Toy Hunter Halloween Special

Jordan needs to find items for his booth at HorrorHound and also find unique items for Kirk Hammett. the lead guitarist of Metallica. Jordan has been given Kirk by his friend Mark Huckabone as Mark does not have time to look for items for Kirk. Jordan goes with Steve Savino to Rob in Connecticut looking for items. Jordan and Steve go into cubby holes of Rob’s home and find various items. Jordan finds Blurp Balls. These 1991 toys by ERTL shoot  items from their mouths. Jordan paid $100.00 and planned to sell them for $175.00 Checking EBay, ( I will check EBay to see if  anyone else is selling  the same item for a comparison.) I found  that the Blurp Balls were selling between $31.00 to $46.00.  Steve found a Ghostbuster Telephone which they bought for $75.0o and plan to sell for $150.00.  Looking at EBay I found no Ghostbusters telephone for sale. Next Jordan  found a lot of Supernatural figures by Tonka. What made these toys interested they had a hologram. Jordan paid for the load $325.00 and planned to sell for $650.00 The individual card figures go as high $30.00, Tomb of Doom had prices of between 200.00 and $300.00. I could not find any price for Lion Wings except a loose one for $35.00.

Next Jordan and Steve go meet Frank of Salem Toy Museum. Frank set up a 2000 square foot museum of toys in Salem, Massachusetts. The first thing Jordan finds is sealed 1972 Ouija board by Parker Brothers, which Jordan buys for $50.00 and plans to sell for $100.00. On EBay, there are Ouija board opened selling between 25.00 and $50.00. There is one  international seller selling a sealed  Ouija board for $121.40. Next Jordan  buys to two LJN Gremlins for $20.00 and plans to sell them for $45.00. Looking at EBay I found Stripe on the card for $21.99.  Lastly Jordan finds a Monster Bike Buddy in the box.  Monster Bike Buddy is the head of one of the Universal monsters that you attach to a bike. Jordan thinks he has an item for Kirk until Steve quickly tells Jordan that the item is a repro.  If  it was real it would  sell for in that condition for $3500.00! No example could be found on EBay. On the internet I found two examples without boxes for $650.00 and $750.00. If you are interested in a description of  the repro of Monster Bike Buddy go to  Universal Monster Army.

Jordan heads to Cincinnati for HorrorHound without Steve. Since he is there a few days before the show, Jordan has two stops to buy more items for HorrorHound and possible Kirk Hammett.  Jordan’s first stop is Dent Schoolhouse a haunted house attraction in Dent, Ohio. Josh takes Jordan into their trailers  and Jordan finds two Don Post Masks. the first is a Frankenstein mask from 1980 which he feels he can sell to Kirk Hammett, Jordan pays $100.00 and sell for $200.00.  Then Jordan finds a Don Post Skull mask  for $240.00 and plans to sell for $500.00. Lastly Jordan finds a Munsters’ lunch box with thermos bottle, which Jordan pays $350.00 and plans to sell at HorrorHound for $650.00. Checking EBay I found one example in poorer condition and no thermos for $129.00

Jordan goes to his last stop Dennis, a collector of movies posters and other movie items.  At Dennis’ place, Jordan finds a poster for Horror Maniacs and Stranglers Morgue plus lobby cards for the two movies.  The two movies starred a British Actor Tod Slaughter  popular in the 30’s and 40’s. Jordan pays  $100.00 and planes to resale them to Kirk Hammett for $200.00. Checking EBay I found the same poster for $72.99 and a larger different version for $120.00.  Next Jordan finds some V Puzzles and action figure still in the box, which he pays $100.00 and will sell for $200.00.  On the puzzles one example was on EBay for $35.00.  Lastly Dennis brings out an one sheet salesman ad for the Pez Monsters. This is an item only a salesman would have to show the new items  to stores and it is in excellent condition.  Jordan pays $600.00 and plans to sell it for $1200.00.

We now go to HorrorHound convention in Cincinnati, Jordan has a goal of $25,000.00. Jordan also figures he is going to find the item he needs for Kirk Hammett.  This section shows Jordan selling to various people the items we have seen on the show. Butch Patrick comes up and see the Munsters Lunch Box, but will not pay the price. Jordan reaches his goal, but can’t find a toy for Kirk so he calls a contact Len, who Jordan calls “The Pop Culture Fanatic”  Len  has a very interesting and diverse collection and after a few suggestions, has the item that Jordan needs. Jordan has Len ship the item out.

The last part has Jordan and Mark Huckabone got to Kirk Hammet’s house to show him the items Jordan found.  After looking Kirk’s amazing collection, Jordan shows the items that he has for Kirk. The toy he has for Kirk is a AHI Mummy mint on the card, which he sells for $1200.00. (Jordan paid $800.00.)  Jordan sells the three items to Kirk for $1600.00. Jordan he has added a new client to his list.

Overall the Halloween episode was  better than most episodes of Toy Hunter. Here we had Jordan doing his home work on the wants of his customer unlike the Gene Simmons episode. What helped Jordan is Kirk Hammett had done a book on his collection that Jordan could use as a reference.  Prices that Jordan paid and sold were by in large on the mark. One exception that sticks out is the Ouija Board he bought.  I am amazed on prices for both the AHI Mummy and Pez salesman sheet. I did not like the way he handle the Pez sheet as it could have been torn.  The AHI Mummy is the rack toy version, they also did action figures.  The goof is which I mention in a comment, when doing the Universal  Monsters in photos they showed they included Lon Chaney as a vampire from London  After Midnight which is a MGM film not Universal.

  1. I have decided to restrict my monster collecting to stuff made before 1963. Smaller universe!
