Toy Hunter $25,000 Toys Ahoy

The episode opens up Jordan and Steve getting ready for the New York Comic Con. Jordan has decided to push Star Wars items. Steve has a contact in Scottsdale Arizona that has a lot of Star Wars items for sale.  Jordan and Steve met with Ann. Steve first buys Jerry Mahoney ventriloquist doll in box for $150.00 and Steve feels he can sell the doll for $225.00.  Checking EBay I found one for sale in the same condition for $250.00. Steve also finds a Ronald  Mac Donald doll in the box which he buys for $30.00. Looking at EBay I found one up for bid and was at $22.50 at the time  I looked. Jordan finds the Star Wars items he is looking for  including not one but two complete sets of the Star Wars 12 backs. The twelve backs are the first Star Wars action figures with the back of the card.  Ann offers the lot of  Star Wars Figures for $15,000.00. ( In a tweet Jordan the price was for $15,000.00.  Jordan also stated in another tweet that they had to stop filming as it was most he had spent.) The amount for the 130 Star War pieces was no brainer especially with Jordan feeling he could sell each set of 12 back for $20,000.00 each.  This was a transaction that dealers dream about, the only thing would stop the dealer would be not having the money.

Jordan also goes to Boca Raton Florida to meet with Greg for more Star Wars. The first item Jordan buys B Wing Fighter mint in the box for $80.00. Looking at EBay I found one example  for $157.00.  Next Jordan buys both Master Replicas AT-AT Imperial Walker and Snow Speeder for 2100.00 The imperial Walker has shown up on EBay for $3599,99  and the Snow Speeder has prices between 1999.99 to 2999.00.

The last section is at the New York Comic Con. Beside having Steve and David, Jordan has along fan favorite  young dealer Travis. One setback they find the plastic case of the AT-AT Imperial Walker damaged and will not be able to sell it. While they are selling items they have not sold a set of 12 back Star Wars to make Jordan’s goal of $45,000.00 (Jordan has sold only $25,000.00 of his goal ). Jordan sends out his team to check with other dealers  to see if they have anyone that. One of the dealers has a contact named Ray who is looking for these figures.  Jordan and Travis go to Rhode Island to meet with Ray. Ray is impressed but wants a breakdown.  Jordan tells Ray that he can sell the Chewbacca for $6,000.00 and C3PO for $2500.00.  Ray turns to Travis and ask if  he would buy the figures.  Travis replies with out hesitation that he would and Ray buys the figures.

This episode shows  the problem of getting too greedy. Jordan thought he could make $45,000.00 because he got a score.  Reality is these heavy price items would only be only at a show if you did not have a client for them. The 12 Back Star Wars  cards have been  getting silly money.   The other thing I like is how Travis has grown as a dealer. I was very impressed in how Travis answered Ray’s question. I see that Travis will be a good dealer.

I’m so happy to see Travis back this season. I was worried he wouldn’t return after viewing the first couple of episodes. I think he is the greatest part of the show adding a ton of excitement. Seeing young people involved in toy collecting is such a relief, it proves to me the hobby won’t end. I hope to see Travis more and develop throughout this season. I think he is an asset Jordan should really bank on in terms of seeing the show succeed and move on through future seasons.

      Hi Jon
As I noted Travis has developed from where we first saw him. I agree that we need young blood in our hobbies, I have seen too many hobbies wither and die because of the lack of young blood. I hope to see him in other episodes, but the problem is it Jordan’s show.
I have tweeted Travis telling I was impressed in how he handle himself on that episode.

That is true it is Jordan’s show and I would imagine that whatever he says goes in terms of how they make the show. I just hope he sees the potential in Travis like we do. I’ve been collecting toys for over 30 years and my kids have absolutely zero interest in anything I own, its when other kids see a young man like Travis involved with toys it becomes a cool thing.

I would agree its Jordan’s show . Travis is good for the youth to get interested in a hobby over video games.

Paul – in this weeks Toy Hunter, 3/5/14, client of the week Taboo has a set of what looks like mid light blue plastic “Hip Hop”, or street dancers (what ever you kids are calling them these days) displayed along the top of his sound mixer. Can you tell me anything about them ? They remind me of those skate boarder and surfer figures. I could not make out much detail, just a general impression about them. chris

O.K., Found them, All City Breakers Mini Series from Kidrobot, very much like the surfers, skateboarder figures. See them from, .49 – $7.99 a pack (2 figures and boom box) Bag of 20 (3 boom boxes) $4.99 – $29.99 . Yeah, wide range. All over the net, and ebay. Could be useful.
