Auburn Armored Car

One of my favorite vehicles from my childhood was the Auburn armored car.  It was the only item  from Auburn  that I had as a child.  Auburn made it in rubber and soft plastic.  We know the figure molds of the Auburn army ended up in Mexico, but do not know if the armored car mold still exists.

I have question for the armor experts, is the Auburn armor car based on a real vehicle or not.  Let us know..

  1. Don Perkins says:

Yes, it was. But its correct designation would not be an “armored car”, but rather it would be a “Half-track Armored Personnel Carrier”. Specifically, the model used by Auburn would be the “M3 Half-Track Armored Personnel Carrier”, used by the U.S. Army and British in WWII and on into the Cold War. Some 43,000 were produced, according to Wikapedia. It’s official designation would have been “Carrier, Personnel Half-Track M3”. Google any of these titles and you will see photos of the real WWII vehicle that look just like your favorite rubber Auburn version. If I actually knew how to post the link, I would, but I have only mastered going to links so far, not actually posting them.
