed over the years is the food I eat.  I have  reduced the salt intake as it one way we  retain water in our body. I am amazed how much salt is in one sandwich at  fast food places, it is either close to or over the minimum daily salt requirements. The only time I get more salt than I like is when we go out to eat I have long preferred diners or restaurants over fast food due to the quality food you get at and at reasonable prices.

How has your summer been for hunting for toys or toys soldiers? My summer been harder finding things, I still have found items, but it is not like last years. I have noticed the number of dealers have been down at the markets.  I have heard from other people  that their markets have been down as well. Laurie and I did a market last Tuesday in the Lancaster area and found it very disappointing. the only old figure I saw was a Marx Presidio hat Mexican running with a rifle with some paint on him. He was in a case so I did not ask the price.

Finally CS Asko asked me about a EBay listing. A party had a large figure up stating it was Marx Ben Hur.  I remember seeing the listing and recognized it from being from a historical set that was put out years ago. the company did two series one historical such as Civil War and Alamo. The other was the religious figures. I remember the boxes were red and blue, but I can not remember the name of the company or what the series were called. Can you help?

I heard but have not seen that someone was selling a display board of Captain Gallant with brown Arabs for $25,000.00. I did see that someone has a buy it now for 22 Timmee Russians ( 16 red 6 olive green) with header bag for $800.00. ( the bag is present with the flag, but the figures are not in the bag, the header card is also present)

I noticed that guy as well. I guess people put that type of price up just to hope someone will pay it, usually they have a… or best offer. A Gunsmoke set for a little over a grand. It had lots of damaged pieces. It was also missing Doc. Matt’s gun looked funny to me, and Chester’s rifle also looked mangled, so I emailed the guy, to clarify the pictures, or for him to let me know their condition. He said both figures were damaged. The price was pretty low at that time.

I did not bid on it. I was surprised the set went for over a grand in that condition. I also saw the Richard Green figures mixed in with a bunch of junk figures, and some dinosaurs. I emailed that guy to clarify the pictures as well. He said they looked good, but were already packed for shipping. I did not bid on them, it went for under 200 bucks, I thought it was kind of high.

I know those figures weren’t that great. It looked like the top of Robin’s bow string was missing, that might be ok, but it also looked like the tip of the arrow from the bow forward was missing. It was very hard to tell for sure on the guy’s pictures though, however him saying they looked good, and not sending me better pictures, lost him a potential bidder.

I’ve made some good deals on ebay, I’ve also ran into some bad ones as well. I don’t know much about the Ben Hur figures, I know they made some of the Romans in 6 inch, but I never knew they did Ben Hur in that scale.

  3. The guy with Captain Gallant demo always has high prices. I don’t think he cares if he sells anything or not. Greg Liska is the guy selling the Tim-Mee Russians. He is thinning his collection somewhat. I think the Zorro figure is from the recent Bandaras movies and made in South America. Thanks to plastic toy animal expert James Hayes I finally got the later small painted Marx animals sorted out. There were two series, the first series made in 1962/63 was made in Hong Kong and has 23 animals and a cage. The second series was made 1967-69 ( some were used in the 1967 Daktari playset) was made in both Hong Kong and Taiwan and has 24 animals. 1-23 are the same animal in b0th series but the sculpting is different on many of them. The 24th in the second series is a hippo.

    Stad,
The Guardians of the Galaxy 1/32 scale are at Target. I bought the 2 figure pack with the bald strongman with tattoos (I forget their names) if time permits he could be converted into a Barbarian.

I’m having prtyy good luck at a local flea market. Found a bag of figures for a buck. the seller said there were mostly odds and ends in there of common figures. He was right…except for the four unbroken hard plastic Archer Spacemen and the the two unbroken Hubley farm wagons, everything else was common Lido and Tim Mee type figures. But for a dollar, can’t complain. Last week found two Sgt Rock comics for fifty cents each and eight Marx figures and horses for twenty five cents each. And Ed and I just got a good deal on a whole bunch of those desirable red brown Marx Indians with horses and teepees on Ebay with a ” buy it now”.
Got to keep looking, the stufff is out there, it’s just alittle bit harder to find.

Glad to hear of your good luck. It is a little tougher over here with competition, but you never know what you will stumble into,
